1,000th comment. This film is a masterpiece and I love it. I’ll never forget watching it with my mother. During a road trip to visit my father, about half way there we reached San Antonio, and got through it to the country. Boerne and Seely alike. My mother changed the station on the radio to a rock station only available in that area, the moment the commercial ended, the host announced on the radio that Jim Gordon had died. He told the story of his collaborations in music and his amazing talent, and eventually his tragic tale. He also told of his composition of this piano piece in “Layla,” which he soon after played. My mother and I silently and listened to it. When the piano piece played, my god. I never heard the song like that, something was different about it.
It's a great one but I don't even think it's the best Scorsese movie. After Hours is my favorite and then probably Taxi Driver. Goodfellas is great though.
I literally had this playing and didn't realize that the song ended right as I was about to clock out for work. What a great ending to work to have this playing. Such a great song!
More than the cinematic perspective, what made the music great is the band behind it: Bobby Whitlock (keyboards/piano), Carl Radle (bass), Jim Gordon (drums) and Duane Allman (slide guitar)...plus Eric Clapton. The person who actually composed the piano bit is Jim Gordon's girlfriend Rita Coolidge... who sadly was never credited on the album.
You know, we always called each other good fellas. Like you said to, uh, somebody, :You're gonna like this guy. He's all right. He's a good fella. He's one of us.: You understand? We were good fellas. Wiseguys. But Jimmy and I could never be made because we had Irish blood. It didn't even matter that my mother was Sicilian. To become a member of a crew you've got to be one hundred per cent Italian so they can trace all your relatives back to the old country. See, it's the highest honor they can give you. It means you belong to a family and crew. It means that nobody can fuck around with you. It also means you could fuck around with anybody just as long as they aren't also a member. It's like a license to steal. It's a license to do anything. As far as Jimmy was concerned with Tommy being made, it was like we were all being made. We would now have one of our own as a member.
jamescrumbs I always felt like that line glorified made guys. There were guys with certain families and certain crews like the Gotti crew and the Vario crew that made money hand over fist. But you had plenty of guys from the Bonnano crew, from Jersey and Philly, etc., who were struggling for gas money.
@@StuUngar to be fair anything you don’t have is glorified by your view. Henry couldn’t be made so he saw it as a “license to do anything” at the end of the day they weren’t wrong. The family had their back as long as they didn’t mess with fellow members

(U can't make this stuff up!!)
My grandparents lost the house they lived in for 40 some odd years and saying the last goodbye to the house I played this and my aunt and grandparents just cried to this song playing. Always think of Goodfellas and that house I grew up in when I was there. Childhood when parents were at work, growing up and lived there after graduating to help them out with basic household chores. 26 years of my life with that awesome home. Always think of that place as "home is where the heart is". My mother and 2 sisters grew up there as well so tons of memories of that place. One of the oldest houses on that block. Was built in 1965ish or something
I feel your agony. Had a similar experience with a great-grandparents' house. Built in 1906 near downtown Los Angeles, they moved in around 1950 during the prosperous '50's. My aunt, who is going to be 60 was the last person of the family to reside there until it was sold in about 2003. No immediate family could afford or wanted to move in. Time just marches on, unless we commemorate events we hold dear to our hearts.
I liked the egg 🥚 noodles & ketchup quote at the end. I grew up in Brooklyn New York alongside Goodfellas, so I can relate, it was just as in the film 🎥 🎞
I love this part. I fall in love with my friend. She like me, but not love me. My heart is broken, but is new year and i know, that the love is for me somewhere and good friendship is better than bad love. I drove my car today with blasting with this piece and i smiled and cried together. Thank you Derek and Dominoes and Goodfellas for this piece and true love is for everyone good people 😊
The song “nightswimming” by REM reminded me of this tune. It agonized me for hours trying to place this song. I finally found it. Then I discover that both songs were recorded using the same piano. That was a small amazing thing to me.
That has got to be one of the gayest songs ever. Michael Stripe wrote that gay song about taking his first dick up the ass while swimming at night with his gay lover

"You know, we always called each other good fellas. Like you said to somebody, “You’re gonna like this guy. He’s all right. He’s a good fella. He’s one of us.” You understand? We were good fellas. Wiseguys."

Absolutely amazing soundtrack. It’s so incredibly sad, heartbreaking and beautiful. Every time I hear this all I can picture is Tommy gettin his brains splattered all over the floor. It’s a powerful soundtrack.
When I’m having a shitty day, this is one of the few guaranteed ways to get some endorphins kicking. I feel like the up and downs of the exit represent the up and downs of life.
Well at least you can use a depressing melody like this one and turn it into something fun and motivational instead, make it worthwhile, life ain't guaranteed tomorrow haha I suppose.

