When I was younger, we used to go backpacking. We didn't carry a tent. We chose light aluminum chairs instead for comfort. We slept on the ground by the campfire. At 3am, the sky is fantastic. Yes, shooting stars go all the way across the sky. You can see the edge of the milky way. I'm 73 now and can't sleep on the ground anymore. But I just bought a 2016 Nissan Rogue and am exploring inside the car for places to put things and how to make a bed in back. I will go alone when the weather warms. It's been a long time! Your tips about what to bring and be safe are helping me plan my first solo trip, which might be in my driveway just in case! 🤗
I grew up with homebody parents, so I’m an indoorsy person, with no clue how to camp. But now we’re trying to make some memories for our energetic boys before they’re grown, and I’m intimidated and overwhelmed by all the effort a camping trip will take. You pointing out that you’re getting away, disconnecting, experiencing nature, is helping me to remember that this is how memories are made (in between the chaos). Thank you for this!
The enthusiasm when she said she saw 7 shooting stars melted me, that's so sweet 💖 also, thanks to her and all of you, me and my boyfriend are planning starting camping and we're learning so much 🙂💖
I’m thinking on going to camp alone in a few days. I have never gone alone but I really need time off everything and everyone. I’m a little scared cause I’m going alone. I like this tips thank you.
Great tips! Just to add up to that; Always have a list of things you will need and check your list as you pack to comfirm all that you need for that trip are packed in before leaving your house. Thank you..
Thanks so much for these videos. I’m going to begin car camping very soon, so I know nothing (I won’t be going alone), and this video especially has informed of a few things I would not have thought of. 👍🏻👏🏻
I love camping but only end up getting out there a few times a year. We went cabin camping for my fiancé’s birthday last weekend and it was so nice. It reminded me how much I love it. Once it gets warmer around here I want to go tent camping.
This is one of my goals I’ve been hiking lately and venturing into new things now I’m starting to work my self into camping so I could accomplish my longtime goal to see the night sky.
I grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania. Being able to see so many stars and my shadow in the light of the full moon. Last week my second wife and I went camping in East Texas for our honeymoon and it was fantastic. My luxury item was coffee. Though we had a similar stove from a different brand I brought along my Jetboil stove since it was far faster for boiling water. I think I have the same dripper - the X-Brew. Last year I did a two week motorcycle camping trip. A portion was not camping - attending a conference in St Louis - but the rest was. So many wonderful memories. My last stop was New Orleans to visit friends. I was coming from the mountains of North Carolina and stopped at a campground in Mississippi. The low was to be 68F and no chance of precipitation so I didn't put the rain fly on. I drifted off to sleep with a view of the stars and seeing some shooting stars.
Thank you so much for the tips. Number 10 hit home for me. So true. I have been car camping / hammock camping for three years now. Love the hammock. Rain, shine, sleet, hail, snow. The hammock is so convenient. All you need is two trees. Wind is my nemesis right now...LOL Thanks again
I keep a Rand McNally map of the US in my car along with a pan analog compass. Lesson learned from getting lost in the Sierras with my parents as a teen in the 80’s. The Milky Way was gorgeous, but we were cold and completely lost 😂. I always have a “just in case” container for backup water filtration, backup fire starting, backup cooking that doesn’t require propane/butane, emergency food, wilderness first aid book, chemical light sticks, and a small trauma kit.
Good tips. Every time I see you relaxing camping I am so jealous. Camping with a toddler is MUCH more stressful and less relaxing. It’s a whole new ballgame of food and activity planning.
Thank you so much, love watching all your videos. I am a beginner with my grandaughter and have learned a lot from watching you. Have even bought some of your suggestions. Thank you once again.
Hey, I'm a backcountry camping type of guy and I came across your channel and I watch a couple of your videos, I like it. I Subscribed. It is funny when you mentioned the mapquest in this video. I used mapquest back in the day, now it is different. More power to you!
The stars . . .! Once, I helped a family of friends move to Phoenix. The night sky was so clear, I decided to take my sleeping bag and sleep in their new backyard. Shooting stars galore! I stopped counting after 20! What a night! What a show!
Tip: use a pool floaty as a nice air mattress for a tent. It's best if you buy a quality one and test it out before you use it. That's what I used for my sons and I in out tents. They even have a blow up pillow on most models. Cover it with a blanket or stick it inside of a extra sleeping bag.
