2019+ RAV4 OEM Toyota Hitch Install - Increase Your Clearance and Departure Angle!

  • Walkthrough of removing the bumper and installed the OEM Toyota hitch. I uninstalled the Curt hitch in the process. I effectively increased my Clearance by ~3.75" (from 9" to 12.75") and my Departure Angle by ~4.6° (from 15.9° to 20.5°). Disclaimer, this new departure angle isn't considering the exhaust tips. And I'm also rocking Eibach Springs which offer a 1.2" lift.
    I needed to do this to avoid further scraping of my hitch accessories. With the Curt, my extenders for towing were hanging too low and would scrape on dips, even around city areas/parking lots.

    I was going to say this looks terrible... until you put the rubber trim piece on. I was worried, but after all is said and done ended up looking really clean. Nice job dude!

    So after watching this I have decided to buy a toyota OEM hitch. But didn't take off plastic bumper instead I too a small 3/8 ratchet and unbolted the aluminum push beam. This was very hard but I did get it done. Start to finish was about 1 1/2 and that included removing the curt hitch.

    I trimmed the 7way connector plate and it is now no taller than the hitch opening itself when mounted. It was pita cuz I just used pliers and twisting motion but it turned out better as the cutting of the bumper will be almost the same as per the instructions

      did you have and manage to keep the kick sensor?

    • @Nigthtale
      @Nigthtale Рік тому +2

      @@RodrigoRosa I ended up getting the OEM hitch installed by Toyota but I asked them to only do a square hole for the hitch received only and I hid the 7 pin plug behind the bumper, and fixed it with a bolt through the little steel tab that comes with the hitch receiver. When I need the 7-pin harness, I unscrew the bolt and put it back below the bumper through the same hole. Ideally, I would have kept the 7 pin harness inside and let it go through the hatch when needed (which is twice to thrice a year top). Unfortunately, the dealership removed the kick sensor system, but it would be easy to modify to put it back in place. I just never had time to do it in the last two years with the babies to take care of.

    • @RodrigoRosa
      @RodrigoRosa Рік тому +1

      @@Nigthtale Thanks for the info. I ended up doing the installation myself of the hitch and the wiring, managed to keep the kick sensor and everything seems to work. I cut using the template and tried around. I have no experience in this, it took me like 9 hours. About an hour of that was because I forgot to plug back in the kick sensor XD So I think you made a wise choice if you have babies to take care of 😅
