      There's a possibility, that aliens have already visited us, and they can even be still observing us. TheTTguy no be doesn’t. He holds on to the belief that we are important to aliens... because he himself can’t conceptualise how far advanced the other guy is describing. If we are talking about a GALACTIC race to think they would be interested in a mere planetary race surely is illogical. To get to being a galactic race they’re lightyears ahead of us in terms of technology and evolution. What could they learn from a planetary species that they have probably seen/ experienced or tested an infinite number of times over? Typical ego of human beings thinking we are more than what we are... basically bacteria.

      Quality Work technological advancement grows at an exponential rate at a factor of roughy 10 so your calculations is off dramatically. It won’t take that long to become a galactic race. Secondly, technological advancement might go in different direction in terms of expansion, there are theories that suggest that technologically superior species might go nano as it is way more efficient.thirdly, to base your idea of what an extremely advanced civilisation might be curious about is stupid non the less as it’s all theory. Lastly(in my opinion), if I was apart of a galactic civilisation I would want to know who the fuck lives in my crib and detail everything in between because I can.

    Its so refreshing for him to say "not that I'm aware of." I think this is the type of humility and curiosity needed for Science to take that proverbial Quantum Leap... The second someone thinks they know it all, they leave absolutely no room for discovery.

I think it’s really important to remember that aliens, who I believe are probably monitoring us too, are probably interested in us in the same way that we are interested in monkeys. And, the best thing for us, from their perspective is to leave us alone and let us grow and figure our shit out before they give us any sort of introduction at all. but also, consider the fact that any alien that is able to monitor us without us knowing, visit us without us knowing, or even get to this planet, has a level of technology so far beyond hours, that we cannot even conceive of its origins.

      2 = Our Current Technology in 2022

      Advanced lifeforms like us are probably very rare in space, so it has to be a huge distance between us. therefore we cant see them because the light takes so long to travel.
      with James weeb they zoom millions of light years, to investigate the forming of early galaxies

But that's an extremely unlike scenario and the society would have to be so old we'd still be stuck with the question of why we're not seeing their ancient expansion when looking at the stars.
      Or maybe life and advancement of technology is *not* common. But wouldn't that make us interesting in itself?
      And can we even imagine intelligent life developing technology without at least some form of curiosity?

      Vlad - animals don’t find humans interesting. They see us as just threats or instrumental to their survival. thinking the way a human thinks and thinking with a prefrontal cortex assumes these possibilities. It’s easy to assume we’re interesting because we’re all we know. Aliens could have a completely different thought process - beyond all understanding especially if they are advanced beyond our comprehension. They don’t have similar traits. Technology and advancement may be the forefront of their existence.
      If there were an alien life form with an economy and structure similar to ours would likely find us interesting because based on these variables they are similar, but the chances an alien life form similar to us that happens to “discover” us is extremely rare considering all the possibilities from no aliens to aliens that have discovered time jumps or something similar,

    • @Ryan-by8ui

      I tend to agree that any advanced society would be sufficiently “interested” in life forms on other planets. In fact, the more advanced they are, the less there is to discover and learn on their home world and they’ve looked outward to other stars and planets as we’ve done.
      Though it’s highly likely they’re not interested enough to take massively long and strenuous journeys to visit us.

    Why haven't Aliens visited us? This question presumes that multiple scenarios exist such as :-
    1) There are alien species in the Milky Way galaxy other than humans. As far as we are concerned, we could be the only one and other species have yet to develop, are in their infancy, or exist in another galaxy.
    2) Presumes that they are aware of our presence. It's possible they are out there but still have yet to discover humanity.
    3) Presumes that some form of advanced Interstellar technology is possible. We have theories on how to build such devices but they require ridiculous levels of energy to function. It's possible that such devices are impossible to build so alien civilizations are stuck on their home star system .
    4) Presumes that they must have a reason to visit Earth or communicate with humanity. As Greene said, they are smart enough that we have nothing to offer them or some galactic law prevents them from communicating with primitive species.
    5) Presumes that we haven't made contact before. They could have arrived to Earth many years before but the evidence was either never documented, withered away through history, or was destroyed.
    6) Presumes that we aren't actively communicating now. It's possible that aliens are only communicating with our higher levels of authority such as the government and such information is kept secret for whatever reason.
    These are what I could think of.

    • @crafty1098
      @crafty1098 Місяць тому

      These are all good potential explanations. Most arguments revolve around the drake equation and the Indifference Principle (that we should assume we are average unless there's a specific reason to assume otherwise).
      There are 400 billion stars in the galaxy spread over a disk 100,000 LY wide. The universe is 14 billion years old. So let's say life could appear between ten billion years ago and ninety billion years from now. It's been estimated that a species colonizing the galaxy could fill it up in about 25 million years.
      Earth is about 5 billion years old. There's evidence of life within a few hundred millions years of the planet forming. Then, only single celled life until about 500 million years ago. Humans evolved about 5 million years ago, invented agriculture 10,000 years ago, and our entire industrial civilization is 500 years old.
      What can we conclude? Assuming they are limited by the speed of light, most aliens in the galaxy who decide to look at us will at best see an intelligent but pretechnological species. Observers in nearby galaxies see macroscopic (multicellular) life.
      Under the Indifference Principle, we see no reason why some aliens couldn't have popped up a billion years earlier than us and filled the galaxy almost immediately in stellar terms. Upon encountering Earth, they would have found a planet with nothing but prokaryotic single celled life. So why wouldn't they have colonized our solar system? Maybe some aliens care so much that they would have left our world as a nature preserve, but would EVERY race have cared that much? They wouldn't just be different from us, they'd be different from each other, so you'd think that at least some species would be expansionistic. Five hundred years of human industry has made detectable changes to the planet. After five hundred MILLION years, wouldn't at least some alien species be affecting their solar systems enough to be detectable? At 100k LY, there's plenty of time for the light from alien stellar engineering projects to have reached us. Yet we've looked and haven't seen any.
      The challenge of the Fermi paradox is that any solution that allows advanced alien species to exist in our galaxy has to apply nearly universally among what is probably an incredibly diverse array of possible intelligent species. Yes, aliens might be different from us in ways that might make them less detectable, but it's equally likely that they differ from us in ways that make them MORE detectable.
      Given the speed of light and the distances involved, it's not surprising that we haven't been contacted or visited yet. But it is VERY surprising that we haven't seen evidence of their existence in other solar systems and also surprising that some of them haven't been here all along.

