Every time I hear this score, I find it hard to believe that Howard Shore, the guy who played sax for Canadian band Lighthouse, the guy who wore a giant bee suit on Saturday Night Live, the guy who scored Demi Moore's awful "Striptease," could somehow deliver a score this consistently inspired and unbelievably powerful. It's really hard to deliver a symphonic score this powerful and not sound like a John Williams clone. Howard Shore delivered something so completely different from anything happening in Hollywood, and I'll forever be in his debt for putting music to the Professor's words and worlds.
His score for Hugo is great too. I think just like John Williams before Jaws, Shore was waiting for the chance to do something that allowed him to stretch his wings and fly. Such a beautiful score... I both trilogies as one score.
I recently watched the cult horror flick Videodrome. Surprisingly that was Howard Shore too. The person who should really write more scores is Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish. The latest album is stunning.
"As they sang, the hobbit felt the love of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and a jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves...He looked out of the window. The stars were out in a dark sky above the trees. He thought of the jewels of the dwarves shining in dark caverns." The Hobbit, Chapter 1: An Unexpected Party.

I think he would love what Peter Jackson did with the movies. I think he would be a little annoyed that Thorin is not old enough but I think he would get used to it and understand why he did (he did it because he did not want an old man to work so hard), I also think he would like the cartoon in 1977 but in full honesty I think he would love all of the movies.
@@Violetatk my unrequested opinion: I think he'd like the music very very much. As for the films, he wouldn't like certain changes or/and additions but would still enjoy seeing his world come to life..
@@emmaphilo4049 Yes I think he would. You see? We both have our opinion, but we don't swear, I am not saying we are perfect but, we just accept it you know? So thank you once again for not being rude or anything because that is mostly what I se about my love for The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings.
I think overall he would have enjoyed the original trilogy (not so much the hobbit trilogy), but there was something lost to the story in the 3rd film when they returned to a pristine Shire... in the books they returned to a scoured shire to mirror how when soldiers come home from war, sometimes it's not the same home they left.
@@rkat I think Peter Jackson had to sacrifice something, as a film made by a major studio isn't going to accept a six hour run time to fit every nuance in. But he did a wonderful thing with the scene of the four hobbits sitting in the Green Dragon, as the other hobbits there joked and chatted, oblivious to the experiences, pain, and joys that the returning, unsung heroes had lived through with the other heroes of Middle-Earth. It was the plight of the veteran of war, who cannot adequately relate what they have been through, to a non-veteran. The silent looks they all give one another before their toast says it all. I think Tolkien would have understood that scene very well, and thanked Jackson for it.

I can remember as kids, climbing hills While smashing and slicing cactus with wooden swords pretending they were orc's while sounding the tunes of middle earth lol
Goddamnit dude. Stop making me remember when I was a kid! But seriously, I remember when the hobbit first came out on dvd, my friend rented it for his birthday. After watching the movie, we went outside and played as the fellowship. It was absolutely amazing, but now I’m gonna go be sad and nostalgic. Lol
Man I did the same but I grew up on the Canadian shield up north. I would always explore the trees around my house and pretend I was in Fangorn Forest.
We had the old hay bales just taking up room at the back of our property. My dad collected a bunch of replica swords from movies and such. When we first watched the movies by brother and I both grabbed em up and pretended we were fighting orcs on hills and bouncing around and on top of them. God I miss those days.
There once was a Mighty Warrior. Swinging and felling enemies in plain sight. There once was a Somebody. Trying to be the best with all his might. Who was greater? The King answered, "Neither". There once was a nobody. Doing 10,000 deeds out of sight. God knows and that's all that matters.
I think this music was what out New Zealand on the map. Now when anyone thinks of New Zealand then autimatically think of it as Middle-Earth also. At least those that like me are hardcore fans :) Awesome work!
The music is wonderful, I feel like that I am in the company of Thorin now. When I go to sleep listening, I imagine being there and helping them. Sometimes I dream, it is me being Thorin's one(dwarves find their one by having feelings). Sleeping next to him by the fire, be by his side and live each other. Sometimes I think that, we are in the mountain and sleeping in the bed of furs and staying warm knowing that we have the mountain back. Having four boys though, they are Thain, Frerin( after Thorin's brother), Torin and Dorin. The heirs of Durin's Folk and the thorne of Erebor who will carry Thorin's legacy when they are grown up to be King.
But i always cry as well as Gandalf said “It takes a man to have more courage to cry than to keep to himself .” Gandalf mines of Moria Lord Of The Rings.

The dark filled all the room, and the fire died down, and the shadows were lost, and still they played on. And suddenly first one and then another began to sing as they played, deepthroated singing of the dwarves in the deep places of their ancient homes.

