Great video!
"Old"??? That's funny Taylor. I started climbing at 43 and I am 55 now.....
Thanks and keep yourselves safe! 😎👍❤️🌲
Randy
Very encouraging. I am 7 months away from turning 43 and waiting for my climing gear to arrive so I can start learning how to climb. Can't wait.! Great video by the way!
@@nailgunnelli 😎👍❤️🌲
I started at 64 if you don't count my childhood and Army years.
@@r.j.martin1818 Love it! Be safe! 😃👍❤️🌲
Interesting. I'm 43 and just getting into it. Background in rock climbing doesn't hurt.
Like a clothesline, very nice. Excellent rescue demonstration, that was really cool to see with the same stuff you use daily.
Thanks guys. Really appreciate you taking the time to put this live feed together.
Taylor and Co. Always appreciate your expertise in all areas of tree work. Maybe time to upgrade to a Go Pre eh?
Great stuff guys - thanks for all the effort - in return I time stamped all the wonderful info - hope its useful for learners
1:00 Overview of the webinar. Advanced MRS i.e. several types of add-in prussik, V rig (M method), hybrid system (MRS and SRS), lanyard usage. Theme is about smart decision making all through-out the day to reduce pressure on your body and thus fatigue. Being the best possible thoughtful climber to extend longevity in the game. This is a similar train of thought btw to that expressed by Craig Bachman in another TreeStuff webinar.
MRS vs SRS
Taylor's preference: SRS for ascent 5:42, MRS to work the canopy 11:20
Nicks' preference: SRS for ascent and work in column type trees where you stay within 30 degrees of an imaginery plumb line from the
anchor point - such as Conifers
MRS good in smaller trees or when working wider off-plumb beyond 30 degrees 1:45:30
6:15 Hybrid ascent set-up: Using SRS access line to hoist the MRS system up into the canopy.
First add pinto pulley with eye-in-eye prusik (6:39) by tying a 6 coil prussik then add stopper knot below 6:56., e.g. Alpine Butterfly - leaving a long loop negates the need for a carabiner.
Other examples of hybrid use is shown throughout via use of a foot ascender in MRS systems to advance
7:24 Promo for hitch climber eccentric.
9:58 Installing MRS system onto access line (hybrid) onto pinto pulley 10:30 lengthening out the MRS line to enable switching from SRS to MRS
12:23 Base Anchor set-up: over the years Taylor has moved away from gadjets to simply tying an alpine butterfly and then with a bit of rope tying a running bowline finished with a half hitch. The addition of another climbing kit nearby enables groundies to clip in a SRS or MRS and to vector in to release the bowline to lower the person to the ground
15:24 MRS hitch set-up discussion. Uses Teufelberger Drenaline for climbing. Hitch climber with Duralock Ultra O on the bottom, and the PerfectO on the bottom, the latter is compact and keeps the eye-splice closer to the pulley to reduce interference from the hitch.
16:00 Tree-motion Evo harness. 19:50 Advantage of Evo is the two bridges enables transfer between SRS and MRS
19:00 Ascent via SRS method
20:00 switching to MRS - using Petzle Pantin to take load off shoulders to advance and load the MRS to check before removing the SRS
21:50 switching back to SRS - always load the secondary and release the primary system to load and check the secondary system before removing the primary system
22:30 tips on ascent with SRS - eg line routed against trunk if possible to touch toes on trunk and use the trunk for balance
25:40 disconnecting the MRS from the pinto pulley on the SRS and reattaching to a higher anchor point using throw bag on eye
26:53 the infamous phone drop by Nick followed by his total disbelief 😳and anguish 😱 contrasted by Taylor's hilarious laughter 🤣
33:00 Add-in prusik type 1 for self-tending on ascents (the Big O Rig) .
This system both eliminates the need to tend slack and enables longer pulls. Its good if you are looking for a way to get bigger strides on the ascend. The prusik doesn't need to be load bearing, it could be a thimble prussik or mechanical device such as the Ropeman (1) by Wild Country. In essence this system involves adding the thimble prusik and then switching the eye-spice to the lower carabiner and the thimble to the upper carabiner.
see a more youthful Taylor demonstrate the 'floating prussik' more clearly on ua-cam.com/video/u4AlDpIZraA/v-deo.html starts at 2min 29 sec

and for
And for a good demo of the O Rig with CT Roll and Lock - see - ua-cam.com/video/w_jspKWW_X0/v-deo.html
38:04 Add-in prusik type 2 - the beginning of the V Rig to make short usable length of rope on the front end of his system
Unclipping the eye-splice (front end of the system) to use the line lanyard for second attachment is simple when using an add-prusik with 6 coil prusik (bidirectional). 43:55 Other options are a double ended lanyard, the tail of climbing line, or other climbing system. This is super quick and easy - only requires one carabiner and one prusik.