Love the stars tip. Stopped at night deep in the adirondacks on our way to Montreal a year ago and caught the Orionid meteor shower and saw the full milky way for the first time in my life. Wish I could get to a place like that quickly more often! Too much light pollution in my area unfortunately 😞
Great video. I have liked and subbed. I just made a video on an overnight car camping trip with my son in New Zealand so I wanted to see what others were doing. Very helpful thanks!
Probably the best part is turning the phone to Airplane Mode (saving battery life) when you leave civilization, and planning to be able to go camping during meteor showers (Perseids) is especially rewarding. Board games have been the top luxury item in recent years.
Actually, some pretty good tips on camping in general not just car camping or RVing. I think one of, if not the most important, tip is to know your location. It's really easy to get lost in the wild. To that I would add learning some basic survival skills - just in case. Other than that, my best camping tip would be to get out there and enjoy what nature has to offer!
@@amanda.outside Excellent.....even though I'm not a beginner and am a experienced backpacker, you are smart have a soft voice that is caring ! I'm from the same area as you, found you from dehydrating your own backpacking food, which was awesome and I want to support your channel ! Peace
Great tip but I have question I hate sleeping on the ground with my air mattress how can I raise it up from the ground and not to experience and easy to store and bring to camp ground thank you
my husband and i still use your tip about keeping everything we take regularly in big bins. your tip about luxury items is spot on. i just took a trip to Sooke BC and was so strict about only taking a carryon. my girlfriend brought all these shoes, a revlon blowdry brush, all these cute outfits, and there i was rewearing the same leggings with my frizzy hair 🙄 i was so annoyed with myself. sometimes as an adult, it’s nice to have nice hair and some cute outfits
Definitely make a checklist before you leave - I failed to do this last week and forgot my medicine, which I can NOT skip doses. So after 2 hours at camp I realized my oversight & had to turn around and come back home. I was devastated!
You covered the items really well including the sights at night. The last time Haley's Comet came by I was way back in the Okefenokee Swamp canoe camping and watching it. For the most part it's Ultralight Backpacking while car camping offers me some luxuries. My luxury item when car camping is naturally the car and it's benefits since I'm not walking. The 2nd item is a well stocked Ice Chest and extra water.
Great list; better video!!!!! Me and mine wish you and yours all things great and good!!! Take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠🐩🖖✝️👍
I plan my trips on Google maps and save them. That way, when I don't have a cell signal or internet, it still works. Recently, before the return trip, I decided to get gas. Since I had already checked the route for gas stations and restaurants, and marked them, I easily found the gas station I wanted before the drive home. I hope this helps someone. Jon in rural BC, Canada
For this video I used my Sony a6400 camera and a Sony FE 20mm F1.8 G. For a lot of my vlogs, I use my GoPro because it's really easy to film with. I started linking to all the gear I use in the description of my videos if you want the full list. Thanks for watching!
I’ll make it easy for y’all just get your food bag, pad , and all the stuff you need throw it in the back of your 4 runner, don’t forget your 9 and a rack of coors then just drive towards the mountains and find a cool spot easy as that
I car camped back in the 80's & 90's. I'd vacation by myself and take selfies. Friends and others would luagh at me. ...But it looks like I started two trends.....You are all welcome!!!!
I use to love it. I would go with my dad, my brother, and some other family members. We have our own campsite we set up on our land behind my dads house. But here recently everyone is always on their phones and not socializing anymore. I quit going because of it, and everyone just wants to drink and get so drunk they can’t function properly.
#3a Tell someone your itinerary - Do this in person/on the phone. Do NOT post it on social media before you leave, or during your trip. Unfortunately there are some people who might see your post and take advantage to go to your house while you're not home. Post about your adventures after you get home.
Here's the question. HOW do you car camp? What type of site do you pay for? Are you trying to do this for free? I'm not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers!
Presenter said that she made the video to make camping easier and less intimidating for beginners. So, camping requires long-term planning and reservations, permits, research into local regulations to determine food and other restrictions, etc. Holy crap. Seems pretty intimidating. No wonder I'm not a camper.
??? ⛺️ For those who are visiting from Mars, here is what seems to be a (common sense) camping ⛺️ tutorial.. 🙄🙄🙄 something to do while watching the paint peel.🚐✌️🌻⛺️

