I watch this every time I am missing my Mohawk really want to cut it back soon. Getting this right was the most fun and this was the video that taught me to do it properly.
THANK YOU!!! My brother has severe carpal tunnel in his hands and loves his hair to be spiked up like this but he can't get it right without my help and even then sometimes it doesn't stand up. This technique is freaking perfect. So thank you so much. I didn't even think of blow drying it while I styled it.
yeah. I went to a barber shop when I got my second one cut. And some lady at a salon did my first one. If you own a trimmer and have someone with dexterous hands, I recommend u do do that, but if you need to pay someone to do it, try a barbershop or a salon
I've alternated between special effects and Manic Panic. I tend to use Manic Panic when Special Effects is not available. Also, Walgreens has a brand called "Splat", I used that on my brother's hair and it turned out really well, for like $7 you get everything you need (gloves, bleach, dye)
Just cut my hair into a mohawk last night and thanks to your video it looks really sick, Thanks bro! It gave me the guts to finally do it, now i'm the only one on campus with one haha
i've been growing my hair for over a year, its almost a foot long, next friday im getting a haircut you have just inspired me to get a mohawk, thank you
15 minutes overall. 10 minutes on a good day. play around with different hairsprays and see which works best for you. Just look for things like "mega hold" "ice" and stuff like that.
Your first one where ur hair was orange helped me so much! I've been experimenting with my hawk for a while, and i find its easy to rat it up first before applying spray. I hold it up with the comb like you do, but i use a brush and brush downward, then group it back and apply spray. This helps the final product almost guarantee no gaps.
sometimes come back to this vid for nostalgia sakes lmao, learned how to put my Mohawk up back in my teens. Man how time goes by,, hope you’re doing well bro
yeah man, I saw them at warped tour twice, one time they let me and my friends hang out in their tent to get out of the sun, so we sold some merch for them for like 2 hours. then the next time at warped tour my buddy's backpack got destroyed and so they let us put all our stuff over by their setup so it wouldnt get jacked. They're definitely the most personal band I've met, they've really done a lot to make a connection with their fans
If you're talking about chaser yeah they were coming through florida and were gonna stay at my parents house back in 2006 I was just a baby I'm 13 now but 14 in August just got my 1st mohawk and this video helped so much
It was someone else's question, but I'm glad they asked (TheClownRampage). I have attempted to used manic panic, and it never works for me. I tried blow drying once, but I only did that for a few minutes. Your hair is really nice in this video.
Ah, I get what you're saying. I prefer to keep it pretty straight back there. That way it doesnt get caught on my collar or hood or something. Also, I don't have my mohawk anymore. I needed to have a job for a few months so I shaved it off back in April. Right now my hair is only an inch or so. But I'm planning on getting a mohawk again within a few months.
You can see my technique at about 4:22 in the video. Once I have it all up, I go back and hit the section with some more hairspray so I can run a comb through it again. I pull a little hair from the thicker sections and hold it all together with the comb and blowdry it again.
My hair unfortunately is too thick for that and it stands up on its own. Which means if I fuck up once, there is no going back unless I wanna start all over. So I just went with a thick wide mohawk. Now I don't get gaps at all anymore, but it's no longer a traditional punk styled mohawk anymore, idk what to call it. 😂 it's somewhere between a mohawk and a deathawk.
Special Effects dye holds up waaay better than Manic Panic. Better color selection too. But... Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. My son begged to get a mohawk and this video has been very helpful.
last time they came to Reno, Mike made sure the show was all ages even though they would take a pay cut just so i could go see them again, then afterwards we went to hang out in downtown reno all night, right after the show me, mike and cameron went out to the Chaser tour van to listen to the new cd and it was AMAZING, i really liked the song with Jason DeVore from Authority Zero doing vocals
@TheStoner33 I was pretty much the same way back in highschool, did my hair every day and got it down to a science, I'd be in and out of the bathroom in 5-15 minutes depending on how my morning was going
@TheClownRampage bleach your hair as light as possible. Afterwards, when you're doing the actual dye, if you have a semi permanent dye like Special Effects, Splat!, or Manic Panic, leave the dye in for as long as possible, comb it through your hair to get it everywhere and blowdry it to "bake" the color in. I normally would do about 2 hours total of leaving the dye in and blowdry for about 30 minutes immediately after I set the dye.
