!!!! I love smart people... My Airbag light has been on for the last year.... I figured it was the sensor in the front bumper..... My cruise control hasn't worked forever.... The steering wheel sounded like there was gravel inside the steering wheel when making turns in town.... a month ago the horn wouldn't quit honking, so I took out a fuse that also killed the radio, tail lights, cab lights and I figured the steering wheel horn buttons were stuck... Finally, last week a relatively thin copper wire started twisting its way out between the steering wheel and the column! Thanks for taking the time to post this video! It is much appreciated
Good video ! Thanks for making it. Ive got a 1999 dodge ram 2500. No air bag light but cruise control does not work when steering wheel is turned in a certain direction. Cruise only works when I’m driving south on the freeway. Going north it wont set. Steering wheel position I’m guessing.
Thanks for the video. It helped get me started. I have a 2001 Cummins. I have the radio controls on mine so probably why my part was different. I have one medium sized connector instead of the 2 split wires. Just a pointer so you dont have to put your rig back together to order the correct part like me! Also my steering wheel horn/airbag bolts were an 8mm. All is well now and also i fixed my horn! Haven't had a horn on this truck since i bought it 5 years ago! Thanks again. Happy wrenchin' y'all!
Nice video man, I’m going to have to do this. My cruise doesn’t work and my airbag light is on. Never really thought about it being the clock spring. Thanks for the upload.
No problem! As you can see it is easy to do. Like i say in the video try and get your hands on OEM over dorman or something. I am sure aftermarket is fine but i prefer the oem for some things.
For sure. Go to ebay and a guy has them for cheap. It will list as genuine mopar durango ram etc. Just make sure you get the one for cruise or it won’t have the wiring. You know what i don’t work on these trucks for a living. I am a boat mechanic. I have often thought of starting up something on the side because i know these trucks so well just from doing my own work on them.
I have a 2000 dodge dakota with the same damn problem cruise doesn't work and airbag light stays on. My problem is also the steering wheel is upside down when wheels are straight. Think when my brother replaced the rack and pinion something didn't get down in the process of doing and that's why my steering wheel is upside. Not sure if i replace the clockspring would fix that problem but definitely fix cruise and airbag light problem.
Would a bad clock spring cause your horn to constantly go off? The only way I could stop it was to disconnect the wires going directly to the horns. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am not sure as i have never had it happen personally. My best guess would be no because on my truck it has power fed to the horn. When you press it, it grounds it and your horn goes off. It could be touching ground. Try and pull your horn off the wheel and see if it stops. Otherwise i would suspect a wiring short somewhere.
My horn was blasting with my 99 Ram shut off. I pulled blown fuse and pulled the horn relay too. My airbag light has been coming on randomly too. I think this is the fix I need.
I bought a 99 Dodge ram 2500 and the cruise control light never comes on. The cruise works sometimes and doesn't hold , meaning it will increase in speed sometimes. Could the clock spring cause this?
'97 Dodge Ram 1500 Single Cab short box. Brand New Clock Spring, CC lights come on, still no CC, no Horn. Air bag light goes off. Still at a loss. Is this a vaccum issue, or a fuse issue? Or something else, I should be looking into?
Just put a new spring in, didn’t have an airbag light before but had no cruise control.. now I have a light with both the new and old springs.. code reader says driver squib circuit short
@@Schneids15 I have no airbag light at all when I turn the wheel, the horn will stay on constantly until I turn the wheel the opposite way. The signals work fine. No clue what’ll cause this. Any input is appreciated.
Very helpful video. Could a bad clockspring cause the overdrive button on the shifter to not work? Anyone have any idea what might cause overdrive not to work? No light comes on or anything. The physical clicking on the button feels fine.
@@twistedtree4328 I have since fixed the overdrive. The clockspring fixed my cruise control, but to fix the over drive button it was very simple. If anyone is reading, remove the OD button and simply clean the metal contact points. A seemingly non existent hazy film of dust/dirt (didn’t even look dirty to be honest) was preventing the button to have connection. Simple zero cost fix.
So i replaced the clock spring but when I pulled the steering wheel my steering wheel column squeaks with and bump or movement. Any suggestions where I need to tighten?

that's correct they have the steering controls in the centre on the bottom right? I am 99% sure everything else is the same. The Gen1 trucks should be very close too.

I can only find one that has cruise and audio control. My truck don’t have audio control I’m wondering if that one would still work

On old cars there is usually a thin pad of foam that ususually degrades overtime and loses its springyness don't know about the ram though

It will increase speed with no light on? Just starting diagnosis there. Possibly a bad light and then other issues further on? Let me know.

99 Cummins. The cruise light does not come on when I turn the ignition on. Any thoughts? Cruise was working.
new clock spring, no horn and airbag light still on. IDK what to do now. Horn works if I short it on the steering wheel nut.
Horn will only work if shorted that way. It has to be installed on the wheel to work i believe.

So the horn doesn't work if the clock spring doesn't work? My cruise dont work, and horn either.
The click spring is likely your issue. If you hear a clunking or snapping sound when turning the steering wheel it is pretty well 100% your issue.
@@Schneids15 and i had the airbag off and tested the redwire and had no current. wasnt sure if that was the hotwire or not.

Wondering if your light is burned out. Maybe check fuses also? I believe the 01-02 trucks never used a servo and somehow did it electronically.