Love tip #7 "Be mindful of other campers around you." The excitement allows some to forget that the outdoors is a shared space
The enthusiasm when she said she saw 7 shooting stars melted me, that's so sweet 💖 also, thanks to her and all of you, me and my boyfriend are planning starting camping and we're learning so much 🙂💖
I am new to your channel! Wow! I can hear the love for the outdoors in your voice. Truly inspiring!😊
I’m thinking on going to camp alone in a few days. I have never gone alone but I really need time off everything and everyone. I’m a little scared cause I’m going alone. I like this tips thank you.

Great video! I definitely agree with tip number 10 the best part of camping is getting away from people and enjoying the amazing creations in nature!
Thanks so much for these videos.

Your videos always remind me how much I need and want to be outside. Thank you for the inspiration!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
I love your insight on nature and outdoors! Disconnecting is so important!
I cannot wait to get out there this spring and summer!
Your videos are amazing! As a beginner your videos are so extremely helpful, as well as your recipes you make outdoors! Love it! 💛
Fabulous tips ! One of the best things about camping especially if you are a long way from the city lights ..... looking up at the stars❤️
I totally agree!
This is one of my goals I’ve been hiking lately and venturing into new things now I’m starting to work my self into camping so I could accomplish my longtime goal to see the night sky.
The dark starry nights is what got my daughter to agree to go camping. Hands down the best part of camping!
Thank you! Great tips!
Love your videos, you’re a cool chick ! Such great advice, thank you.

Those clear nights sleeping under the stars are just the best!! That trip sounds like it was awesome. Thanks for watching!

You are very informative and passionate about camping. Im going with my family for the first time next week. Thank you
Good tips. Every time I see you relaxing camping I am so jealous. Camping with a toddler is MUCH more stressful and less relaxing. It’s a whole new ballgame of food and activity planning.
Oh yea I bet camping with a toddler can get hectic quick! Good for you for getting out there!
My partner and I wanna go camping for our honeymoon so I’m binging all your videos lol. They’re so helpful! Thank you ☺️
Enjoy watching your channel! Lot's of great tips and beautiful scenery!!
Thank you so much, love watching all your videos. I am a beginner with my grandaughter and have learned a lot from watching you. Have even bought some of your suggestions. Thank you once again.
You're welcome! I'm so glad my videos have been helpful - that's my goal! 😁
I have the sea to Summit coffee pour over also! I love that thing!! I've even brought it backpacking
#10 was the most important essential. Thank you so much!!
Hello Amanda, thank you for sharing your words of wisdom tips. All the best to you Dear. Take care, be safe, have fun and stay healthy. 🤗
Truly helpful. I LOVE the emphasis on disconnecting. Well done.
Loved all the tips! Binge watching all your vids. 🙏🏻

Isn't it incredible!! Unfortunately it's so hard to see near big cities and when the moon is out, but every time I do see it, it feels so special.