@magic9516 The songs are "No hope" and "kids these days" both by the band Chaser Its just regular old punk. If you want to be really technical about it, its Southern California Melodic Skatepunk.
yes, if you use eggwhites work really well as a hair gel. So does mayonaise (which is mainly egg whites). I wouldn't recommend it, it probably smells bad.
I just got my hair cut for a mohawk and can't wait to put it up for the first time. This really helped, thanks. Sadly, I can only put i up on the weekends, school forbids 'upright' mohawks. :c
if you have problems keepin it up for the whole day, you can keep the ends straight with got2bglued and got2b freeze spray is a good alternative for the aquanet
Try doing the one side of the hawk all the way along and leaving the other side, bits will fall down but leave them, then fix it up. it makes the fan so much easier and looks better.
yeah, manic panic doesnt work quite as well either. But I get my hairspray at Long's drugstores. I think now they are all becoming CVS drugstores. You can find it there for pretty cheap. Also, if you want to, you can find it at walmart. Most grocery stores also supply the hairspray.
yes, if you want the color to be noticeable, bleach your hair beforehand (I recommend a few days in advance, the color doesnt seem to last as long when U dye immediately after bleach) The lighter you bleach your hair, the brighter and more vibrant the dye will be.
@jesselakerr the more spikes you do, the easier it'll be. One time I did 4 spikes out of my whole mohawk and it was a pain to get up. I did a whole head of liberty spikes a few times and I found the more spikes (so the thinner u make them) the easier it is to put them up
Thanks man. and yeah, chicken eggs, like breakfast. You take out the yolk (yellow part) and just use the clear stuff, it works like gel and gets hard as a rock (but I've heard it stinks like crazy)
@PancreaticExplosion That's what I thought, but I drove a small Honda Civic and I'm 6 feet tall. So with the mohawk I was over 6'9'' at one point. You just have to lean the seat back and scoot it up and find an adjustment to get it to work.
I just cut my sides and I have an 8 inch mohawk, pretty much same as yours actually except the tips are black. It's so hard to get it up and straight, mostly when you suck with hair. I use some hairspray and then a straightener though. Lots of holes in it, looks more like a liberty spikes than anything else. Gonna try your method see if it works better. X)
@drumXskate I haven't had a mohawk for about a year. But last time I had one it was blue and blonde before I cut it off. I've done pretty much every color possible. Since hairdye fades so much, I've had multiple shades and colors. I've had all the primary and secondary colors (blue, red, yellow, orange, green, purple) as well as black, pink, brown, mixed colors, inbetween colors and all sorts.
I used to do this every day, some days I would not shower from the previous day so it would stay up for a couple days in a row. I think the thick vs thin hair thing all depends on how wide your mohawk is. If you have thick hair, I'd cut the mohawk a little thinner, if you have thin hair you might need a little wider of a mohawk. If you are having problems you may need to swtich shampoos, stop using conditioner or try different hairsprays
@BonkersBonker try cutting the mohawk thinner, like the width of it. I've found that a thinner mohawk is easier to put up but it doesn't look as full, but if you have thick hair you can probably cut it much thinner than mine and it'll be a lot easier to put up.
Very nice, and thanks for posting. Did you color your hair a week before you start using that spray. I want to color my hair and do a mohawk, but I'm afriad of hair breakage/falling out if I use spray or got 2 b gel soon after coloring my hair?? so, what would you suggest?
