The PT cruiser seems like it doesn't have enough power to get out of it's own way.
That's the PT Cruiser in general, my parents have had 3 of them and when there's 4 to 5 people in it they're just slow af
@@mirthenary yeah but this thing has an old tired truck v8 im 90% sure. i mean i know v6s can sound beefy with no exhaust but this thing sounds like an 8 for sure.

@@mirthenary that is true.they got no beans, but the block is iron and is a tank. we had one that was falling apart in everyway yet didnt care. thermostat going and its just running on overheat like nothing is going on.
It would also benefit from from lower gearing. That engine sounds pretty tired trying to move that thing so either a refresh and rebuild with some better parts or a lower rear gear would do wonders.
if you lock the difs and rebuild the motor with snorckles there is nothing that could stop it. i think you have the workings of a really good build.

i think this PT deserves a better engine. pull a junkyard LT or LS and give it hell. also yoink the transfer case out of the junkyard truck. this things 4wd also seems tired, and has too long of gearing.
I agree. Right now it has 350 SBC that seems to be running on 6 cylinders lol. It’s gonna come down to whether or not if they want to invest extra money into it. They could pull the 350 and send it to a machine shop have it refreshed,and upgraded with a tunnel ram, roller cam, and heads. Put some steeper gears front and rear and have a reputable tranny shop look at the trans and transfer case. So basically they’re pulling out and then just bolting it back in. LS/LT swap is nice with a decent junkyard block. But if they’re wanting to keep it simple and not convert to efi, they’ll still have to fork out money for an LS carb intake and a regulated 5-7 psi fuel pump. Add money for a motor mount kit, kit to mount the TH350/TH400 to the LS/LT, cooling system, possible oil pan swap. It can nickel and dime you to death. Watching the channel enough, they’ll want to keep it simple.
@@shootist0052 thats why i think the best option would be just to go find a chevy 6.0 and pull the whole driveline. the 6.0 would have plenty of power stock. and theyre tough as all hell. at that point youd probably have more issues fitting the transmission and getting a shorter driveshaft because a PT definitely isnt as long as most normal crew cab trucks. it might not even fit a 6.0 PTs look like they have a ton of engine space but they dont. its all a lie haha.
the 5.3 aint bad either though. and if that would fit it would have double the power of this current engine. it could definitely spin tires in mud
@@shootist0052 a ls trucks transfer case will not work the front drive shaft is on the driver's side and that k5 blazer chassis front axle drive shaft is on the passenger side

I do have to give it to the PT (this is the only time I'll say that) seeing Sr. And Jr. in the front seats and they aren't touching shoulders! The interior space is better than I remember!
I think it’s not crazy enough as an off-roader you need something even less practical like a Lotus or something, you and your dad make this channel brilliant
Fix it up so it runs right, put on some taller flotation tires, beef it up where it needs it, and give it a fair chance!

You need to route the exhaust out the back and up high just like a snorkel. Will help you out a lot, and get an electrical fan that you can turn on and off when you get into the deep water.

Cutting out is nornal when the air filter is on top in the open, and especially when you run a mechanical fan. Swap the fan for couple electrics with a good shroud, and route the air intake into the cab(through the ac box is usually easy enough just yank it out and run ducting through), also a zip lock bag and a zip tie over the coil and distributer, thing would be sooo much happier! Glad to see you, your dad, and even some other family (in this video) out having a great time!! Keep the videos coming!

You need a carburetor for a boat or tie the bowls together with a rubber hose so it keeps the fuel bowl the same level in fuel
You can hear that motor just a knocking and rattling... it's just barely hanging on. Great video! Great fun with father and son!

An seemed it either needs a tail pipe chimney stack an spiked back tires as the first drive in mud an water it got stuck .an the other time you got across an it died out . So either those few tips or you can do other things I dig the vehicles an the brutal tests you do with em haha . An I thought of eventually making my own ripsaw tank or miniture tank eventually have you ever thought of doing that an brutal testing it? 😄 my idea was to make something like that for snow an dirt plowing an for tree knocking down an lugging carting things . Haha
Step 1,
Pick up a couple of Matt's off road recovery ropes (fellow UA-camr)

Engine, transmission and gear upgrade
Step 3,
Get ahold of Demo, Donut and AK and the four of you grab all of your off-road toys, get ahold of Matt's off-road recovery and do a cross over video in Utah. Maybe even throw the diesel Brothers in there too.
That would be one hilarious video series.

It needs a tune up,that would help alot in the power area.FIX IT AND ENJOY IT,that rig would be great if it ran better and had a little suspension work done.
put some sealer on the distributor so it wont get wet inside and you would be good.

If you keep it, that Chevy V8 needs a tune up and the timing checked. Zoomies through the hood, an electric fan, and pull the ignition box and coil in the cab. Next size bigger mudders would be sweet, but probably impractical on a budget. Love the videos though!

Hey Scott here's a trick for putting rope in the container, is a fisherman and I was kind of known as what I'm talking about, you put when you go to start to put the rope in the container don't put it in a coil just have a neat pile mask over one side and when you go to put the rope in the container have your first and sticking out the top and then just throw the rope in the container making sure the one end stays out until you get to the very end and then when you get to the very end make sure the other end of the rope sticks out on the opposite side of the container and you'll never have a tangle
Get it running good, maybe a mild 250-300HP build, regear, and I bet it would be fun.
No one ever thought the PT cruiser is cool, so there’s that… maybe next time, attach a chain to the vehicle BEFORE venturing into the pond.
If you fix that old blazer to where it will more than half ass run it might be a lot more fun.

You guys need to get rid of those boulevard tires and get some swampers on that thing. Plus waterproofing the motor would help tremendously. We've got guys who have the tires and the gearing to just idle across ponds like that without turning a tire using 6 and even 4 cylinder motors.

Id put a motor in it maybe refresh the one in it either way the one in there now is tired but it could be a mean little mud slinger with a good motor
I don't mean to criticize, but worth mentioning tow balls are not the best place for a recovery. I've sadly seen way too many people loose their lives when they eventually snap off 😵.
And while they might work a time or two, just best to avoid.

If I've learned one thing here I've learned this don't drive cars into lakes and ponds. I always wanted to take a PT Cruiser and paint pictures of General P.T.G.Beauregard and his horse on the sides in Civil War scenes and call it the PT Beauregard Cruiser.
You should seriously get a chain and put over that cable on that Winch Because if that cable snaps, there's a lot of damage going to happen, you can also open your hood that will help

That PT Cruiser needs a better SBC, that one sounds like it was pulled out of a junkyard 30 years ago, sat and then never gone through before putting it in the PT Cruiser lol.

Put a splash guard in front of the air filter so when you hit water it doesnt splash up onto the filter and flood the air filter and engine in water
The exhaust did not suck up water lol it cannot. The fan was hitting the water and flinging it around and the air cleaner sucked it up, and that's why it continued to run like sh!t even after... Then died when you got the pond fast... Water doesn't burn well lol... Love the neutral drops though.. I'd say you the carburetor needs some tuning... Wish I lived closer I'd offer some help with making sure these things didn't happen in the future 🤣

Tune/replace that carburetor if ya keep it. Sounds super flat. May wanna consider water proofing the ignition system. Or at least keep it out of the carb. I know everyone on the net is an expert. Jus tryna help.
