We love you guys for who you are and me personally only want everyone to be happy and healthy. Also shout out to Guy. Been through all the shit this year, head up champ. Always there for everyone.
Obviously you all don’t have a fucking clue who I am but I feel like I know each of you as a friend, and every single time you put out a podcast it makes my day better. The thought of anything happening to any of you is heartbreaking to me. I don’t know what the answer is but I appreciate you all having the tough conversations and trying to find a solution.
He just got a brand new puppy so the puppy prolly has him up all night needing to go outside to pee or take a big puppy grunt. Puppies will wear you out.
I was waiting for this one, RIP SHAWN, we loss a great athlete (I don’t know him personally) but he was a father and obviously a good friend. He should be remembered. FOUAD again this is gold standard outlet for the sport we all enjoy and watch. Please as a fan, I hope all of you are monitoring your health. You are all important for this sport and for all of us we consider you digital friends. Thank you for all you do
Best conversation yet. Loved it. Don’t apologies please. Athletes are always going to do what ever it takes to win or be the best. There has to be some checks and balances.
I really enjoy the debates too but it can be draining for these guys as it would be with any friendship group so there has to be balance (no pun intended 🤣).
It’s about time to get the crew some headphones so that they stop cutting out and can sound more clear. Brett was on to something when he brought his the other week. Lol. Amazing podcast like always. Really glad y’all spoke up about some of the tragedy and enjoyed the debate on how to resolve it. Hopefully something sooner rather than later.
In my unprofessional, bodybuilding enthusiast opinion, PED use has inherent risks. And the choice to take those PEDs is a personal one. I am a fan of the sport and love seeing what everyone can showcase. Even if medical testing was mandated for the IFBB at certain intervals of time, what's to say that someone taking gear will stop just because they can't compete according to their blood work? Health is a choice, bodybuilding is a choice, and using PEDs is a choice. Competing is a choice. Just because someone doesn't have "good enough" bloods to compete does not guarantee that they won't die regardless. I don't know man, I think freedom to do what you want to do is important. You can't dictate what people will value, even if it seems obvious what the priority should be. Hopefully this doesn't come across in a negative way, that's just my opinion.
I get what your saying… but people are dying dude. If you want this sport to be taken seriously and grow there needs to be structure. Just because there is a structure doesn’t make you a “slave to the system”. You still have a choice to go to another federation and compete.
Gotta love Guy...💙 Hes loyal to his friends and I love his honesty.. Wouldn't want to mess with him to be honest...Shawn Ray be shitting his pants and will avoid Guy as long as he can. Shawn was a great bodybuilder in his day but sadly his personality is non existent...
Great talk… A little too forgiving on the impact of steroids on deaths/health.. let’s be real.. you can do it “healthier” but it’s not “healthy”.. and just like F mentioned.. there’s so many additional factors that lend to the body building lifestyle that includes the drugs.. but it’s also the foods, the weight, etc.. Rip to everyone that died.. I hope people use these experiences to go to the doctor and look at what their individual efforts/goals are in the industry.
You know what happened when WWE did this kind of thing to save their wrestlers lives when they were dropping like flies from heart issues and addiction issues? They have very few wrestlers now that are big and jacked, this kind of reminds me of their situation once Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero brought steroids and issues to the mainstream light when they passed.
I am sorry this is my third comment, but this discussion has got my attention. You are all more important than an extra 5 lbs of muscle that doing something dangerous provides.
The reason i love your podcast is because it can really be serious and it can be all jokes and laughs but when it's a combination of both...i can't describe it❤ Thank you guys. + I love when a sex topic comes up and Nick's level of focus starts to raise 😂😂😂😂
I know very little about steroids . But, I feel that Fouad is correct when he said that steroids can be indirectly involved with someone having a heart attack. The heart doesn't care if you are over weight because you are Fat or carrying to much Muscle. If you are over a healthy weight you are risking a heart attack. Keep on going on 💪😊
Also directly via left ventricular hypertrophy and plaque build up from high cholesterol. That’s just the heart the high blood pressure these guys typically have is hard on all the organs over time. But there are medications they can take for all these issues and they don’t really talk about it.
As a doctor and a bodybuilder fan, i think the only way is to force test the athletes multiple times a year, this way you make sure at least every athlete is informed about his risk, now they can weigh the risks vs benefits for themselves. The other solution is to put some restrictions to the amount of drugs, yes it is gonna change the sport a little, but it will be like in the 90s again, less drugs, smaller bodybuilders and more aesthetically pleasing physiques. Either way something has to be done.