@PancreaticExplosion Also If you are worried about losing your feminine look, there are a few things you can do. 1. Dye it a girly color (pink, aqua, purple) 2. Keep the bangs, google search "chelsea mohawk" and see some options for a feminine mohawk. 3. If you have a thin or angluar face with pronounced features it is really easy to still look feminine with short hair, if you have a round face it'll be more difficult to make it look good.
@MrFoxAidan practice and patience. I had my mohawk for 2 years before this video was filmed, I had MANY failed attempts at putting it up before I could do it like this.
nicely done. how long will this hold up? is it an all day kind of style or just a couple of hours? and do you use a heat setting on your blow dryer or the cool setting? thnx :)
@KillTheConqueror Back when I first had a mohawk I had it up 5-6 days a week. Any amount of bleaching, dying, hairspray and blowdrying will damage your hair. And this is a lot of each of those so it does damage your hair if you don't take care of it. But on days u don't put it up, condition it and let it air dry. I always got compliments on how soft my hair was, so it couldnt have been THAT damaged.
Thanks man, you really helped me a lot when my mohawk grew taller. But for the shortie mohawks out there, try using Gorilla snott. Fast drying, ultra sturdy and no crust and shit.
sick, thats a good length. If you want it to fan nicely and be easy to work with, give it a little trim, like take off half an inch, and keep trimming it every couple months to keep it the length that you want it to be.
eh, part of my uniform was to ALWAYS wear a hat. and even with that they wouldnt let me have a mohawk, didnt matter what color it was, if i grew the sides out to like an inch or anything. oh well, I'm trying to secure a mohawk/dyed hair friendly job right now.
Cool, I always wanted to do turquoise but I could never find any good dye. and the first song is called "Kids These Days" by a band named Chaser. Check out the video description to get a link to their myspace.
@MilitiaMackMusic Stores like Hot Topic used to carry it. Last time I bought it I picked it up at a flea market for $5 a bottle, normally its like $15. You can probably find it on the internet, I heard amazon carries it.
@PancreaticExplosion I didnt have problems fitting into cars until my hair exceeded 6 inches. At 6+ inches you need to tilt the chair back and tilt your head to fit in.
try and put as much hairspray on the base as you can. Then pull it tight and run a comb through it and try and get as much hairspray inside the base as you can. Blowdry it as much as you can until its solid, then repeat until it stands up. Just make sure its completely dry before you add more hairspray
@Blazzicc Sometimes u can find good permanent dyes in cool colors at beauty supply stores. Its always hit and miss, they sometimes have good colors sometimes they don't, I got a good red color at Sally's
Spreading it out is creating gaps. And its all in your style of hawk. I like mine to be straight up from my forehead, some people lean theirs forward, some people even spread it out all the way untill it rests on their forhead and neck. Its all preference, I just prefer to keep it out of my face and collar
most people just assume gel is the strongest product to use. But even though its strong, it is really heavy. So hairspray is a lot stronger for its weight.
@Xagur Nope, I just use a lot of it to soak the area I want to repair. If you soak it with hairspray and either massage it in or comb it, it'll soften up the hair temporarily without effecting the rigidity in the long run. If you already have a ton of hairspray in your hair and you don't want to use more, you can use a little spray bottle full of water and spray a little water to the area, fix it, then blowdry it.
ha, thanks. hmmm, thats interesting, i'll have to try trimming my hair..its pretty tall once i have it up. yeah, they tell me glue is really bad for my hair...i dont really care about that part, i can always just shave it off. but with glue in i can keep it up for about two weeks even while showering..but i will try it with just spray and see how it works. how long have you had a mo hawk?
The store I've seen it in was hot topic, but it has been a long time since they've had it. Your best bet would be to shop online for it. Shipping on 1 item sucks, so I'd get a few colors at once.
awesome mohawk. i use pillarbox red too, i love the color. although i dont have a mohawk, but i absolutely love how it looks. besides, i wouldn't look very good with a mohawk.
naw, all-out liberty spikes seems like too much work for me. But I'm looking into stuff like a tri-hawk, punkabilly/psychobilly haircuts, greaser pompadour. Leopard print dye jobs, stripes and spots. I'm trying to find a way to get all of those to happen within the next year.
