    One thing I’ve learned to consider when speaking of other life forms is whatever they are they most likely exist under different conditions than us. Who knows If they have bodies, speak language, have culture, need food and water to survive, etc. Atmospheric conditions are different across the universe so if they do thrive they exist under different environments than us. Also if we were ever to meet how would we communicate?

    • @mandelorean6243

      You're on the right path there.. The communicate isn't as much of an issue because we don't need to for meeting.
      But exactly.. To think we can even see them is another.. We and our ecosystems life develops different types of sight in the same environment.. Cats can,see urine glowing, scorpions GLOW to them.. We can't imagine the extent of what we can't see.. Radiation for one

    A few possibilities here;
    1. They have visited us in the past, observed, collected data/samples and left ( Prime Directive prevents them from interfering )
    2. They are so far away that even at FTL they may take too long to reach us
    3. Their definition of Sentient life is completely different from ours hence we are being ignored.
    4. They are waiting for us to reach a certain level on the Kardashev scale before they initiate contact
    5. There are no wormholes nearby us, making it impossible for them to reach us ( assuming they can traverse them )
    6. They have been trying to communicate with us, we are not able to understand their signal.
    Feel free to add to this list with your thoughts, however crazy they may seem.

    • @craigcorbet
      @craigcorbet Рік тому +2

      7. Given the amount of energy involved, they could only spend circa 24 hours to try and communicate during their semi-doomed 1977 Wow! Signal attempt. Hence why all subsequent attempts of ours failed to hear them again.
      Not too crazy. Especially if you believe that civilizations tend to kill themselves off before getting 'too' advanced. So they really can't harness insane amounts of energy like the Dyson Sphere would allow for.
      The strongest argument I can think of against my own theory is that they'd surely be smart enough to space out their attempts to communicate with us, anticipating we couldn't always be listening. However, the energy required is extensive. And no source is truly unlimited. They're all finite. Even wind and solar.
      Furthermore 1977 Wow! Signal didn't contain modulation which I'm lead to believe means it contained no attempts to convey information (that we can understand, anyway).

      There is another factor that is often overlooked. Bedsides the distance to be traversed and the evolution of the aliens, along with ours, there is the issue of species lifespan. How long does an intelligent species last vs. less intelligent species? I hypothesize that dinosaurs, etc, lived here for millions of years because they relied on instinct and were not as vulnerable to extinction as humans are. There is already evidence that humans were on the brink of extinction several times, so the question is, how long will we survive? I believe that - 1) it is exceedingly rare to find life on planets, multiplied by millions to find intelligent life 2) That intelligent life has more species span issues that more base forms of life 3) It takes way too long to become galaxy travelers (if at all) 4) We are limited by physics in the distance/time it takes to travel 5) Most, if not all intelligent life is extinct before they can travel that far 6) To find that level of intelligent life, near us in proximity as also in developing during the same million years or so that we existed, is beyond a reasonable chance.

      1. Aliens are so far away that neither civilization has detected the other's transmissions.

      I refuse to believe that we are the only form of Sentient life in the Galaxy. Statistically, that possibility is almost null.

      There's a possibility, that aliens have already visited us, and they can even be still observing us. It's just humans' sensory detection and consciousness are too primitive to even notice their existence. They could exist in higher dimensions and observe from higher forms of consciousness, or they could just come in the form of birds. Just like observing some ants through a hidden camera lens, they won't even know there are humans behind it.

If we are talking about a GALACTIC race to think they would be interested in a mere planetary race surely is illogical. To get to being a galactic race they’re lightyears ahead of us in terms of technology and evolution. What could they learn from a planetary species that they have probably seen/ experienced or tested an infinite number of times over? Secondly, technological advancement might go in different direction in terms of expansion, there are theories that suggest that technologically superior species might go nano as it is way more efficient.thirdly, to base your idea of what an extremely advanced civilisation might be curious about is stupid non the less as it’s all theory. Lastly(in my opinion), if I was apart of a galactic civilisation I would want to know who the fuck lives in my crib and detail everything in between because I can.

