I have seen that kind of deformations like that a few times. I always assumed it was a manufacturing defect. I am surprised I don't see more of it. the socal sun eats these valves up.

I'll be dipped! Is it just the sun light or heat from the sun light that deforms them? Also, I'm in Michigan so my valves are in ground but what about that valve set up that is above ground just outside my house that hooks up to my main? Should I cover it up even though it's all brass I believe?

MichiganWildcat most definitely cover it up. It’s a combo of hot plastic under high pressure. Down in the ground valves are probably safe.
