Nice I did the same solenoid mod to mine. Using two car batteries. It worked great but eventually the motor came apart inside. Im sad because a new motor is expensive so iv just been keeping a lookout for one. It was nice to cruise around on that thing. I wanted to find one of those vespa style scoots to put a gas motor in but couldnt so i built a vespa from scratch. good fun
I've seen some of these motors fairly cheap on some websites, but I'd really like to get my hands on the bigger 500w motor thats rated at 36 volts, those are pushing the Crazy Cart XL's up to 17 mph in the stock configuration which would be fun, especially to over volt! haha I started another build for the OMB 2017 build off using this scooter, going to be making my own little "crazy cart" They look like a ton of fun!
I modded mine to 48v with an 1800 watt motor. It trucks but the brake is terrible. Have you upgraded it? I have looked for a rear disc solution with no luck. Thinking about drilling a hole in the front forks and adding a front bike brake.
Dude! Is the electric motor brushless. Excuse an old Shade Tree Mechanic. LoL! I'm thinking to replace bushings and brushes because of wear on the motor. Sounds rough to me. Want to make a Christmas present possibly.
The stock motor in these is a brushed type motor, i just checked pricing on them and thy are around $36 for a new one (24v 250w), might be worth just buying a new one? What are you planning on doing with it?
I wouldnt recommend this for daily use necessarily, this set up with this much voltage will most likely burn up the motor under regular use. But i more than doubled the speed, but running the batteries in series as I did (higher voltage) will not increase the capacity or range. If you want more range, you would wire the batteries in parallel (higher amp hours) but will not give you more speed.
That was pretty funny when the solenoid welded itself closed! I wasn’t expecting that to happen inside the garage. How long did the motor last on 36 volts?
I have the same one for my daughter I can feel the motor energy going to it but the wheel does not roll the fuse is not burnt out and none of the connections looks fused. Please help
Do you have to charge for 12 hours in a row? I bought one used yesterday and charged if for 9 hours, but I was weary of leaving it on charge overnight. Do I need to charge for another 12 hours or just another 3 or so?
if you have a fully charged battery in it, and it drives the wheel with no weight on it, but with weight it doesn't run, I would suspect that the motor is going bad. The way I would test the motor is to run the battery power straight to the motor, bypassing all of the other electronics, to confirm that the motor itself is causing the problem.
I went and got a starter solenoid for like a 1995 ford f150 i believe it was. Worked ok, just be aware if it sticks on you like the 1st one did to me cause it wont shut off😂
To test the motor, just connect the battery straight to the motor with some jump wires, the motor should spin up without making any grinding sounds or anything
megyn Kelly1 any 12v batteries will work, 12 ah is the capacity of the battery, you just need 2 12v batteries to get the 24 volts. The stock batteries are like 8ah so a 12ah will last longer
OH really? the 7ah stock batterys are way too short. 30m. so i want an increase in Battery time. But maybe the 12Ah will fried something in my scooter? from what i watched in youtube about scooters upgrade that's what they say. or maybe they were talking about speed? something else? Will the 12Ah fry my scooter if i upgrade it to that rom a 7ah?
I have the Exact same color as that one haha. But when i got it a week ago. The Back tire is went flat in 30 seconds of riding it. So i tried to unscrew the nuts in the back wheel but they made it too tight so i damaged the Nut on both sides. super super tight. like it's glued on or something. now the nut is damaged and my wrench is useless. The thin skinny wrench. 15mm wrench that comes with it. skinny. Now what do i do. cannot open to replace the inner tubes. nut is damage. Stovetop can you tell me What direction is to loosen the nut. Is it Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise? cause i tried to loose unscrew the nut turning it Counter-Clockwise but it's not budging. i need someone to confirm which way to turn to loosen it. The backwheel. because i don't want to damage the nut more. Plleease someone tell me.
megyn Kelly1 the nut comes off counter clockwise, dont worry about damaging it at this point becuse you may need to just cut off if it is seized/stuck, try a good set of vice grips and if that doesnt work, a hammer and chisel would work possibly, or a small hack saw.
Ooh okay, i was turning it counter clockwise and damaged it. Thanks for confirming. i was turning it the correct way. somethings wrong then with the tight Nut. okay i will get the strong wrenches from store. Yeah i think it's stuck tight. thanks for respond.
megyn Kelly1 remember...righty tighty...lefty losey ..it’s very rare it would be opposite, 99% of the time, turn right to tight and left to lose.. RIGHTY TIGHTY ...LEFTY LOSEY
Thunder Tokeak Itll problably fry your controller at 36v, you can find electric scooter upgrades online if you would like to go the reliable route with more voltage
stovetop19 so I've got the relay hooked up like yours. But the where did you get the button switch and how did you wire it? I have tried a flip switch to the switch post on the relay but no luck. Help.....
Tyler Webber the base of the relay is ground, so you need to run a wire from the base to the negative on the battery, then run a wire from the positive of the battery to the switch then from the switch to the relay. make sure your only putting 12v to the relay activation switch, not 24.... in other words use only one battery to activate the relay, not 2(or more)
stovetop19 I wish there was a way I could show you what I have done. And see where im going wrong. I will do a negative from the base to the battery. But I want both batteries. On the 12v switch
$29 on ebay and you can buy a new 36v brushed controller that comes with a variable throttle. Disconnect the old controller and throttle, connect the new one and throttle, add another battery and there you have it.
Haha you aren't wrong, but I wasn't looking to really do it the "right" way with this, considering it was basically in the trash. This was just for fun using mostly what I had lying around👍🏼
i found one of these at my local junkyard the other day i got it and a gas engine for 20 bucks the only issue with the scooter is that the motor wont run
hey brother, I picked up one of these for $5, no body or seat, wiring is junked..., what vehicle did you purchase a solenoid for? I have a unique idea for this That I don't want to just give away lol
Warren Belile i think the solenoid was rated up to 24v but its desinged for a 12v system. i dont remember the colors for the throttle wires, but they didnt hold up because they were to small.... i ran some larger wires to a push button to activate the solenoid and it works now
@@Toytatu I bought one at target for$270 plus tax for my daughter. Eight limit says 170lbs I think. Anyhow I'm 260lbs 6'2" and I hopped on it and rode it to test it. It's surprisingly fast for such a little bike. 15mph
Man, that controller is $15 and has a current limiter, 30A max. You are sending too much current to the motor, while it is officially 250w and can handle 600 for a small period of time, you are killing it with too much current. 500w or 1000w motors are cheap, no need to kill that poor 250w
you started off lookin like a punk teenager and by the end looked like a decent 30-something year old guy with a good job and a lovely family.

Did you ever make a video upgrading the Pocket Mod from 36 volts to 48 volts yet? Where did you find the room to add the extra batteries? Joe

It would help if you showed the finished wire hookup. so we know how to hook ours up...
what cant you figure out?
How did you go about mounting the third battery down or getting it to stay in place?
We mounted ours under the seat with velcro straps and a couple pieces of aluminum angle
