    I know a few spots similar to this. I couldn't figure out how to harvest massive amounts for two decades. Why didn't i think of this? Glad I looked it up! Thanks for making this video! Now I'm going to see if i need a commercial license or whatever to sell to bait shops.

    This looks like an excellent method for catching these crabs. But I bet if you got you a ten gallon Hat, a pair of boots, a couple horses and some Chewing tobacco it would significantly speed up the process and make it more streamline. You gotta watch out where you spit though you might take one of these little guys out.

    Where in Florida do you find fiddler crabs of this abundance these days? Back in the 60's I saw them, but not lately especially in the Sebastian Area.

    Fiddlers used to be thick like this near Ponce Inlet. We buried a shallow plastic tub and herded them just like this. I don't think there's a hundred fiddlers in Volusia County any more. Where was this video made?

    When i used to work at a pet store as a kid we had a fiddler crab come in and the others had eaten all his legs and left him with only one claw he could use to feed himself. Every morning when i opened the store i had to check him because he would fall over backwards and he would lay there waving his claw in the air. We had to moving him around to eat. One time while cleaning the tanks this lady asked us what a cute little crab and why we named him chris the crab? We told her after christopher reeve. She got pissed off and stormed out amd we never saw her again. Anyway chris the crab lived for 3-4 months before he finally passed away RIP.

      +Jiyong Han Using my knowledge as a Florida native, fiddler crabs can replenish their number in a rather short amount of time compared to other kinds of crabs. I'm not sure about the actual numbers and dates but I think even after all they took the population should be back up in a couple months. Plus did you see how many of them there were? He took 2-3 buckets and there still a huge number of crabs left. At $300 a bucket that whole horde is probably worth $2,000. Leaving enough to repopulate ensures you can get much more than two grand over time, though ;)

    for all those that are going on about population. its pretty obvious that these little guys reproduce very quickly for there to be so many of them. and for those who wonder why they need so many, they said that they are selling them right. well theres your answer as to why the need so many of them. its not only them their fishing for. and think about it logically, whether they sold them to their customers or all their customers fished for them themselves the amount that are going to be catched probably isnt going to change all that much. in fact it would probably be more than in this video. I dont think any one person needs this many crabs too fish with, but when dividing the number they fished by the number of customers they have, the amount probably becomes alot more appropriate.

They have to return to the sea at some point, most likely the same way they came in. Just sayin , cool video though

      +A Giz For fiddler crabs? You bet your ass there's a demand for it. It's a great bait in Florida for catching all kinds of things. Especially sheepshead, a very delicious fish. Some people grind them up and put them in cheese cloth for chum when catching live fish for bait with nets.

      +Gillan Laureth of Seles okay so... enough with the penis, even though it is a great discussion I must restart this convo... so fiddler crabs ARE worth 600 a bucket like he said in the video? Yes no? Gillan Laureth says yes.

    • @giausjulius4
      @giausjulius4 9 років тому +2

      Max Savino I don't know if they're $600 a bucket but they are valuable and there is a demand for them in certain areas of Florida. I think the guy in the video said $200 a bucket and they got 3 buckets so $600 total. Too lazy to watch it again lol.

    As easy as they are to catch I wish there was a way to eat them. I wonder if I used a crock pot and slow cooked them till the shell was soft if they would be edible?

  • @andrewmross5102

    I understand that these guys want to go fishing and all. But I mean 5 gallons worth of fiddler crabs is way more than enough. I don't think any of these people took into consideration how long it will actually take to use all those Up as bait. I see people doing this kind of thing all the time with fiddler crabs. It's inexcusable. There should be some law that allows only like 10 crabs per person.

    • @HawkEye-cm5wb
      @HawkEye-cm5wb 8 років тому +4

      They're collecting them to sell at a bait shop. There are quite literally millions upon millions of them in any area such as this. If the population was in danger or it was effecting other species, there would be regulations on it. Also, 10, seriously? 10 will maybe last you maybe and hour, much less of you're actually getting bites.

      fiddlers are an invasive species that cause more damage to the environment per habited area than humans do. those large patches of missing reeds and dry sand are cause by those land nuggets.

      If you want to be an environmentalist then be an informed environmentalist. Do you even know anything about fiddler crabs? Do you know if they're invasive, what other wildlife eats them, if fiddler crab population is in danger, or if there is plenty of other food for that wildlife besides fiddler crabs? National fish and wildlife service pays attention to those things because they're informed.