      Brian's view is very unscientific. The bulk of his argument is that aliens would find our civilization boring and unworthy of attention which he has no evidence for. There is evidence that they would be interested in us as Joe argues. He is also completely ignoring aliens' moral duty of making earth a better place by interfering with our civilization if they have the power to do so.
      Brian is also assuming that the exponential scientific development will continue for a long time. Anybody that understands exponential growth will tell you, exponential growth will not last for long. For example, CPU speed is no longer growing exponentially, like it did for decades. On the contrary, scientific development may have a logarithmic increase in the future because every time you discover something, the next piece of knowledge will be more complex and will require more reasoning to discover. So, we will have to spend more time to discover new knowledge. So, the difference between a 15,000 years old civilization and a 1,000,000,000 years old civilization may not be huge.
      I want to make it clear that I am not underestimating how complicated the universe may be. In fact, I am arguing that it is probably physically impossible for intelligent beings to discover the vast majority of knowledge about the universe, within the life time of the universe.
      Why do I think aliens don't contact us? The possibilities from most likely to least likely in my opinion are:
      1- They don't have the technology for intergalactic travel in short period of time. That would require them to go faster than light. We have no evidence that it is possible to travel faster than light.
      2- They don't know we are here. There are trillions of stars in the universe. It is very hard to spot earth in this endless universe.
      3- They spend ALL of their resources on solving the ultimate problem: heat death of the universe. They are trying to figure out how to stop or survive the heat death of the universe. Since, this problem is about life and death, they wouldn't do anything else but try to solve it.

      @@bunderbah You are assuming that aliens must follow some "moral duty"--especially something that YOU, a human, considers moral. You are again conceptualizing the alien through your limited human lens. They could easily be indifferent to any conceptions of "right and wrong", something akin to us not worrying about the moral good or evil of passing by, ignoring, or even stepping on an ant as we walk by. So the idea of them having a moral duty to make some piece of rock in this infinitely-expanding universe a better place, is a very biased and arrogant assumption. Your third point would hold more weight about them focusing or dealing with incomprehensibly hard challenges and goals that are so grand in scope, scale, and cognition--that we have no way of comparing it or tethering it to the challenges we deal with on Earth--including how we conduct scientific experimentation and what we deem as interesting enough to observe.

    • @bunderbah
      @bunderbah 4 роки тому

      @@Kroitk "They could easily be indifferent to any conceptions of "right and wrong." Wrong, without any moral understanding you can't create an advanced civilization. Somethings will be universal about civilized beings. For example, they will be made out of atoms. They will be intelligent and they will have morals.
      Let's say morality is not a universal constituent of civilizations but if we agree that there are many civilizations then some of them will be similar to us. So, we can look at our projection and infer how some of the more advanced civilizations would behave. We would help another civilization if we didn't have problems of our own and if we had the power to help them. That means we should have been visited by some aliens.
      I don't agree when people try to dismiss earth as just a rock. There are conscious beings on earth. Consciousness is the only thing that can matter in this universe, without it the word "matter" wouldn't even exist.
      Believing that they are capable of travelling faster than speed of light is unscientific. We have no scientific evidence that it is possible. If you believe that they can travel faster than speed of light you have to admit that you have a non-scientific belief.

    • @Kroitk
      @Kroitk 4 роки тому

      @@bunderbah I think the assumption that morality is a necessary condition for an advanced civilization is, again, speaking through the faculty of human reasoning. Morality is important for us, a type of civilization living 2020, a few hundred thousands of years of actual "reasoning". In the grand scheme of things, another intelligent species is far more likely to be either a few hundred-thousand/million years ahead of us, or behind us, to fall into this neat bracket of them being at the same level as us or just slightly higher, would be very unlikely. Given that, we cannot possibly fathom *what* their thinking is like, but we can surmise that it would not be similar to us--as that is both arrogant and unlikely. And because "morally come and visit another planet" is something that WE would do, I don't think it is a NECESSARY condition for a far more advanced civilization. What THEY think is moral could be trying to solve the heat-death of the universe, as you said yourself, and THAT is their greater moral duty--if they consider morality that is. Visiting a spec of intellectual dust in the milky way, thousands of light years away, while knowing there are perhaps millions of planets just like us--would seem illogical to a being whose challenges are incomprehensibly grander is scope and gravity. Personally, I would of course like it to not be the case, and that they would visit us just for the sake of it or curiosity, but it is a wishful proposition and not a likely one. Who is to say their beginnings are carbon-based at all, or even remotely the same timeline of development as us? That is not a fact, either.
