    the writers of this show really pissed me off because they could have developed Ryder storyline more closely and they only lightly brushed the subject. sure, they made it a little more emotional and gave it a little depth but they could have dug deeper instead of just doing one scene with dyslexia and it seems that they mentioned that Sam was dyslexic a few times. I like this show but it lacked continuity.

    • @lucreziabenelli4521
      @lucreziabenelli4521 4 роки тому +22

      Hannah Marie I totally agree. As someone who has a learning disability, it’s really important to see characters who are like you and there could have been so many plot lines about it, especially in a tv show about high school

    • @woodlandfaerie0044
      @woodlandfaerie0044 4 роки тому +24

      I know...I felt sometimes Glee would touch upon subjects just to get credit for “bringing awareness” to them, but wouldn’t dig that deep. Same with eating disorders. One emotional plot line, a positive, universal message for teens to soak in and then they move on. Oh well, I still like the show :)

    • @naf10198
      @naf10198 4 роки тому +7

      @Hannah Marie I completely agree. People have praised Glee for "bringing a new perspective" to "diverse communities", but Glee really only makes background characters stereotypes and tells the audience how they can fit in to become like the "normal" (white, heterosexual) main cast. I hate how they nudge in stereotypes without even noticing it, like how Brittany, the only bisexual character is dumb, or how Ryder and Finn ARE SAYING THAT HE IS STUPID BECAUSE HE IS DYSLEXIC!

    • @sophiephillips7961
      @sophiephillips7961 3 роки тому

    Dyslexic children aren't stupid but they're thinking is really unique because it's different. I adore it actually. It's something really special. If a person doesn't do things that others do or be like others are like doesn't mean that they're stupid but special. Just because it isn't normal, people think that it's something bad.

    i always found it weird its such a big deal in america, in holland there's usually more kids with dyslexia in a class then without. nobody gives a shit. its normal. they get extra help and a half our longer to take exams, even an hour extra with finals.

    • @OmaOmaO

      It's a little embarrassing because the educational system is kinda fucked. the whole "judging a fish on its ability to climb" thing is heavily applied lol. In America, teachers don't get paid much so they don't really help the kids more than they have to. Also, it's really not that big of a deal here either. the show just made it seem worse than it is. .

      Actually there is something you can do about it,no you can't fix it or make it go away but you can harness it and create things wether you're drawing,painting,sculpting,cooking and or building a project our brains might be wired differently somethings come naturally to us when my woodshop teacher found out that it was my first time taking that class he was genuinely surprised because it all seemed to come naturally to me so piece of advice use it don't push it aside because it's an artistic gift not a disability.

    I get how he feels. As a kid I thought I was stupid. Then I was diagnosed with ADHD. But even after that I felt different. I was still not as fast as my classmates even with the medication, but I also felt like everyone around me was in on secrets I didn’t understand, that how could everyone else do and understand things that I couldn’t. Why is stuff so much easier. How is everyone so “mature” yet I still felt like a small child. Then I was diagnosed with autism.
    Even today I am not where I wanted to be in life career and relationship wise. I just have to keep reminding myself that I am better off then most people with my disabilities and that everyone gets there at their own rate

    I have dyslexia and it's not a bad thing it just might make school harder for me. Not because I'm dumb just because my brain works differently. I remember when I got diagnosed they told my teachers to put me in all the higher level groups in school because I have the mental ability but it's harder for me to show it. for example if u asked me a question I may know the answer to the question but then if u ask me to write the answer or put it into words I might struggle.
    Although, there are different types of dyslexia some with numbers some with words it just depends how your brain works.

    Everyone always says that this stuff that they use to test students Is stupid but they dont realize how much it actually helps the student being tested. When i was in high school (Recently graduated) they did these tests on me the first time in freshman year and they found I had a hearing, learning and Reading comprehension problem with hearing i had to have everything repeated sometimes Tests, Math problems and projects. With the reading comprehension problem it was troubling too because it was hard for me to read independent and outloud and was also hard to go at a fast pace with my reading, but after I started sophomore year I didnt have a problem with reading anymore and I can read at a faster speed than some of my classmates and my friends. And for Learning comprehension It was hard for me to try and stay focus in class or on assignments and had to have help alot, but eventually i got through it. These test really help many many students and I'm very glad that these helped me in school.

    I'm dyslexic but I don't get helped at school because I've moved school so I have to be tested again which is my 4th time. It took my mum 11 years to get me tested yet she has asked for me to be tested since my first day of school (She works in psychology and has dyslexia her self so she knew the symptoms). This was a really bad example even though I get what their trying to do.

    Dyslexia is nothing to b ashamed about there are plenty of famous genius that are dyslexic. My brother got diagnosed at 18 when he started university he got really good grades throughout his school life. He hasn’t let it stop him, doing what he loves. I’ve also taught someone who had dyslexia how to draw and helped her understand the condition, plus found ways to help her she was 10

    Wow, Ryder went through so much, being molested at a young age and being dyslexic. It sucks that Blake Jenner went down the path he did (abusing his ex-wife) because he has so much potential as an actor and singer and he portrayed his character so beautifully😥

    I have dyscalculia and wasn’t diagnosed until adulthood. Struggled immensely with math to the point where my teachers would get frustrated and I would cry. It’s even worse when you aren’t diagnosed with it because you think you are stupid. I get the emotion in this scene.

    I don’t have dyslexia, but I have trouble with math, and have always been in a different math class the everyone else and I can move up to my grade level in math and stupid and embarrassed just like Ryder so this really hit deep for me . I’m good at every other subject , and not math and I don’t know what’s wrong . My dad works for his own medicine company and is good with math and I feel like he’s disappointed in me and probably thinks I’m an idiot for a daughter. After I found out I was bad at math , I had to work with a “ special “teacher for it and it made me feel like an outsider like, I wasn’t a normal kid .

    I have asperger, a form of autism only to social skill as there r different kinds and never knew it until I was in my senior year in 2007. I remember the tests the doctors did was resting on a bed with wires to examine my brainwaves, and the next day was an MRI that played 95's Casper inside, but the picture was flipped (characters supposed to go right would go left) and a buzzing sound that interrupted the movie. That happed in 3rd grade when I was 8. My parents told me in the late half of the semester, after I turned 18, couple months before graduation.

    As someone with ADHD, it's so painful to see other neurodivergent people go through this. My mom has a Ph.D and two masters and my dad has two masters degrees too. Growing up I felt so stupid. I didn't get diagnosed until highschool too but by then most the damage was done. When I got my diagnosis I was relieved yet so angry. I was a gifted kid burnout who burned out in middle school and was told about all the "potential" I had. Or how I just needed to apply myself and I could do amazing things. Then all of a sudden being told that my issue was a neurodivergency just pissed me off. Because I felt so mad that the world was so unfair and that it wasn't even something that I could originally control. I really wished they dug deeper into this storyline especially since Sam had dyslexia too. I know it would've helped many other neurodivergent kids a lot growing up.