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold
The dwarves of yore made mighty spells
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep
In hollow halls beneath the fells
For ancient king and elvish lord
There many a gleaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught
To hide in gems on hilt of sword
On silver necklaces they strung
The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, in twisted wire
They meshed the light of moon and sun
Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To claim our long-forgotten gold
Goblets they carved there for themselves
And harps of gold; where no man delves
There they lay long, and many a song
Was sung unheard by men or elves
The pines were roaring on the height
The winds were moaning in the night
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
The trees like torches blazed with light
The bells were ringing in the dalr
And men looked up with faces pale;
The dragon's ire more fierce than fire
Laid low their towers and houses frail
The mountain smoked beneath the moon;
The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom
They fled their hall to dying fall
Beneath his feet, beneath the moon
Far over the misty mountains grim
To dungeons deep and caverns dim
We must away ere break of day
To win our harps and gold from him

I've listened to many since I have been down here in the brutal heat of Arizona on a trip to take care of my father's estate since he passed last year. Your videos have helped me sleep at night until we return to Vegas again soon. Thank you.
My goodness! That rendition of The Misty Mountains on the cello is wonderful.
Goosebumps and tears in the eyes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time and effort. Thank you so much my friend.
Hauntingly beautiful with the effects of wind just like I always imagined there would be on the Misty Mountains. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos, I absolutely adore them.
this is so heartbreaking... Tolkien universe is that powerful
Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To find our long-forgotten gold
The pines were roaring on the height
The winds were moaning in the night
The fire was red, it flaming spread
The trees like torches blazed with light
I'm doing lesson planning for my students, all of whom I miss very, very much. This music sort of reflects how I feel about now. Alas, August will be here soon enough and I'll get to see them again!
Cheers and salutations to all of my FELLOW "VIRTUAL SCHOOL' TEACHERS! - AKA 'THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE 'NET!'
Thank you for all you do. Teach well. Be safe.
@@sophiaayala7856 Thank you, Ms. Sophia! I appreciate your kind words. You are most welcome. It is my honor to teach and serve the world's greatest, most precious treasure, our children. Be safe and be blessed as well. ~LR
I love how mountains stick out of the earth like spikes on a morning star.
I just discovered this channel. The music makes me feel that I am taking the journey along with Gandalf, Bilbo and the 13 dwarves.
Your videos are my favorite! I studied with them through 2.5 years of high school and many late-night study sessions when I was the only one awake in the house for hours on end. Thanks so much.
I am listening to this on a stormy night and I must say, the thunder really makes the ambience sound a lot cooler!
I love lotr. I don't care if people say it's boring, or too long. Those people just don't appreciate a good movie. XD. Thank you so much for all these soundtracks!
This music makes me cry, laugh, and sing. It's a lovely mix of everything, and it makes me want to re-watch the movies for the millionth time. 😊
Listening to this at 40k feet above the clouds... feels magical
Bro this song is so relaxing, i listen to it while i study and read books. And it's also the greatest films of all time.
probably the most glorious trilogy of all time
Looks like I just found my new favourite ambience channel to write to ^^
Exactly what I'm doing. I've been practically spitting out new chapters.
I would love to hear a Laketown version. Some of the themes there are so beautiful and peaceful!
Yes, laketown! that would really be great!
Well my friends, enjoy Laketown!
What a mix of grateful soundtracks… 🎶💙🤍
Master Baggins will be enjoying this !!!
`So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains
Where the spirits go now
Over the hills where the spirits fly’
This music has helped in so many ways.... Studying, reading, healing from surgery.... Amazing content!!!
I listen to this a lot when I do homework. It brings me back to the first time I read The Hobbit when I was in middle school. I often just listen to this before going to bed, too. It’s so relaxing and adventurous at the same time. I love it!💗🔥🥰
Please accept my gratitude for this wonderful composition. Just amazing..
Every time I hear Howard Shore's beautiful music, I suddenly like going on an unexpected journey! I wore out my first set of LOTR'S DVD'S! My husband got me the blueray versions of The Hobbit and LOTR'S. Best investment ever!!! Time to go!!!
I have read the books listening to these Lord of the Rings playlists and it has been so beautiful. I just finished the trilogy and I'm in tears. Thank you so much! 💚
The trilogy of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings will never be forgotten, nor forgotten in the far future. I honor all of the hero’s who have been Slain by their nemesis, and to those who have slain Balrogs to save their kingdom.
Far over the misty mountains cold... I'm so glad I read that book :)