The stars are definitely one of my favorite things about camping! Nick and I bring the game Bananagrams a lot when we go camping!
❤ great tips. ❤ This reminds me that I need a hammock.
Organization is key. Love tip #5
the smaller the space, the more organized you have to be

YES! And Nature recognizes that we are out there in need of refreshment and will always give us what we need. Enjoy the Adventures! Thanks..
Thank you!
Great tip but I have question I hate sleeping on the ground with my air mattress how can I raise it up from the ground and not to experience and easy to store and bring to camp ground thank you
Get a camp bed.
Hello Amanda, great tips. Thanks for sharing. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Good information! Thanks!!
Always love your videos. Thank you.

Great video! I just made a video about car camping I did with my son recently. We live in NZ and it was pretty relaxed so just a gold coin donation
Thank you 🙏
Love it! Another great informative video. 😁
Yay! Thank you!
I never would have guessed you were old enough for mapquest! I am so glad those days are gone 🤣

Hi Amanda! I love your videos and your love for nature! Can I ask what camera you used to film this video? It looks great!
For this video I used my Sony a6400 camera and a Sony FE 20mm F1.8 G. For a lot of my vlogs, I use my GoPro because it's really easy to film with. I started linking to all the gear I use in the description of my videos if you want the full list. Thanks for watching!
What camp chairs do you use?
Amanda, you often talk about relaxing and reading your book, so I'm curious--what books do you enjoy reading?
Awesome tips Amanda ☺️☺️
Thanks so much! 😊
Another one is if you bring a 4- wheeler or an ATV please stay on the designated roads or trails or you will ruin it for everyone.
Hi Amanda, quick question what type of bear spray do you use? And where did you get it? Oddly having a hard time finding it for a reasonable price.
Try REI
You don’t still print out mapquest routes to get camp?!
😂😂
Haha I remember printing out maps on map quest😂
I’ll make it easy for y’all just get your food bag, pad , and all the stuff you need throw it in the back of your 4 runner, don’t forget your 9 and a rack of coors then just drive towards the mountains and find a cool spot easy as that
What are shooting stars?
A meteorite.
Download maps beforehand, GPS on phones does not require cell service. Use airplane mode to save battery life where cell service is unavailable
Seriously MAPQUEST 😂😂🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
tell us youre a boomer without telling us your a boomer lol. Whatever works! Real maps are good too for no service areas
#10 FTW - this is why I hike and camp, especially since the plague.
I car camped back in the 80's & 90's. I'd vacation by myself and take selfies. Friends and others would luagh at me. ...But it looks like I started two trends.....You are all welcome!!!!
"I have turned into my mother" ...same girl, saaame
I am a spitting image, mannerisms-wise, of my dad. I was talking to my brother and I sneezed & he said "you even sneeze like dad!" LOL
One of my favorite things about camping is "disconnecting" from technology.
I use to love it. I would go with my dad, my brother, and some other family members. We have our own campsite we set up on our land behind my dads house. But here recently everyone is always on their phones and not socializing anymore. I quit going because of it, and everyone just wants to drink and get so drunk they can’t function properly.
I disconnect at home- too much of it!
Love tip 10 on disconnecting
It's so important! I always feel recharged after a good camping trip!
It's always a rough trip if you run out of food!
Definitely. I always pack a lot of food haha
I thought you were in your mid 20's. But if you used mapquest when driving then I'm guessing that's not the case..
#3a Tell someone your itinerary - Do this in person/on the phone.
Do NOT post it on social media before you leave, or during your trip. Unfortunately there are some people who might see your post and take advantage to go to your house while you're not home.
Post about your adventures after you get home.
step 1: release your inhibitions
step 2: feel the rain on your skin

Lol. People don’t know how to use a map and compass anymore.
but need to!
You need a permit to camp? 😂 I sleep where ever I put my head down
Here's the question. HOW do you car camp? What type of site do you pay for? Are you trying to do this for free? I'm not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers!
💐💐💐💐💐💐
All your "tips" take the fun out of camping.