This track pulls at all my heart-strings, epic and transcendent. A track that can sum up a lifetime of experiences and emotions.
This is the most amazing musical piece ever written. It won't get better than this
My wife and I had this played at our wedding as we left the ceremony together. Sounded absolutely amazing.
Such a great piece of music.
Nobody was killed afterwards. Right?
@@themanwiththeplan728"When they found Carbone in the meat truck, he was frozen so stiff it took them two days to thaw him out for the autopsy."
@@themanwiththeplan728 Well, I haven't seen my sister's boyfriend since that day.....
Rip Ray Liotta a truly great actor and national treasure.
My Dad loved this movie, and he loved this song even more. Especially this part. He played the piano………I miss my dad so much! 😢
We played this at my grandpa’s funeral. To me, it’s about saying goodbye.
Jim Gordom played the piano on layla not Bobby
You’re a spitting image of my father…not trolling you look exactly like him 🤟
You know, we always called each other good fellas. We would now have one of our own as a member.
jamescrumbs And then he catches it in the back of the head.
I wonder if his last thought was "Shit, I should have just grabbed my fucking shine box."
jamescrumbs I always felt like that line glorified made guys.
"Oh n-" (POW!! THUD!!)
There was a lot of fact (S) in the movie that went over the heads of a lot of people (I was born in Brooklyn. raised in "Jerzey...went to school w/ "The Sopranos" and even had a friend after this movie came out who was approached in a Nutly, NJ nightclub, when my 2 pals, (Who resembled the actors) were approached by a person who gave my friend a card & said " I can get you parts in a movie." my friend slowly turned the card over & said in his deep Itailian voice "Movies... we're the kind the Guys they make Movies about... )I'm over 70 & got a lot of stories... (U can't make this stuff up!!)
It's ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, I listen to this incredible music, and instantly see the movies scenes. Thank Mr. Scorcese for introducing me to this piece.
Dang sorry to hear that
I love this part. I fall in love with my friend. She like me, but not love me. My heart is broken, but is new year and i know, that the love is for me somewhere and good friendship is better than bad love. I drove my car today with blasting with this piece and i smiled and cried together. Thank you Derek and Dominoes and Goodfellas for this piece and true love is for everyone good people 😊
What a beautiful classic gem
That scene is so beautiful
A bunch of dead bodies being found is beautiful?
Watched this last night, I always forget how amazing the acting is in the movie. RIP Mr Ray 🙏
I’ll never forget Ray’s stunning performance in the Bee Movie, it moved me to tears and molded me into the man I am today. May he rest as a legend.
“This isn’t a good fella, this is a baaaad fella!!!”
He's gone...and we couldn't do nuthin' about it...
it was among the italians, real greaseball shit . they even shot tommy in the face so they couldnt give him an open coffin at the funeral
hahaha I remember this line... they whecked im...
Whaddya mean he's gone?
*Smashes phone over and over in a fit of rage*
Gareth, the bosses were so sick of Tommy.
Its so calming to imagine all those dead bodies, beautiful music, magical scene
This is what ascending into heaven sounds like

You're gonna like this guy, he's a good fella he's one of us!

Just introduced my wife to this film and saw it with the freshness of HER eyes.
It truly is the masterpiece of cinema everyone says it is...
Thank you Ray. To star opposite DeNiro in his prime and still shine shows how good he was. No more needs to be said.
“Jimmy was cutting every link between himself and the robbery, but it had nothing to do with me.”
"I gave Jimmy the tip and he gave me some Christmas money"
Sometimes a movie can end up owning a song. Goodfellas owns this one. The demise of Tommy Devito. Classic. It doesn't get any better than this.
I want this song at my funeral...
Me
Me too bro...
We can bury you in a refrigerator truck?
the piano exit was playing at my papaws funeral. he passed a year ago. he played the guitar and my nana gave me his guitar and i am learning this song it. just the piano exit
Yeah, same here. It’s like life end credits
This to me, is the greatest piece of music ever written. Words cannot describe how much I love the last half of Layla

bro this song is beautiful, it makes me want to honestly cry
many wonderful memories from the summers of my youth in 1971 & 1972 as a So Cal high school freshman/sophomore parties and surfing everyday.
The way Scorsese used this beautiful tune, as a background music for mobs executing their own men, still awed me till this day... both the movie and this music are timeless pieces of art
Rest In Peace Ray Liotta.. great actor!.. 🙏
This is our song when my brothers and I all hang out and toast one last beer before we part ways.🍻
RIP Mr Ray Liotta aka Henry Hill Goodfellas will never be the same without you 1954-2022
Such a masterpiece. Love it! Both the song and the movie of course.
Every time I hear this part of the song tears fill my eyes
Absolutely amazing soundtrack. It’s so incredibly sad, heartbreaking and beautiful. Every time I hear this all I can picture is Tommy gettin his brains splattered all over the floor. It’s a powerful soundtrack.
"And that's that...."
Great choice to end a movie,a great piece of music to end a masterpiece.
My mom closed on the childhood house in Brooklyn we had in our family for 49 years. Played this as I did the last walkthrough…..fitting ….
RIP Ray Liotta you are a legend.
Great movie, great music and a shout out to all the fans of this movie also..
You all have good taste..
I might or might not have been conceived to this song lol, somehow always knew this song since a child.
This song reminds me of my childhood with my gpaw and how it sadly had to eventually come to an end, we loved this movie
Rest In Peace to the great legend Ray Liotta 🕊
Came here to pay my respects to the legend himself
"Oh, I'm really excited you're humanely relocating me to outside your house!"

I feel like the up and downs of the exit represent the up and downs of life.
Well at least you can use a depressing melody like this one and turn it into something fun and motivational instead, make it worthwhile, life ain't guaranteed tomorrow haha I suppose.