Thank you for helping me get through nap time when babysitting. Works like a charm 😊
I could not get through a day of work without these awesome playlists. Fantastic job!
I cannot get through any type of paperwork without AW’s beautiful ambiences. I have been a member of this beautiful community for 2 years, and I must say, I don’t think I’d be who I am today without Ambient’s ambiences to chill me out and keep me calm.
If more people valued home above gold, this world will be a merrier place
~ Thorin Oakenshield~ son of Thrain son of Thror King Under The Mountain. In the battle of the five armies, when Thorin died, I start to cry because he will forever be in my ♥️till the end and always be my favorite dwarf King.
This music brings me to a time where life felt like pure bliss, nowadays this is the only thing that can help me just simply fall asleep.
this has really given me an introspective night. I have a headache and can't sleep, and I'm feeling pretty down about my longish distance gf who we decided shouldn't come to me for the date we had planned today and tomorrow due to being worried about getting ill off me and us being in the midst of a levels.
This music allowed me to be emotional, feel raw and then built me back up with the misty mountains theme and gave me solace knowing everything will be okay
Thank you so much for putting these videos together. I am reading the hobbit to my daughter and I am having fun picking videos to play in the background as I read.
You're a cool mom!! 😎
Cacti. Plural of cactus. Sorry, I had to.
We had the old hay bales just taking up room at the back of our property. My dad collected a bunch of replica swords from movies and such. When we first watched the movies by brother and I both grabbed em up and pretended we were fighting orcs on hills and bouncing around and on top of them. God I miss those days.
This was my childhood too!
The best soundtrack for my class to nap to! Both peaceful for them and myself!! Love!
This song has helped me through alot of test! Such a relaxing song from such great movie. Love it!
"The pines were roarrrrrring..." --- Great stuff here! Love your addition of the Misty Mountains weather in the music and video. Bravo!
This is so heartbreakingly powerful
I think this music was what out New Zealand on the map. Now when anyone thinks of New Zealand then autimatically think of it as Middle-Earth also. At least those that like me are hardcore fans :) Awesome work!
how am I barely seeing this one?! LOOOOOVE first day back at work after Christmas and I'm obsessed.
Mia Cienfuegos SAME!
Thanks you Mia!!!
Howard Shore created a masterpiece, and your work with it is pretty amazing too
I'm going to melt, this is.... I'm speechless.
"Home is now behind you, the world is ahead"
I love this channel I listen to it to relax and sleep and to focus for studying and writing bless the person who does this❤️❤️
So glad I stumbled onto this channel! Awesome ambience tracks and great visuals!!!
SON OF THRAIN
SON OF THROR
HEIR OF DURIN
KING UNDER THE MOUNTAIN
THORIN II OAKENSHIELD
How is this channel not more popular? Definitely my new favorite. Subbed.
LONG LIVE THE KING THROUGH DARKNESS AND DESPAIR, LONG LIVE, THE KING UNDER EREBOR!
@@Violetatk I agree
Why LOTR songs always make me cry? Such a profound experience when you hear them .
Not trying to be smart, but I am pretty sure that this music is only from The Hobbit. Just for future knowledge 😊
But i always cry as well as Gandalf said “It takes a man to have more courage to cry than to keep to himself .” Gandalf mines of Moria Lord Of The Rings.
The silence seemed to dislike being broken- except by the noise of water and the wail of wind and the crack of stone. 🏔
You are truly wrothy of the gods! Praise be! The God's will surely bless you and everything u do! SKÅL my friend! 💪💪
I've taken on quite an interesting translation project and this is the perfect ambience to have in the back while I pick and choose at which word and way to translate. Thank you so much for your stellar uploads! Hope everyone reading this is keeping well. Take care!

This is the exact piece he used in the video. (If you're wondering, the instrument played is a Cello.)
The dark filled all the room, and the fire died down, and the shadows were lost, and still
they played on. And suddenly first one and then another began to sing as they played,
deepthroated singing of the dwarves in the deep places of their ancient homes.
when that cello just hangs out by it's lonesome...i'm done, stick a fork in me! love peace and solidarity from Chicago. great score, love these tracks for studying time, thank u for sharing!
when I can't fall asleep I put this on,and imagine I'm with the company.(Btw the hobbit is my comfort movie)
Nice picture of Matterhorn it fits quite well.
Since most dwarves live in mountains: this music is definitely worthy of the halls of any king under the mountain.
I just miss the mountains so much! 👍
Thank you so much for making these videos! I love listening to them while I write, and it really helps me get in the zone. 😊
I’m currently parked on the side of the interstate, the highway patrol has it closed until daylight because of blizzard conditions. This is perfect
I turned this on to sleep by and didn't notice it stopped - 7 hours later, that is xD
I'd be lost without all your compilations keeping me chill at work (in a very stressful/fast paced environment). Helps me focus and breathe easier too. 🙂
Thanks for this ! İ really like to listen ambiances while i read. İm reading Hobbit now, and its making the book more magical !!🌿
