Love to see you interacting with your kids while working with your printer. I have been somewhat interested in getting a 3d printer for quite a while but I was never quite sure what I would do with it. I recently became a Dad as well and all of a sudden I got this idea that I could print toys for my son. So I went and bought my first printer. It's an Ender 3 s1 pro. One of my fav synthesizer youtubers (Loopop) puts a quick table of contents on the beginning of the video too and it's really nice if i only care about certain parts or want to jump around or pick back up at a certain part later. That being said, if it hurts your revenue for us to jump around rather than play straight through, by all means split it in half!

I like how you explained the comparison between why you would build something like this. For me, I'm not the kind of person that would build something like this. I would rather go with something like the Bambu P1P or X1 Carbon. For me it's about the production, not the build. The hotrod analogy was great.

As someone who has an X1C and Voron Switchwire, the Voron was worth the work, at least for me. The X1C has a higher absolute movement speed, but when comparing two ABS parts printed at 16mm3/s, the Switchwire produces nicer parts without any ringing or z-wobble lines. I see the benefits of both approaches though. I have my Switchwire for printing airtight PETCF parts and the X1C for everything else where quality isn't as important.

I'm living a similar story with a Trident build. Was collecting parts for a DIY build and got PIF printed parts from the Voron group, then bought an available LDO kit so combining the LDO, PIF and my customizations into a puzzle of large proportions. Fun but time consuming. Jumping between instructions, backtracking slightly, and trying to predict ahead to optimize the work has been interesting. Tried printing a few parts on the Prusa but they didn't stick to the bed, so building with PIF and a couple of PETG parts and will reprint them when the Voron is together.. For The next layer to do this on top of all the content and family to care for I give you props! Keep It Up! 3d printing is going to change the ways of life in the next years. The issues you had with various versions are interesting, when I built my V1.8 it was ONE guide, and a quick addendum since I wanted to go with a Dragon hotend instead of a V6. I also cheaped out in some aspects of using old parts, and had to make some....interesting...modifications because of it (mostly on the Z axis). The machine is a workhorse, and I've toyed with the idea of picking up a V0 or a V2 as a supplemental printer. I've also looked into what it'd take to turn mine into a Trident or a V2, and it'd be about as much as a new one lol, so something to keep in mind for upgrade paths.

I am 100% with you on everything you have said thus far. I loved how thorough and how much attention to mods and parts and labeling LDO paid. Then I ran into the same issues with guides and addendums and ruining parts, and wasting time to the point that I just kinda took a break, and ordered parts that I wasn't aware I even needed! "Klicky printed parts" I agree that it is mostly my fault for not being prepared and doing my proper research beforehand, but I was excited. I pulled the trigger too quickly and now I am frustrated beyond belief. I have recently ordered a Bambu Lab p1p but fully intend to get back to the 2.4 when I get a little free time. Thanks for the vid, keep up the great effort!

I have been enjoying your videos, great production quality and skills in front of the camera for being a fairly new channel. 👌 I built an LDO V2.4 this summer and am in love with it, and how well it works now that I’ve customized it exactly how I want it. Is yours going to live in the same wooden enclosure in your studio room? I have an enclosure that is very similar so I am wondering how you will deal with the heat inside with the glass window door closed, or the noise in the room with that door open, the V2.4 at good speeds is on a completely different noise level than a slow bed slinger… 😬 you should also look into the Nevermore Max, that would be a great mod for your long term health if you and your wife are going to work in that room breathing in the same air all the time. Keep it up! 💪🏼

Having built both a formbot and a LDO kit - the LDO is in a different league of nice. They've documented everything, it's just up to us to actually pay attention and do what they've told us to do ;)
The original PDF manual isn't trivial to modify unfortunately and I think given the reality of it all, that LDO has done it in the best way possible.
But you're spot on when it comes to how the process is such a big part of it, it goes way beyond just assembling a 3d printer. Lots of fun, so much learning and remember - you're your own support so actually knowing how it went together is kind of an upside (there is a helping team on the voron discord though - but knowing how its built helps a lot). When I build my V2.4 350 I went ahead and look through all manuals involved in the build. For LDO kit you will likely have 4-5 manuals to skim through. Then I just print parts in order of the build manual while waiting for the kit to arrive. I didn’t use spreadsheet or checklist the help in tracking down which part is needed for the build and which one is not. All you need to do is flip through all manuals before printing parts. you’ll know which one you need by the time you finish reading.😂

Another hot take on the "maybe someone should do a Voron+SB+LDO manual".
Voron's ethos is you make it and build it yourself with the most basic materials as practically possible. LDO is way out of that mindset and it makes the printer 50% more expensive than it could be (some people self source on AliExpress for 750 bucks, and other kits are not much more expensive than that and yield a printer that is as good as LDO's)
As for the Stealthburner, it's still RC (release candidate) which is why Afterburner is still stock config. I can imagined that once Tap has seen enough use and gets a "1.0" release they'll merge Tap and SB (it was meant that way to begin with anyway) and make that setup stock config with an updated manual.

I love your videos. Basically I started to use the Printables because of your recommendation. I would love a compare video with the Bamboolab printers in YOUR POINT OF VIEW after 1 or 2 months of use. But as a Material Engineering student I would love to see a video about that you how recycle your filed prints, shatter it and make a new spool of filament from it, or just simply throw away (in the trash or the recycle bin in this case doesn’t change anything), or any of your recommendations in the recycling.
PS: I agree the special thanks the recommendations of the companies who gifted the materials and the kits, but I would appreciate if there would a separate section for this in the beginning or/and the end of the video, because right now with rude speaking it feels like “They gave me this so use this with your prints”.

If the kit would come with the exact list of parts to print, or even better, a thumb drive with applicable stl's would help.

I’ve got an X1C+2xAMS and I love it. It will print faster than my 350mm^3 2.4 because smaller build areas are inherently more rigid and can handle faster accelerations. My v0.1 prints faster than my X1C for the similar reasons.

  • @Penofhell
    @Penofhell Рік тому

Hot take on the "selecting and printing Voron parts is a pain" : I honestly think an LDO kit makes it more complicated because it's not a stock config, adding these extra options (including the clicky probe parts which only help making this mod the de facto "I have other issues but clicky solved it therefore the inductive probe is shit" symptom generator) just create to much noise for newcomer IMHO.. I "maked" my 350 2.4r1 from a basic (stock) kit from Formbot and I could tell what I needed to print just by looking at the name of the parts. It took maybe 30min sorting the STLs out, planning the plates and labeling plastic bags with based on the folder names. The build was made effortlessly using only the official manual and the docs website, nothing else.
Also while it's fine to mention you can order printed parts from 3rd party companies, it would have been great to have mentioned the PIF (print it forward) program as the best way to get printed parts, they're made by the Voron community under the (stringent) control of Doc and it's also probably the most cost efficient way.
EDIT : Yeah that's also why you had issues with things not in the manual. The best thing any newcomer can do is build a stock Voron first, and tune it later. The stock config comes with 95% of the performance you'll get with "upgrades".

I think Voron and the kit manufacturers should select a "starter package" and then offer EVERYTHING for that in a kit (i.e. including parts, wiring, EVERYTHING!) and have a single document describing that package's assembly. Sure the "every Voron is unique" statement might sound cool, but for a lot of people the initial complexity will turn them off. Once you have that starter, then you have something to build your own parts for upgrades or a next printer. The second thing turning people off will likely be the price. Also there standardizing on a single "starter package" should allow for some scale-optimisations, no?

    • @thenextlayer