@unseanclearness Special Effects: Nuclear Red. Also there are some salon brands that do a "permanent "bright red. I dont have any brands on hand but I've worked with a few and they seem to work better than semi-[ermanent dye but it still fades eventually
i tried the hairspray method 3 times, 1st time came out really good and the last 2 times came out like crap lols the back is really hard to do and hairspray drys really fast especially g2b freeze spray nice vid!
@firunormal2 I know you can purchase Aquanet on Amazon. You should try that. But also I've had success with V05 Max Hold. I have also heard Rave x4 works well. Other brands that I've seen used are Aussie and Tressame. But I'm sure those are more expensive than Got2B
@Canadianhell If I get my hands on supplies I'll do that, also thinking of just playing with hairspray and seeing what I can come up with. Also gonna be showing you all how to do a pomp
yep. Also tribes down in South America and Brazil had mohawk like hairstyles. I think its funny how many people assume people consider themselves punks just because of their stripe of hair.
I hate when my arms start getting tired half way through but, I can't stop
This dude's channel is literally American highschool in 2005
Lancur spot on, haha
American high school in 2007, haha. Its such a time capsule
i assume lmao
Don’t associate this cool shit with america🤮🤮🤮you make me want to kill myself🤮🤮🤮
Hahahaaaa wooooord I was in 10th grade!!!!!
I watch this every time I am missing my Mohawk really want to cut it back soon. Getting this right was the most fun and this was the video that taught me to do it properly.

Go check out their myspace, find their music on itunes
Just wanna say thank you, I needed reference on how to draw an unspiked mowhawk.

"Kids These Days" and "No Hope" by Chaser
find it on itunes, the songs are from a split record they did for Felony Records
Well done, it looks good!
just got aqua net spray today and I have to say this is the best one yet. it has the best veiw out of the first two. Thanks!
It was someone else's question, but I'm glad they asked (TheClownRampage). I have attempted to used manic panic, and it never works for me. I tried blow drying once, but I only did that for a few minutes. Your hair is really nice in this video.
Yeah, Manic Panic isnt really my favorite dye. I've used a red and a blue from them and they didnt turn out as good as special effects
Im doing this for my daughter on her crazy hair day. Love it man
Ah, I get what you're saying.
Bro how do you get the gaps in your mohawk out its so annoying thanks
You can see my technique at about 4:22 in the video. Once I have it all up, I go back and hit the section with some more hairspray so I can run a comb through it again. I pull a little hair from the thicker sections and hold it all together with the comb and blowdry it again.

Tyler Brown get long hair
DJ Danger Longer hair isn't gana help. More hair is gana help better.
Special Effects dye holds up waaay better than Manic Panic. Better color selection too.
But... Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. My son begged to get a mohawk and this video has been very helpful.
Thank you for this video. I have 3 boys and was having trouble with the Mohawks.❤🤘
last time they came to Reno, Mike made sure the show was all ages even though they would take a pay cut just so i could go see them again, then afterwards we went to hang out in downtown reno all night, right after the show me, mike and cameron went out to the Chaser tour van to listen to the new cd and it was AMAZING, i really liked the song with Jason DeVore from Authority Zero doing vocals
out of all the mohawk vids ive seen yours is the one that helped me ...now i put up my hawk every weekend thanks!!=)
@TheStoner33 I was pretty much the same way back in highschool, did my hair every day and got it down to a science, I'd be in and out of the bathroom in 5-15 minutes depending on how my morning was going
I like the roots on your hawk, looks good with the colour you've got.
@TheClownRampage bleach your hair as light as possible. yes, if you use eggwhites work really well as a hair gel.
