Hi Vishki, just want to say thanks. 9 years later and this video is still very helpful. I ended up purchasing a 12 year old Thar Crde which gave me a lot of problems but also a lot of learning on how to troubleshoot and fix cars. Thanks a bunch and cheers! Ps- For anyone else reading this: I used 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the maf sensor and a paintbrush dipped in the alcohol to clean out the string. Would also like to note that the inlet where the sensor goes in can also get pretty grimy so do also clean that out if the check engine light still blinks after cleaning out the sensor.
We learn new things everyday, don't we? Ladder on frame SUV's are referred as Trucks. I love calling it a Truck than anything else. Yes, it's a truck and I don't have two thoughts about that. Kind of indestructible, old school mechanicals, always ready to go anywhere, ladder frame, train like torque, right amount of crudeness, there are/were only a few SUV's that fit this word. BTW, my Truck is going to be fifteen this month, multiple vehicles shared the garage over years, but this has been a constant member.
This is helpful, does your engine stop on disconnecting sensor? I have scorpio getaway 2.6. Somebody says if engine does not stop then u need to replace your sensor.
I didn't dare check that though I wanted to see what happens if I start it without the sensor. Are you facing any issues? I think these sensors are pretty robust and last very long.
thanks had simillar issue . the engine check light blinking when connected to OBD its showing mass air flow sensor malfunction. i will try your method mechenic already quoted 3000rs for sensor change, hop[e your method work. liked
I didn't have check engine light. My issue was low power with no errors. But no harm in cleaning the sensor, so give it a try, may be it throws an error if it is too dirty and isn't measuring any air. Also check for corrosion at the connectors.
Sir I own Scorpio 2.2 vlx 2008..From last 1 month I having problem with my engine temperature sensor...It says temperature is high...So I replaced it....Even after doing replacement nothing gets better (niddle of the temperature remains in center)
I'm not an expert. Just an end user like you. Why did you change temp sensor(is it just cos it's showing high temp)? Needle in the centre is high, mine always stays around 2 mm lower. Do you sense engine bay to be hotter than normal(boiling coolant or something?) (never open radiator while hot). How is the AC performance? If the engine is hot, this is what comes to my mind, again I'm not an expert. Try and check the following starting with the easiest/simplest. One of the following may be reasons if engine start/performance etc are all normal. 1. Coolant low 2. Coolant was never changed and deteriorated. Change coolant. Before changing, flush with distilled water if possible. 3. Radiator blocked inside, needs to be cleaned inside. 4. Radiator is clogged outside. Get the front bumper removed and get it cleaned properly. Radiator may not work well even if the AC condenser is clogged in which case AC performance also drops. I cleaned my AC condenser, there is a video in my channel. 5. Air pockets in engine reducing coolant efficiency. 6. Water pump is not working properly. 7. Viscous fan not working properly.
Why do you want to buy a Air Mass sensor? They rarely go wrong. You may not find it online. Unless you find it on Amazon and fulfilled by Amazon, I do not suggest buy it online. Try for it offline. Most bigger spare parts stores should be able to arrange it. You can try at Bosch authorized service centres, even if they don't have stock, they will arrange it from company.
@@rudrapatil8338 Any electronic cleaner/circuit board cleaner which both leaves no residue after evaporation, and evaporates fast, is suitable. You don't need CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner if you can't find it or afford to have it shipped.
Sir I am using my vehicle disconnected with d sensor and d power I get is like a new car. I changed d sensor but d result is not good wat problem can I suffer I own a Scorpio crde
I have no idea what problems arise by disconnecting MAF, May be excessive fuel consumption and pollution. As the ECU does not know how much air is entering, the fuel supply may not be correct. Try cleaning the MAF sensor, most of the time it solves the the low pickup issues. BTW, i'm not an expert, I just did this on my car.
Hi sir .video is best informative but to buy crc airflow censor its cost showing in Amazon is 3045 rs .it is better to buy new censor to my car ..instead of buying this cleaner with high cost
Hi, The first time I cleaned, I didn't have CRC cleaner and I just cleaned it with household kerosene. Kerosene worked perfectly fine with no bad effects. Bought the CRC cleaner anyway later for peace of mind. If you are planning to buy a new one anyway, there is no harm trying to clean the existing one with kerosene/petrol/diesel or such. I'm sure kerosene will work perfectly.
No. As far as I know WD40 has a little oil content and leaves a layer of oil on the sensor wires, this layer may prevent the MAF sensor from working correctly. Do check if anyone has used WD40 successfully. I cleaned the MAF sensor twice so far. First time I didn't had the cleaner, so I used a few drops of kerosene and artists brush to clean. This is not recommended but thats what I did since I had no other option.
Absolutely no. The basic WD40 is formulated with long chain hydrocarbons (and the Kerosene that VISHKI used is a mixture of long chain hydrocarbons, so don't use it) which have a high boiling point, so a residue is left behind after evaporation. This will coat the MAF sensing element and damage it. Only use sprays which leave absolutely no residue behind and have a fast evaporation rate. Look for circuit board cleaning sprays. I used both "WD40 Specialist Fast Drying Contact Cleaner" and "CRC Contact Cleaner" (these products are found in Europe by the way; i'm listing them so you can have a look at their SDSs to learn the composition of a product suitable for MAF cleaning) on my MAF sensor, which has basically the same probe shown in the video, and it's still operational. These sprays evaporate fast and leave no residue. I've still let my MAF dry up for about 20 minutes before fitting it back though.

Well done. Will immediately do it for my xylo which has done over 1 L and has thr sane issue.
Thanks for the great video will this help if the maf sensor have like a knock on it?

Thanks . Very informative video. The Kyron has the same sensor.
Thankyou. Yes, when I searched for the part number I realized many other vehicles are using the same.
