He probably should see a clip of the original just to have some proper context. Which are also quite funny. For example the The Gnu song which was also in the muppet show. ua-cam.com/video/j53z6RfFb7U/v-deo.html
@@kosefix Flanders and Swann were a great 1950s/60s duo of comic singers, storytellers, and entertainers. Flanders had been serving in WW2 in the Royal Navy when he unfortunately caught Polio which paralysed him from the waist down, rendering him wheelchair bound, but he retained his marvellous singing voice and could tell a great story (check out their Greensleeves routine for an example). Xander not only plays the piano he's also a successful singer .Nowadays he also hosts a successful quiz ' Pointless' where contestants have to find the most obscure answers .Surprising you aren't the first American to confuse Ben Miller with Rob Brydon , Robs Welsh accent is very different .
This was another of their recurring skits, like the RAF pilots, great stuff. The earlier, very similar Fry and Laurie shows are WELL worth covering too. All the best to you and yours from Scotland. 👍
Armstrong and Miller are bloody class . Love this sketch . I say they 'are ' ... they were. Now I think Armstrong is literally a game show host . 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
And he presents the quiz show Pointless where the aim is to come up with a correct answer to a question that the fewest of 100 people surveyed gave and thus score the lowest number of points. One such question was which artists had one of the 50 best selling albums in a specific year? One of the contestants gave the answer "Alexander Armstrong", which turned out to be pointless. Armstrong was delighted both because hadn't realised his album was on the list and because he was a pointless answer.
Alexander Armstrong featured on an episode of the family history programme 'Who Do You Think You Are' in the UK. It turns out that he has several prominent people from British history in his tree including ultimately King William 'The Conquerer'.
Everyone in the world who has even the slightest amount of English blood in their veins (and probably French blood as well) is related to William the Conqueror, because mathematically we all have more ancestors than people who were alive in England (and probably France) in 1066. Therefore everyone must be related to William the Bastard in one way or another if they have any English or French blood.
A few of the background actors are known from a kid's programme called "Horrible Histories" and "Ghosts"... they're very funny programmes, worth checking out!
@@jjc5407 True, and both the US and French versions have included characters relevant to their own histories. The dead scoutmaster manages to remain in all three.........
I think the key to this sketch is the 'juxtaposition' . The Victorians; in Britain (1837-1901) were quite a pioneering lot, they did some pretty racy things. Mountain climbing, Ballooning, going over rapids in a barrel, dare devil stuff, Absinthe, laudanum, Opium, Heroin, Crowleyism. But having this bloke on the piano do some 'off the wall ' stuff musically, kind of twisted their collective melons! HOABL
If you liked this, I strongly recommend looking at the Armstrong and Miller Show compilation 'Spring Cotillion'... a series of period dancing scenes from the same era where the dialogue between the couples is extremely suggestive, but hilarious.
You would definitely like the Ricky Gervais / Extras - David Bowie - Chubby Little Fat Man (FULL VIDEO)......maybe react to it!! Armstrong is a musician / opera singer / actor / game show host.....very talented

you absolutely MUST do Armstrong &Miller doing Fyffe & Brabbins musical masterpieces!
OMG I’d forgotten about them 😂😂😂
Came here to say exactly this!

When Ben Miller and Rob Brydon appeared side by side on QI it was totally hilarious
Similar line to this is this is the Mitchell and Webb posh dancing sketch. Superb muppetry!

Mousse T. - Horny, Black Box - Ride on Time, and Electric Six - Gay Bar

Both Armstrong and Miller play the piano. Miller also used to be a physics researcher until he went into comedy and acting.
Armstrong &Miller doing Fyffe & Brabbins - Train Song is a must
I suggested that one a little while ago, hopefully he will get round to it eventually!

Yeah, very disappointing. He seems to have settled for pursuing well remunerated mediocrity over art.
He not only plays piano, he has released three albums.
Sadly, he has not (to my knowledge) covered "Gay Bar".

There's an American version of Ghost. They always have to remake British series.

Great show! Can highly recommend the Spring Cotillion compilation video, f*cking hilarious

This looks , just, pre-victorian. By the time of the music hall and into gilbert and sullivan we had changed musically quite a bit
Armstrong and Miller Spring Cotillion is set in a similar period.
He must do those sketches he doesn't know what he's missing with those.
I love Electric Six, great American band, seen them live several times, so funny, they're a bunch of lovable muppets!

Alexander Armstrong is a music graduate. His main instrument is the oboe.
Alexander Armstr9ng has released albums of music and is hugely talented not just a comedian
You should see The bus replacement sketch by Armstrong and Miller, or the gas man by Harry Enfield
Have you watched any of the priceless artifacts yet?
Oh yes!!!
Try out Spring Cotillion!
I wonder was this a sequel to those time traveller sketches.

My favourite A&M sketch. Sometimes I catch myself humming GayBar and burst into laughter because of this sketch. 😂
"...A _very_ rrrrum affair..."
Right after I mentioned it on the Hitler video! 🤣 Knew you'd enjoy this! 😀
Who else was reminded of Bob Blackman singing "Mule Train"? 🙂
It was set in the Victorian era, well known of their stuffiness and Christian values.
It is a crime against humanity that you haven't seen rabbits and fyffe
Gonna have Gay Bar stuck in my head for the rest of the day now.