Most grocery stores also supply the hairspray.
yes, if you want the color to be noticeable, bleach your hair beforehand (I recommend a few days in advance, the color doesnt seem to last as long when U dye immediately after bleach)
The lighter you bleach your hair, the brighter and more vibrant the dye will be.
@Thesaint411 it takes out any buildup or grease you have in your hair, it makes it really light and works with the hairspray well.
@jesselakerr the more spikes you do, the easier it'll be. One time I did 4 spikes out of my whole mohawk and it was a pain to get up. I did a whole head of liberty spikes a few times and I found the more spikes (so the thinner u make them) the easier it is to put them up

and yeah, chicken eggs, like breakfast.

I think the thick vs thin hair thing all depends on how wide your mohawk is. If you have thick hair, I'd cut the mohawk a little thinner, if you have thin hair you might need a little wider of a mohawk.
If you are having problems you may need to swtich shampoos, stop using conditioner or try different hairsprays
the original hawk
@BonkersBonker
try cutting the mohawk thinner, like the width of it. I've found that a thinner mohawk is easier to put up but it doesn't look as full, but if you have thick hair you can probably cut it much thinner than mine and it'll be a lot easier to put up.
Very nice, and thanks for posting. Did you color your hair a week before you start using that spray. I want to color my hair and do a mohawk, but I'm afriad of hair breakage/falling out if I use spray or got 2 b gel soon after coloring my hair?? so, what would you suggest?
depends like 1 to two days depends how much you do. And how you sleep on it
@PancreaticExplosion Also If you are worried about losing your feminine look, there are a few things you can do.
1. Dye it a girly color (pink, aqua, purple)
2. Keep the bangs, google search "chelsea mohawk" and see some options for a feminine mohawk.
3. If you have a thin or angluar face with pronounced features it is really easy to still look feminine with short hair, if you have a round face it'll be more difficult to make it look good.
haha, yeah. I actually did a version of that for halloween. I wore spartan armor, a cape, and a sword and had my mohawk up instead of a helmet :D
@MrFoxAidan practice and patience. I had my mohawk for 2 years before this video was filmed, I had MANY failed attempts at putting it up before I could do it like this.
yep. What she said. You need to spray and blowdry every time after you touch your hair with a comb
@VannaLYL it stands straight up all day as long as there isnt wind. If it gets pushed over it pops right back up.
nicely done. how long will this hold up? is it an all day kind of style or just a couple of hours? and do you use a heat setting on your blow dryer or the cool setting? thnx :)
@KillTheConqueror Back when I first had a mohawk I had it up 5-6 days a week.

But on days u don't put it up, condition it and let it air dry. I always got compliments on how soft my hair was, so it couldnt have been THAT damaged.
I'm glad I found this lol ive always wanted a Mohawk sense I was a lilltle girl and I finally am aloud years later
Thanks man, you really helped me a lot when my mohawk grew taller. But for the shortie mohawks out there, try using Gorilla snott. Fast drying, ultra sturdy and no crust and shit.
if you can't get hairspray to work, try looking into knox gelatin. I havent ever used it, but there are many online tutorials on how to use it
has anyone ever told you look kinda of like tom waits when he was young lol its a compliment. my friend loves you
sick, thats a good length. If you want it to fan nicely and be easy to work with, give it a little trim, like take off half an inch, and keep trimming it every couple months to keep it the length that you want it to be.
@MohawkPUNKattack read the description
"kids these days" and "no hope"
eh, part of my uniform was to ALWAYS wear a hat. and even with that they wouldnt let me have a mohawk, didnt matter what color it was, if i grew the sides out to like an inch or anything.
oh well, I'm trying to secure a mohawk/dyed hair friendly job right now.
I'm here with ya bro, NYC PuNK stat here Ahaaaa!!!!!!
Cool, I always wanted to do turquoise but I could never find any good dye.
and the first song is called "Kids These Days" by a band named Chaser. Check out the video description to get a link to their myspace.