    Why haven't Aliens visited us? This question presumes that multiple scenarios exist such as :-
    1) There are alien species in the Milky Way galaxy other than humans. As far as we are concerned, we could be the only one and other species have yet to develop, are in their infancy, or exist in another galaxy.
    2) Presumes that they are aware of our presence. It's possible they are out there but still have yet to discover humanity.
    3) Presumes that some form of advanced Interstellar technology is possible. We have theories on how to build such devices but they require ridiculous levels of energy to function. It's possible that such devices are impossible to build so alien civilizations are stuck on their home star system .
    4) Presumes that they must have a reason to visit Earth or communicate with humanity. As Greene said, they are smart enough that we have nothing to offer them or some galactic law prevents them from communicating with primitive species.
    5) Presumes that we haven't made contact before. They could have arrived to Earth many years before but the evidence was either never documented, withered away through history, or was destroyed.
    6) Presumes that we aren't actively communicating now. It's possible that aliens are only communicating with our higher levels of authority such as the government and such information is kept secret for whatever reason.
    These are what I could think of.

We're able to create and evolve and have a level of awareness that aliens would and should find fascinating enough to study. However, I already believe alien life is monitoring us. I am more than confident that alien life has already visited earth and monitors from a distances. Some theories suggest that we were even placed on this planet by aliens as an experiment to see how we'd evolve and adapt and create societies.

      Why “should” they be interested in us? We aren’t entitled to that simply because we are the smartest species on this planet. Monkeys reason and interact exactly as we do, just nowhere near the scale or the intelligence that we have. I think it’s really important to remember that aliens, who I believe are probably monitoring us too, are probably interested in us in the same way that we are interested in monkeys. And, the best thing for us, from their perspective is to leave us alone and let us grow and figure our shit out before they give us any sort of introduction at all. but also, consider the fact that any alien that is able to monitor us without us knowing, visit us without us knowing, or even get to this planet, has a level of technology so far beyond hours, that we cannot even conceive of its origins.

      Advanced lifeforms like us are probably very rare in space, so it has to be a huge distance between us. therefore we cant see them because the light takes so long to travel.
      with James weeb they zoom millions of light years, to investigate the forming of early galaxies

      @@ITRIEDEL Doesn't explain anything either. If life and advancement of technology is common we're talking anything from hundreds to millions of different alien species from different worlds, with different cultures, values and interests. Each civilization with populations most likely well in the hundreds of trillions and more.
      And none of these civilizations, not even just a group among these trillions upon trillions of individuals has found us interesting?
      I can only make it plausible in a very specific and unlikely scenario where one civilization conquered everyone else and this specfic society isn't interested in other species and they're only waiting to destroy or conquer us because it's not necessary or ideal yet. But that's an extremely unlike scenario and the society would have to be so old we'd still be stuck with the question of why we're not seeing their ancient expansion when looking at the stars.
      Or maybe life and advancement of technology is *not* common. But wouldn't that make us interesting in itself?
      And can we even imagine intelligent life developing technology without at least some form of curiosity?

      Vlad - animals don’t find humans interesting. They see us as just threats or instrumental to their survival. thinking the way a human thinks and thinking with a prefrontal cortex assumes these possibilities. It’s easy to assume we’re interesting because we’re all we know. Aliens could have a completely different thought process - beyond all understanding especially if they are advanced beyond our comprehension. They don’t have similar traits. Technology and advancement may be the forefront of their existence.
      If there were an alien life form with an economy and structure similar to ours would likely find us interesting because based on these variables they are similar, but the chances an alien life form similar to us that happens to “discover” us is extremely rare considering all the possibilities from no aliens to aliens that have discovered time jumps or something similar,

    • @Ryan-by8ui
      @Ryan-by8ui 4 роки тому +9

      I tend to agree that any advanced society would be sufficiently “interested” in life forms on other planets. In fact, the more advanced they are, the less there is to discover and learn on their home world and they’ve looked outward to other stars and planets as we’ve done.
      Though it’s highly likely they’re not interested enough to take massively long and strenuous journeys to visit us.

      DESIREMORE I wonder if he is attempting to simplify his true thoughts. When experts talk to other experts they can assume that the other already knows quite a bit in the field but when talking to someone such as joe he likely needs to change his approach to explaining things

      When you are an expert in a complex field like physics you have to be careful about how much you say and how you say it. It is really easy to lose your audience with concepts that are simple to you but make very little sense to the average person. Brian was being really polite, but could have blown up Joe's arguments if he wanted to.

    Except that we DO hang out on Ant Hills, and we do study lower lifeforms, so that explanation holds no water. Plus if you ask a lot of people we have been visited and frequently.

    It's like watching a middle school teacher who is trying to gently get around the fact that all of the kids are answering his questions completely wrong. "Weeellll that's an interesting thought, Timmy, buuut...."
