@@WhyNotIdk I keep reminding myself that my brain plays games with me and that at the end of the day I can either feel really bad, because I listen to it or really good, cause I overcame the noise and focused on what I originally set to do. With time and practice, it gets easier, but this "laziness" never goes away. You just need to keep challenging it. Keep you eyes on the price and you will be okay. :)

Dude this is what Im saying. Youre not alone. Im 17. Im not allowed to walk anywhere or run anywhere. My day consists of waking up early, going to school, then after, Im either with my bf til he goes to work or Im home. I have no friends aside from my bf. So I just scroll on fb and in between, I take care of my grandparents. There are no mountains to climb on. Im in Florida. The sidewalks stop every so often in places and it sucks. I got a bike but my grandparents isolate me anyways so whats the use. Im always in the house if I aint in school. Its really hard to find the motivation to do anything if its the same thing everyday. School, home. No in between. We have a van that we've had for like 10 years. It barely works. Everytime we turn it on, we risk it shutting off in the middle of the road or it doesnt turn on at all. I have no form of transportation at all to go just me alone. We cant afford a new car. We cant afford insurance so I can get my drivers license. I only have my permit. Im in the most shittiest state physically due to being in the house all the time and even mentally, I get lonely being I dont have nobody to talk to or no way to go places, and I want to become a United States Marine but at this rate, if its the same shit, I dont think Ill ever get the fuck up to do such shit. Theres nothing there to go to thatll keep me motivated. Florida is the most shittiest state imo and Ive grown up in it. Sorry this is long. Thanks for listening. Just, youre not alone. I dont know what to do neither. I feel like we both need to know how to get out there when theres nothing like these views he sees, or the hikes he goes on. Not all of us have access to such beautiful sceneries or whatever it may be. Ah well.

I totally get what you mean because I used to be in a similar situation (I guess most people are at some point). But you gotta think of it that way: use whatever goals you have (even if they are vague, like getting out of your city eventually) as a motivation to do better in school and to make the best out of your situation. This is the time where you can still change so much about yourself and decide how your future is going to look like. If you fck it up now and don’t do well in school you probably aren’t Going to get into college, so you might not get your dream job etc. ....
So do the best you can and find a balance between your school life and your social/ fun life. That will hopefully keep you going (at least it did for me).

"Discipline and motivation are two entirely different things. Do you think anyone is 'motivated' to do shit they don't want to? Establish discipline to do what you know you have to do, and the motivation will come from completing it. You don't have to be motivated to get shit done."

2:20 - Dude, you have no idea how much THIS comment resonates with me: "I realized it's always when I let my feelings dictate my actions, instead of allowing my actions to dictate my feelings." I run a nationwide "stutterers helping stutterers" program, and we talk all the time about the interaction between behaviors and emotions. Overcoming stuttering is a tough, long process that forces us to do things that we really don't want to - but the results are SO worth the work. But I'd never heard it described in exactly that way, and hearing you put it into those terms REALLY struck a chord with me. Keep making awesome content, man! 👊

The only time I have ever gotten up before sun rise and been happy about it, was quarantine. Rather than getting up, rushing to school, coming home, working, and sleeping, I was able to get up early, make a nice breakfast, go outside, and listen to music as I watched the beautiful sunrise. I spent my days outdoors, ran a 5k everyday with my amazing brother who kept pushing me everytime I wanted to quit, laid on a picnic blanket and just watched the sky, swam in the neighborhood pool with my intermediate family, and didn't have to stress about school, social interactions, always trying to be perfect, etc. It was honestly really amazing for me. That time was exactly what I needed. I was able to work on myself without having to worry about anyone else, and it felt great.

Thanks for this great advice. I needed this today. And your video came first in my feed. I have been working so hard on a project for last three months, it was something I thought I could never do, but I finally did it. I was so happy, then I showed it to my team mate, and he was like meh.. it’s not a big deal. When I was not able to do it, he always said this is the main thing I need to do for our work to be successful, now that I did it, his reaction was completely opposite of what I expected. I thought he would be happy. I felt so disappointed because of his reaction. It made me feel so small and worthless. All of the hard work, all-nighters have no value! All of my motivation to work vanished, but after watching your video, I thought even though he did not appreciate my work, I will not lose motivation , I will just start working on the next thing, and it made me feel good. I also realised that, no matter how hard I work on something, others might not see the value of it, and that’s ok, what matters is that I did my best, I successfully did the project. Feeling small just because of one person’s reaction is not healthy for me. I will not waste time on this and move on. Thank you.

Page 125 - "Action isn't just the effect of motivation; it's also the cause of it." Most of us commit to action only if we feel a certain level of motivation. And we feel motivation only when we feel enough emotional inspiration. We assume that these steps occur in a sort of chain reaction. It's not until a major emotional life event occurs that you can generate enough motivation to actually do something. The thing about motivation is that is's not only a three-part chain, but an endless loop: Action > Inspiration > Motivation > Action etc