The original Hawk
@MilitiaMackMusic Stores like Hot Topic used to carry it. Last time I bought it I picked it up at a flea market for $5 a bottle, normally its like $15. You can probably find it on the internet, I heard amazon carries it.
@PancreaticExplosion I didnt have problems fitting into cars until my hair exceeded 6 inches. At 6+ inches you need to tilt the chair back and tilt your head to fit in.
@ArnoldSaysRelax No. It'll stay up through almost anything but rain. It'll blow over in the wind, but once u leave the wind it'll pop right back up
try and put as much hairspray on the base as you can. Then pull it tight and run a comb through it and try and get as much hairspray inside the base as you can. Blowdry it as much as you can until its solid, then repeat until it stands up. Just make sure its completely dry before you add more hairspray
I have curly hair, when i had a mohawk i had to straighten it, never had a problem with it. you can bleach and dye it too
@Blazzicc Sometimes u can find good permanent dyes in cool colors at beauty supply stores.
@hectorsnowboards it is the same width the whole way but it is 1 inch longer on top than in the back
comb it out in the back more when you blow dry it. You'll have less gaps. It always works with mine.
It took me about a year of trial and error before I finally could get my hair the way I wanted it.
most people just assume gel is the strongest product to use. But even though its strong, it is really heavy. So hairspray is a lot stronger for its weight.
@Xagur Nope, I just use a lot of it to soak the area I want to repair. thinking something along the lines of a pompadour. but with shaved sides. I have a few ideas that I'd like to play around with
Red was by far my favorite, Orange is fun, Blue was cool. I basically didnt like green. Everything else is pretty rad.
do you need to do this every day, or can you keep it in your hair for a day of 2?
great vid ;) keep going like this man ^^
Grtz
Wow, absolutely fabulous mohawk, dude! Though I must say I also rather liked your hairstyle when it was floppy at the beginning.
Knox works pretty well too and you dont need as much like you would hairspray.
punky color is pretty cool. I think I used that blue the very first time I dyed my hair. It lasted the longest out of any blue I'd used
ha, thanks.
hmmm, thats interesting, i'll have to try trimming my hair..its pretty tall once i have it up.
yeah, they tell me glue is really bad for my hair...i dont really care about that part, i can always just shave it off. but with glue in i can keep it up for about two weeks even while showering..but i will try it with just spray and see how it works.
how long have you had a mo hawk?
@unseanclearness Special Effects: Nuclear Red.
Also there are some salon brands that do a "permanent "bright red. I dont have any brands on hand but I've worked with a few and they seem to work better than semi-[ermanent dye but it still fades eventually
i tried the hairspray method 3 times, 1st time came out really good and the last 2 times came out like crap lols the back is really hard to do and hairspray drys really fast especially g2b freeze spray nice vid!
your hair is amazing!!
I find a little melted soap works well when finished off with a hairspary overcoat...
@elcuellorojo what do u mean "got 2 be glued" like actually put glue in gell and mix? cuz i need strong gell...
@firunormal2 I know you can purchase Aquanet on Amazon. You should try that. But also I've had success with V05 Max Hold. I have also heard Rave x4 works well.
Other brands that I've seen used are Aussie and Tressame. But I'm sure those are more expensive than Got2B
@Canadianhell
If I get my hands on supplies I'll do that, also thinking of just playing with hairspray and seeing what I can come up with. Also gonna be showing you all how to do a pomp
Did you ever just slick that hawk back? slicked-back is my fav mohawk look!
Yeah, in the later years I didn’t put it up as much and just slicked it back. Like a greaser horse mullet
@@Makeshiftmotorsports smooth;)
im watching this, not for a mohawk but for the full head of hair version
knox is very strong but its really hard to work with. Also it wreaks havoc on your hair.
yep. Also tribes down in South America and Brazil had mohawk like hairstyles. I think its funny how many people assume people consider themselves punks just because of their stripe of hair.
i've got to straighten my hawk and trim it a little its very short, atm but it looks pretty sweet
