When we Fought Raiden Shogun I was very happy because for the first time in the story there was actually someone in the game that was just about to straight up kill us and the music just adds to the intensity of the moment. Raiden shogun`s theme sounds very ominous and evil.
I have seen people in the comment complain that she was out of character during the story quests, and she should have stayed a villain. But while it might have been interesting for her to remain hostile to some degree towards the traveler, it would most certainly add too many to the current number of enemies faction, as she would be neither with the Abyss, or Celestia, or even the Fatui. As for her story quests, they were brilliant actually, it might be important to fully appreciate them to consider that her change of heart wasn't caused so much by the traveler as it was by Yae using the traveler to get to her and convince her to at least consider her other options. As for her story quests, it would be her doing exactly that : considering. She's not shown to be unable to listen to others, she's stubborn at worse, but she does often meditate and think on herself, so it's not out of character at all of her to go on a shopping trip if the traveler happened to offer her a legit reason such as making her attempts at introspection easier.
Also, I think people tend to forget that Raiden and Ei are not the same person. It was shown in Ei's story quest that Raiden has some degree of autonomy, no matter how you look at it, even if it was intended by her programming. Who we see in the Archon quest is mostly Raiden and although Ei did allow Raiden to act in a way that was hostile to the Traveler, there is a difference between hearing about the Traveler from Raiden and Tenryou Commision's reports and actually getting to know them. Raiden was a vaillain, Ei was not, in my opinion at least. The first time we actually get to know Ei is during her story quests; how could she then act "out of character" if we'd never seen her actual "character" before that? I think people just wanted a cool villain; it has nothing to do with Ei being in character or not. Ei and Raiden are separate entities, even if highly dependent on one another, which was made clear enough in the story quests. Personally, I'd rather see a cool storyline with Raiden rebelling against Ei-then, Raiden could be the villain and Ei could still keep helping the Traveler, with Scaramouche involved in there somewhere as well. It would also pose some interesting philosophical questions like: what is a person? what is a self? can body and soul exist separate from one another? or does the mere independence of the body mean that it has acquired a soul? It would be much more interesting than Raiden and Ei being evil for the sake of being a hot evil anime girl.. I mean, "a cool villain."
This video made me realize 1 thing about the Inazuma arc... All of the complaints people have about Inazuma's story could've been solved with one simple change... Make the raiden shogun a villain, don't redeem her and let her be a villain working together with Celestia, keep her backstory and everything but just leave her as an evil god impossible to defeat. Goes from another waifu to add to your Harem to a ticking bomb that could just kill you if she wants to... This would make us feel more sympathetic about scaramouche, make the resistance arc have relevance and give the story a much more nuanced undertone
Ikr, it made me so mad when they tried to redeem her with her 'uwu shopping date' story quest. It felt way out of character for her and I hope they don't do the same to the rest of the 'evil' characters like Scaramouche and the rest of the harbingers
@@strawberrycrepesss Actually I think Ei’s first story quest was quite good. Ei stepping outside and seeing the changes and realises that changes aren’t bad and progression is for the better. It helps her transition into becoming Makoto’s successor to eternity/ transience in the second quest
I think the two raiden story quests fixed a lot of the inazuma archon quests’ issues. The whole watasumi portion of the story was so poorly handled and felt so lame did not feel like a war at all. So it didn’t really help that part. But it answered questions that were left
@@whitneyhouston9879 my problem with the whole two raidens part is that it ignores the fact that Ei essentially just abandoned Inazuma, I get that she was griefing the death of her sister, but that doesn't mean she can leave a violent tyrant to rule over the nation her sister was so desperately trying to protect and not face any sort of consequence. Fighting the puppet wasn't even about this either, it was about fighting her own guilt over her sister's death, not about the consequences of leaving Inazuma to suffer under the hands of the shogun. In my personal opinion, writing a character is all about "choices", what choices does the character make to let them be where they are, Ei didn't make any choice and the story actively stops her from making one, in my opinion the shogun puppet is more of a character than Ei, because Ei could've been completely erased from the story and everything would still work. You could drop the entire puppet plot, make it so that the role of the puppet is fullfiled by Ei, and the traveler has to team up with Makoto's ghost (or anything like that) to take her down. Make the story about grief, and center it around how Ei doesn't allow herself to grief and change because that would go against her belief of eternity, and in the end, let Ei and Makoto have the exact same scene that the second story quest gave us... Or idk... Just, something more interesting than what we got, I'm not a writer or anything...
I also would have preferred if Raiden stayed a antagonist; maybe let her work together with the Traveller for business purposes alone, but let her still be hostile towards us and dislike us - also; and I think thats an unpopular opinion - but I would have liked it so much better if her Story quests didnt involve the traveller at all. What about if the story quest allows us to travel back to a different time, like hundreds of years ago, where her friends were still around and stuff like that and we only control Raiden and relive some parts of her prior life without any kind of interference of the traveller whatsoever. Imo that would have been so much cooler, buuuut I guess... for marketing purposes they just NEED to make every character like the traveller, which is why he is a self-insert to begin with *shrug*
sure i can see why raiden should be a villain. But we've seen her as a villain through the peoples' eyes and our own a bit but truly in her plane of euthymia? She's reflecting and from my view, alone and doesnt want to be a main witness to what she had decided for her nation but still did. Raiden is definitely a character who isn't so much executed well. i think if they explained what makoto was to her then branched from that, the story wouldve been a quite good story of close family that were always together suddenly being left alone at the expense of the victory of war, and how that one death affected a whole nation. Side note, it could also be part of traveller's own story, how they would feel if their twin was taken from them for the greater good. Anyway, questions like, What did she feel to suddenly being the new shogun? How did she feel to live up to her sister's expectations in secret? What was her sister to her and what did she feel towards her back? The shock and sadness of seeing her sister die and khaenri'ah's fall and to ensure that didnt happen to inazuma, did she have any conflict that it was that same nation her sister died to protect and ultimately left her? Her initial feelings to Inazuma and makoto, and how it changed after makoto died. Def wouldve made her more villain if sometimes she did enjoy seeing that same nation suffer a bit of what she did when makoto died, then realises that it's the same nation her sister cared and died for. It makes her more pitiful bc it insinuates she cares for makoto and how much she cared for her sister, but explains why she would leave a puppet i suppose and ignore Inazuma to quietly grieve. And during her redemption, it couldve done better instead of just seeing changes. She should see how her grief had hurt and killed others too. Scaramouche, the dead people of her nation, etc. She couldve become a very good morally grey character and also motivator for traveller to find their sibling but was rushed, unfortunately.
Tbh i think it would even make more sense for ei to leave inazumas leadership to its people while overseeing from the shadows since she will feel too guilty about everything she has done after the duty of the shogun was passed on to her unintentionally and now she must protect the nation itself after realizing how much inazuma means to her sister. Idk this makes more sense to me because of her being a tyrant makes her very unlikely to get chosen again as inazumas ruler. That wouldve made it even more of the change of tone we need from the previous two archon quest where we left liyue and mond on a happy note and then in inazuma we first confront a god and eventually know more and more about her ideals and her reason and eventually making her regret and rethink about all the decision she made which will end with us overthrowing her and making the decision whether or not what we should do as the resistance army is right outside of the castle ready to storm the inside. Idk wrote this on a whim and after reminding myself how rushed and shallow inazumas arc is

True but the divine potential that Raiden Shogun had for a villain was immaculate.