48:50 using the add-in prusik to ascend with other end of the line
50:35 Demo of improper side D use - never use when the lanyard is above your waist especially if its above your head as they are not rated
53:50 V Rig set up (or M method) with a Hitch Climber pulley
Attach a Hitch Climber pulley to the top line then attach via carabiner to the becket of the lower hitch pulley. Note: less friction is better in V Rig so using pulley's on a sling is a good idea.
1:00:50 Add-in prusik type 3 for progress capture on V Rig
Note: for clearer idea see a younger Taylor demonstrate this on ua-cam.com/video/FF-6S4IvMww/v-deo.html - start at 5min 33sec
1:02:33 Friction hitch material needs have a cover with some amount of heat resistant fibre if you run rope quickly thru it or quite a lot over time i.e. avoid pure polyester. You can use a multi-sling if the work is static
1:04:50 removing and re-attaching the add-in prusik to traverse the other way
1:17:50 demonstrating V rig from another angle
1:27:33 demo of another V rig with the Revolver Rig
1:31:35 removing pulley saver from the anchor point and reattaching the line without a pulley to add friction to the V rig system in order to prevent sliding to the equilibrium point
1:47:30 Add-in prusik type 4 for counter-balance rescue
this is incredible. thank you!
@@user-ku2qb1pq7e no worries, I also did this another one of your Webinars with Taylor Hamel

thanks for doing the rescue again
Thank you sooo much for you expertise. I'm 52 this winter and climbing trees. So at 43 you are still a spring chicken...... thanks again guys!!!
I’m 52 and started climbing for fun a few months ago and love it. Treemotion S Light with a swivel on the bridge. Yale Safari 11 mm rope. Rope Wrench are my go to gear. I have so much gear and don’t care about cost I’m buying the best to stay safe n come home after a day climbing and using my DMM Captain hooks.
Glad to help!
I’m 52 and just took up climbing again. After 20 years of not climbing I am so happy to be at it again.
Man what a great webinar I just wish we could actually see this video very very poor video quality
27:39 .. funniest thing I've seen for a while .. brilliant video 😂
Great webinar! Im going to prtactice that vrig and get it into my skill set. Wondering if it would be feasible to set both tips for the vrig from the ground and run the line through them before entering tree.
Hey I just accidentally bumped into your video and planned to finish after I ask for advice on climbing techniques for a lead or a tree top that is at a 45% angle and nothing else close enough or higher to tie in to
Too steep to walk too laid down to climb
What is the best practice
Really interesting. Very complicated. How did you ascend on the black rope initially?
Way too complicated. It’s getting silly these days.
Invaluable information, but we need to be able to see the footage clearly, next time, both climbers should have a GoPro, which would have more value after recording as compared to a live video with inferior production value. Just my 2 cents.
Thank you for sharing this video, learned alot❣👍
the rescue method could be used if you are on a SRT system to reach the casualty. You could attach the end of your rope over a limb and ono the casualty and you would be set up with the friction hitch and added friction ready to go
What kind of phone is that? It survived a good fall!
Have Treestuff provide an extra phone. Put a lanyard on each phone
live recordings can be challenging but when the phone fell that was awesome LOL ..
I love it
Nice to see this video ❤️
'prefering MRS over 30 degrees' I personally much prefer using SRT for widespreading trees for the must better redirecting you can do with SRT. You can use redirects so your rope angle is never above 30 degrees in most trees
Need more TreeStuff! Could you include the music soundtrack?
music is a distraction.. turn on your radio
Music soundtrack? No way!
I was thinking, "don't toss the phone... it might fall" ... now I'm thinking "should've tossed the phone" lol
They have to get you guys some type of rigged up mount for that phone 🤣
Go straight to 27:30!
dmm glitch art taylor hamel
good content but the filming was nauseating at times from all the moving around. also 720p is horrible resolution. a good camera could have been used to get HD at least.
give me a job... I want to learn
What is all that
I think you need to get a better camera for doing you tubes
