  • Canadian DJ Rezz (short for Isabelle Rezazadeh) is a star in the world of electronic music, racking up millions of streams and performing at festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. But her rise in EDM came at a steep cost to her physical and mental health. She spoke with Tom Power about finding a sustainable lifestyle in a profession that involves grueling tour schedules and performing all night into the early hours of the morning.

    It's funny
Rezz makes me wanna open my computer and make music
I love a ton of artist but it's her kicks, her bass that makes me want to sit down and make music
Just released my first successful mid tempo song Encounter last week and never would have happened without Rezz

Thanks for a great interview. Rezz makes the music that I always wanted to make but never could figure out how to write. For several years now I have analyzed and re-created elements and loops from her tracks just to learn from her.

Kudos. This is one of the most interesting, insightful, and emotionally honest interviews I've ever seen with an artist. Great job to the both of you, for creating such thought-provoking content about living life, finding balance, and paying attention to well-being/mental health.

What happen to her hair. Have not seen a curly hair Rezz before

I assume her hair is naturally that way. The straight hair and the hat is more of a marketing thing to make her more recognisable.

After only three or five years of touring, have you already bought a house for one or two million dollars?

I would talk to Taylor Swift. Ask her how she made it through. Remember when she was a young as you, she was able to to create. And ask those Superstars what helped their creation? I had to come together and write a massive prayer and go over it with an educated woman who weighed 200 pounds more than I, and after things improved I had to let her go, as her weight would have ruined my life. What is the Codependent part, and in all honesty you may have had to put the air up, and take a minor brake, not burn out. Look at all your good stuff and express you as a success, you are not a failure do to confusion. Ask Depeche Mode and all those stars. Never look at sexuality unless it is what you are missing. However, I cannot tell you what is right. All I can tell you is three people in a room, and I hardly new the two I was talking to, but I told them everything so I would not fail.

Why quit? You are gifted and talented. Have you asked God to provide your muse and maker?

Do not care who it is, just make sure God is present. You will land totally okay, and again do not care who it is, Haley was on dope and I did not even know, but my life aligned exactly how it was supposed to. Of course, I am not codependent and let go and let God Sweetie. You are an amazing gift, do weaken or act like you need someone. You need you.

Burnout from DJ’ing….. some folks burn out from managing disabled kids or dealing with folks in trauma wards.

Traveling and performing constantly can be extremely grueling. And I say this as someone who is going into medicine. There's no need to put her down as if she isn't providing something important. I am immensely grateful for REZZ and other artists - they produce amazing music that I rely on to de-stress, and they put on great shows that allow us all to get away and just enjoy ourselves for a night. Some of my best memories are at her shows as a matter of fact. We all have a role in society, there is no need to put someone down for their profession.
