thank you for upload - first heard this session on the Friday rock show which I used to record each week. I was exploring all types of rock and progressive music back then in the early 80's and Tommy Vance put onto some fantastic bands like Van Der Graaf. this really brings back memories of those early exploring days of a 14 year old kid finding amazing music for the first time :) anyone else remember 'TV on the radio' ?
TV, or Thomas the Vance, was the voice of the Monsters of Rock at Castle Donington. Great memories from the 80s. Freeman, Peel and Vance were the triumvirate of rock 'n' roll radio. RIP, all, but keep rocking.
Oh, Yes. Tommy used V.D.G.G's version of "Theme One" as background to every Show. Must've alerted more than a few listeners to the existence of the power and originality of Hammill and Company. Alan "Fluff" Freeman was a Van Der Graaf Generator Head too, bootlegging a Paris Show in '75 for his own listening pleasure. Not half, pop pickers! R.I.P Peely, Tommy and Fluff. Men of discernment all. 💜🎵👌
@@maxinemckenzie6076 agreed 100% am loving Spotify and being able to access all this great music and explore many others that were just not available in the 80's due to catalogue deletion and the prohibitive cost of buying the rare records 2nd hand. (or worse buying a copy at a record fair only to find a nasty unseeable grove scratch knowing you had no chance of a refund) UA-cam is a fab source of great music as most is provided by true fans. such a shame I lost all of my old bootlegs years ago cause some of those would have been great uploads to UA-cam.... back to VDGG - have to say that Still Life is still one of my all time faves. :)
The song Still Life is featured in the horror film I Pastueurised My Preganant Wife, one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen.Directed by Ellest Morte.
beyond magnificent................

I used to listen to him quite often. Not as often as Peel though.

The Holy Trinity of Progressive Rock
Van Der Graaf Generator, King Crimson and Gentle Giant
that sounds right.
Exactly my three favourite bands. Absolutely agree.
can?
There are far too many great prog rock bands as good as those three and better to try and narrow it down to just three.
Superb.
