Si on serais en 1960 et que tu voyais des photo du début du 20 ieme siècle ou si on était en 2060 et que tu voyais des photos de nôtre époque actuel tu dirais surment la même chose c'est ca qui es triste des gens qui ne sont pas capables de voir la beauté dans le monde qu'il vive et qu'ils croient que s'était mieux avant

Je suis presque sur que plusieurs personne qui utilisait des chevaux pour ce déplacer a l'epoque et qui ont vue les premières voiture a essence arrivé ont du les haïr ( puanteur,bruit)etc quant a moi c'est pas la bonne facon de pensée de se perde dans la nostalgie du "s'était mieux avant" bonne soirée

Ma mère était adolescente à Lachine vers '47 et elle a réussi, avec une copine de se faufiler par une des portes de sortie en une salle de spectacle ou Lili se présentait. Lili prenait un bain sur la scène dans une baignoire transparente. Le 'show' fini, la salle s'est allumée et ma mère et son amie se sont trouvées deux fillete de 16 ans en uniforme d'école, seules dans une salle avec une centaine d'homme. Elles se sont sauvées en courant.
Wow, I remember many of the shops and businesses along St-Catherine street in these images. I worked at the Palace cinema many years ago. These places are long gone now and replaced by nothingness...Miss the Old Montreal. These images seem to be from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

I worked at DUNN’S from 2001 to 2013. I can say the smocked meat there is the best! All in all the food is awesome and the boss takes pride to offer the best quality to his product. The clientele was diverse and interesting and the people I worked with are good people for the majority.
The photo of the theater street [.13] is from 1963, at .26 is 1972, at .30 is 1953. The black and white video after about 1 minute or so until the end is from 1946.

MOntreal has had English signs for more than 220 years ,but it wasn't because they wanted to turn everything English,it was because that was the language they communicated more easily with and there were no rules on language .Everyone could put any language they wanted there was freedom.No one was forced to speak or display in any particular language.If you felt your business would make more profit bytargeting the English people you displayed in English if you wanted more French you put French which to me is rightful especially when you own your own business and sacrificed all you had why should t you ber told how to speak remember nobody is forced to buy from you If a French person sees you only have English in your business he doesn't have to shop there there are 100's more that are out there that have what they want same as for English etc.You know when it was that way the economy was reall great and Montreal was the number one city in Canda beating Toronto.
Just for your information, all the french staff at Eaton's was forbidden to speak french between themselves, and with french customers. They had to answer in english. And I witnessed this hundreds of times when I was living in Montreal during that period. And I'm giving you Eaton's as an example. Same thing in all the major stores on St Catherine. Yes there were rules on language....you spoke english.
Listen to me yes there were some SOBS that were dumb but do you think the right ones approved of it,we too be it the same language did not like they did that they were hardheaded idiots it's not the language that counts anymore when these things happen it's the individual that cause this.Doesn't mean that everyone has to be punished for it.But when you talk about Francophones against English they crucify each and everyone good or bad.English was not the problem it was the people that used it some were the best you ever met and some assholes . Like then and now both French and English are beautiful languages but when they get in the hands of the wrong people they could make those languages look ugly as hell and either one and they can cause hatred.

Mon père a travailler au café provincial comme portier et assistant gérant. C'était la belle époque des cabarets avec spectacles.

Yes. They're such a great memory. But I agree. Not from the 50's only. Werewolves on Wheels was released in 1971. It's showing on the Capitol marquee.