@@Adrian_angrilli inna way I respect it cause it kinda helps me not watch a 2hr podcast. I like he gets the main points. But I hate his opinions lmao. (I shouldn't say that) but he acts like he stepped on the Olympia stage numerous times.
Guy ripping on Shawn is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard 🤣 I love it. Seeing Shawn get his ass whooped at a public event would be gold. But guy better watch out because Shawn will sue
For me I don't get why people want to know how someone died. Should be about paying respects and giving the guy his dues for how amazing of a bodybuilder he is. Top podcast as usual.
@James xxx Yes but people want to know so they can be like OMG steroids. Not for the reasons you state. People online want to shit on people. Which for me I don't get
Shawn ray had a good point though Shawn Rhoden said himself on the interview with mike o Hearn that he was an alcoholic and ate garbage all the time because of his dads passing and it even got so bad that he saw blood in his urine one day. I’m sure his unhealthy lifestyle definitely had something to do with his death if he was more health conscious he could of still been alive
I don’t know man I just do this as a hobby and I get regular bloods, cardiac imaging yearly and take prophylactic medication to mitigate the effects of “bodybuilding” I feel like it comes down to personal responsibly at the end of the day and is really not that difficult to do if you truly care about your health and longevity
@@FouadAbiad man I feel like that is the case in almost every sport and even in business, it just sucks there is no one size fits all solution for the sport we love. Appreciate everything you do bringing awareness to it all
This was an ABSOLUTELY NEEDED conversation and I hope it is taken seriously by the IFBB and the athletes. It would be great to see the guys come down in size and be healthier! I know this would only happen in a perfect world, but I hope for some changes.
It's brutal. As you guys cover, people forget that there's families and friends who get left brokenhearted and missing a loved one only to have people immediately trying to speculate. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to watch that. There's a reason people gravitate to the guys on this podcast: they all build people up. Iain and Nick at the Arnold supporting each other, I've had Guy respond to DMs before. Fouad is pretty much the undisputed podcast king. People will remember those who are negative or who try to bring others down. Stay strong troops.
Fouad you’re complaining about the over reaching of federal governments however encouraging over reaching of the IFBB? You’re running down the same slope that the governments are going off of that people are not responsible enough to do things themselves so it’s “our” job to mandate? Sure the counter argument is IFBB is a private organization okay then people start a non mandated organization and you’re back to the same problem.
I came here to make this comment. I am grateful the guys are willing to discuss it openly as I can agree it’s a problem, but to deny personal culpability in favor of governing control doesn’t seem right to me. I’ve run into more young guys that don’t even have a solid understanding of what they’re doing and taking or have questionable coaches leading them astray than anything else. I’d argue for more education than mandates. But I digress, as I know they’re discussing the IFBB and not bodybuilding in general.
Not the same. Professional sports teams all have particular health requirements that need to be passed with reoccurring physicals etc before you're allowed to play. That is not the same as the government of a particular region threatening by force of fine that an employer must have their employees fulfill a particular medical requirement in order to even have any job in almost any field within the jurisdiction of that government. It's not the same as the government coercing businesses to deny you access to public or private services based off a health requirement they've set.
Just a suggestion/thought on the testing side would be combining acute data (like blood pressure logs etc) alongside more predictive testing once a year that gives you a better scope of the damage being done rather than just lab work. Like on the cardiovascular side think yearly echocardiograms to check for LVH and ejection fraction issues alongside calcium scoring as well to get a more accurate gauge on how these peoples cardiovascular health is progressing on a year to year basis.
Great episode that is one of the most thought provoking. The sport needs to do something to keep their athletes safe, Fouad had a great idea, but Guy said it, like Football, the sport would change, but the fans would still be there no matter if the guy is 285 or 235.
The amount of stress you guys put your bodies through with training, cutting or bulking diet, supplements, PEDs. Not even including the new strains of viruses our bodies have to fight now. Immune systems are just shot compared to what they used to be. It’s sad to hear about all of these deaths don’t take me the wrong way. It’s awesome that you guys are talking about this stuff and bringing it to the limelight instead of trying to hide it.
37:27 I understand where Iain is coming from but the fact of the matter is IF guys had to come off at least once a year for the lab work that would be 1-2 months more than many are off to begin with. Will it solve 100% of the issues? Hell no. Is it better than 12 months pedal to the floor like some do? Yup.
The first section of this podcast is what is needed. Conversation about how to genuinely improve the sport from a health aspect. Palumbo claimed he was doing this with that fucking idiot Ray, but you could hear these guys genuinely care about the health of fellow bodybuilders. As they all pointed out, not an easy solution but this was a much better way to have a respectful discussion around it. Thank you for all you guys do to keep the industry in a positive light 🙌🙌
