FLEX TESTING A $33 Steering Wheel! | eBay Steering Wheel Review

Inexpensive aftermarket steering wheels from eBay and Amazon are mostly hated on. But how do they actually perform, and should you buy one? This video is a complete review of a racing eBay steering wheel, with hub and horn adapter, that I mounted on my Mazda MX5 Miata. I flex test the wheel against my old OEM wheel and my brother's genuine Momo Mod 78 wheel. This is a good quality comparison, and the results may surprise you!

This one doesn’t have a quick release but you can buy a separate hub for that

wheels are designed to flex a little bit. as a design engineer we use materials that allow for a certain flexural modulus for 2 reasons. 1) in the event of a crash you arnt smashing your face against a hard object and will give a little. 2) vibration feedback, in offroad your body is bouncing all over the place and the flex offers a tiny amount of dynamic interaction between your soft arms and metal wheel.

Absolutely, People seem to miss this which is probably why people claim these ebay wheels to be junk when in reality it’s not too far off name brand and OEM stuff

I have a 1984 datsun S12 with a v8 swap the stock steering wheel material is falling off I have been pricing aftermarket wheels and some are costly I did see the cheep but decent looking ebag wheels I figured they would bend of just fail your video helped me see that the cheap ones may not be so bad especially how the stock S12 (originally turbo/unique to that option and car) flexes quite a bit

Do you think the hub can fit on any car or is it just the Mazda?

It’s specific to mazda but there’s a good chance you can get a universal hub for whatever you have

ok, so i have seen flex tests of other cheap wheels where they look like play-doh. i would love a link to this exact wheel since it seems trustworthy. not that i am going to put it in a real car, its just for sim racing. but i still dont want one i accidentally bend while balancing to sit or stand up etc.

how can i tighted my wheel so it doesnt flex too much. its shakes like crazy at 70 mph and above

That's more likely a unbalanced wheel or a steering issue rather than the steering wheel
