Watching you and Joel, I had to get an E89 of my own. I love it. I think it will always be the one that got away for you. Thanks for inspiring me to get my SDrive35i.
I drove a 2012 sDrive28i for a few years. Yeah, it was a bit too flashy at times, especially living in a working class town with bad roads, the sound system sucked, it was a pain getting in and out of, most of the time a Civic is fine for most things. But once in a while, on a warm summer night, I want to put the top down and go blasting down the highway with your favorite songs, sometimes I miss it.
I'd take the BMW Z4 35IS over a Boxster any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Plus my Z4 has the steering wheel on the right side of the car. Where as your boxster has the wheel on the wrong side of the car.
I kind of understand how you feel, I had a Z4 23i and sold it because I couldn't stand how rattly it was, especially the roof. I took it on a big Scottish road trip soon after purchasing it which was somewhat dampened by my frustrations with the rattling noises with the roof up (which was quite a lot considering we were in Scotland!). I felt quite bitter at the car as I felt it hadn't lived up to expectations on my big roadtrip. I also found it incredibly loud on the motorway, possibly due to the runflats, and even worry it may have contributed to some hearing damage I have (though I have other ear conditions also so hard to tell). Basically, I loved the car and it was a big dream and milestone to buy and own, so now I both do and don't regret selling it - it wasn't the car I wanted it to be, which was an all-rounder comfortable sports coupe, but when the roof was down on a twisty back road, well, nothing I've driven comes close really. I have a VW Scirocco now which is actually a bit quicker and handles superbly, but the sound of the I6 and the looks of the Z4 inside and out were just fabulous. It feels like the one that got away to me too!
Defo miss the 35is content! It swayed me to buy my 35i and i havent looked back since. Defo a hidden Gem in the motoring world. Soo many people dont realise you bascally have an M1 with a folding roof 😂. Bring back the 35is!!!
@@law-us4tm What do you use to keep the rubber seals well conditioned? I just bought a 2016 sapphire-black 28i m-sport with red leather interior. It is SOOO GORGEOUS, and the only question for me is how to keep the seals in perfect condition.
Fine work gentlemen! Best Car I've ever owned hands down. Its a friggin masterpiece of German engineering, & believe it or not one of the most reliable cars BMW has ever produced. Worth every penny
I have owned a E46 and currently own a E92. Neither are powerhouses. I am 50 years old I am not sure I could trust myself with a Z4 35is. I would get in trouble. :p
We all have that one car that got away.. For me it was an Alfa Romeo 159SW 1750TBi Ti in white. Looked the absolute business, rode like the ultimate cruiser and with Italian styling; how could you go wrong. Had a spill of bad luck with the fuel pump leaking + gearbox rebuild (gotta love the M32 GM box) in just a few weeks time and moved it on. Still to this day miss that car
I kinda agree with lots of your points. I had an E85 3.0i S until 6 months ago, when I wanted to upgrade to a 987 Boxster. But to be honest that car simply did not feel TRIPLE the price of my E85 so I didnt go for it. Still sold the Z and got a nice '08 TTS as an inbetween car. Now I'm looking at E89 35 IS's as well, which after having seen a few does make more sense for the money. The Porsche will come, but that might be not earlier than 981 models drop a bit in price.
Exactly I think they are great value for money, even better than a boxster... I am not saying they are better cars , just value pro rata. I think Joel is about to make a similar course of action sometime in the not to distant future.... :-( hope his does not end the same way... mine is a 35is also, red with black top...
@@be1441 Do you still miss the Z4, Ben? If so, the feeling will probably stay with you all of your life and the only remedy for that is just to buy another one. Love is strange, and you will never be really happy again until you and a great Z4 are reunited again.
Ok... You will never get over it. When I was 18 years old (I am 50 now) I had a 1987 Pontiac Fiero. Which was total junk. I crashed it racing my brother into a telephone pole at 104 MPH and broke 29 bones. YES, 29 bones, had 9 surgeries because of it. I think it had like 125hp or something like that. But I won't lie I saw a 1987 Fiero GT in mint condition at a neighbors house forsale 2 summers ago. I looked at that car 4 times. I should have got it. Just sometimes a car get's you forever... Just wait a few years or maybe like 10 years and get the exact same car. It will be great! Granted there will probably be Z4's with 800hp then but those will never be that IS.
@@be1441 Was a cool car. I used to cruise the beach with it. The girls loved it! My friends said it was a "Girls car" to give me crap. Wait 10 years with the IS and get another one and really do it up. I am not gonna do that with the Fiero but I may follow in your footsteps with the Boxster. Of which my friends say is a "Girls Porsche" too. But ya know guys that think a Chevy Pickup is the dream vehicle its hard to reason with them. Car's are for you not anyone else.
I can’t decide which Convertible one to buy a BMW 2011 Z4 35is 335HP Vs Nissan 2011 370Z 332HP? Which one of the two is more reliable and cheaper on repairs?
Ben, how much would you recommend the boxster s? Currently have a 140i and similarly to you with the z4 want something cheaper and only use on the weekend. Seriously looking into these cars. M140i is up for sale for anyone looking😂
Z4 was just amazing. However Porsche is a gem of a car, it’s just missing couple of tech extras in comparison with z4 but both great cars👌. Keep recording and posting this stuff mate!
Ben I normally like your vids, but I'm afraid that was quite a boring vid,. Sorry mate and I know a few minions will prob slate me for my comments, but hey ho. Get back to the good ones mate. Ps come on mate get that exhaust louder
I remember how exciting it was when you first got that car! Still look back fondly on the road trip despite all the issues!
The roadtrip was mega. I look past the issues and focus on the highs

Just about to buy a Z4 30i E89 this week, super excited, gorgeous machine!
All car guys have a" one that got away" story, mine was a Datsun 240z, love that boxster..cheers from new Zealand
Same here mate, 1972 240z fully restored in 3 years, sold it 1 year after (long story) Anyway still miss that car, 6 years later.

Me too definitely.....
Is it reliable?how many miles ?
No problems at all. 90k + miles. Keep it well serviced. Use good oil and keep ontop of your rubber seals for the roof and your onto a winner

Hello, Ben
Where could I purchase a front splitter like yours?
Of course you miss it. Greetings from my 2010 Z4 35i in Venice, CA ...
But it's never too late, just get a new one mate.

Ben Rayne Or just find another one to buy 😇
Absolutely. Ben and a great Z4 belong together.
Your previous Z4 was epic. Hands down it was nicer than the Boxster but cars do come and go.
Where did you get your front splitter for the z4 ?
How come you didnt have to have a front number plate?

I wouldnt get a convertible 370z best go with the 35is 😛
I looked at both cars as well but I think the design of the E89 both in and outside is just so much more beautiful.

Did face any problems?
Z4 is the best...
I blew up the engine on a z3 and felt the same way when I got rid of it.

I also think E89 design is better than 986 and 987 boxsters.
hey Ben, how many miles did your z4 have when you bought it. im looking at a 2011 now.
