I believe the reason this song is so moving to so many of us, when she sings it , it's because she's not singing it to us. She's singing it to the most high God, and you can feel the Spirit throughout the song. It looked like she was crying in the end, and got down on her knees to worship. This song is a fabulous prayer
This is the Original Singer for the GMWA Women of Worship, they performed in San Antonio, Texas. I am not sure if she still is there but it was a big deal in San Antonio at the time. Her voice can not be duplicated..
Amen, you are right, that’s her song, composed brilliantly by Dr. Glen E. Burleigh at GMWA, 1991. What a powerful testimony it was. One of God’s greatest songs. Forever! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This was my Mother’s song! She lead this in our choir. She passed away on 2015 after a battle with cancer. She would be crying if she heard this playing.
This is so ironic I used to lead this song in the choir I was in, and this was the one she used to love to hear me sing too. And what is more ironic is that my mother passed away in 2015 too.
I absolutely adore Mimi Redd. She is so soft spoken and gentle and totally MURDERS that mic for the Lord. The words she sings are what I ask God for daily.
God chose her for this personally! He used her where she could get that anointing to us! You can hear her soul filled with the Holy Ghost!! Than you Jesus!!
atwdrivenman That range is ridiculous. She does sown to the pits of hell in that range. And I agree. If you can’t tell she’s the singer in the original then you need your ears checked
The original singer of this song is Barbara Johnson-Tucker. She was the first to record for the writer of the song alongside Bettye Ransom-Nelson. I believe that Mimi could be the singer in the most popular version that we hear today.
@@Mimi2Y2BYAZPHIL I totally agree. I wanted to simply give some credit where credit is due when it comes to Barbara Johnson-Tucker. You just said what you knew. I was simply informing. For Mimi's version is what I knew before I started studying the soprano voice and found out that it was actually written for Barbara Johnson-Tucker. No harm done man. I completely agree and love both versions and both singers.
....to me....I haven’t been to Church unless I’ve laughed, sweated and cried. I definitely have tears of joy hearing them lead in Worship here. Amen! Victory Worship Center, COG MEMBER HERE. IN CHICAGO!
Yesterday I was listening to this aa im getting my relationship back with Jesus, growing up in Alabama and da church this is one of the first songs I heard,When she hit that B5 I went into the spirit,I felt all my mamas prayers, aunties etc.,I felt the energy and whar jept our people going and I saw a bright light flash,Mimi pulled my tears out !Thankyou God for pulling me back!
Lord Lord Lord how in the world could this people just sit still. I've being crying all day after hearing and seeing this. This is how u suppose to sing when God gave a voice like this to u and especially for the Lord. I'm filled, I"m filled.
Her voice is like the choir of angels that keeps our God happy both day and night. I love this video and I want to Congratulate Sis. Redd & The Choir, the music department and the choir director on a job well done!
I remember when she sang at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC while I was a freshman at A&T ('94-'95) . She sounded great then and she sounds great in this video.
Girl you better sang! This type of singing is not appreciated in the church or by the younger generation. But I have to say, I love it. Gospel Opera is what I call it. Beautiful! God bless this vocalist to continue giving this awesome gift to his people. Amen.
W R O N G. We appreciate and L O V E this singing. We grew up with it because we grew up with our Grandmoms. It is conservative churches who want no spirit filled music that do not appreciate Mimi Redd and Tamela Mann and Kirk Franklin !
This is the only gospel song I like, actually. It feels the most raw, visceral, someone in unfathomable pain asking for guidance, surrending their suffering in hopes of a better life. Anyone who has ever known sorrow can identify. You can tell she loses herself during parts of the song and sings as a beacon.
She did an interview and she revealed that she was surprised that she was asked to do the original album. She also didn't make any money at all on it. I was surprised.
She wasn't the first to record this song. The writer of the song had Barbara Johnson-Tucker sing it live at a church. She sang this song with Bettye Ransom-Nelson. Mimi is the singer of the most popular version of this song, however.
My, my, my....O how I truly miss 'Macedonia TX', the entire Church family and the times we shared in the choir under Mimi's direction. I'm so glad this video has reached this genre. I'm probably one of a few who still own and enjoy viewing and listening to Sister Redd on my VHS when we all sang together. My prayer is that you stay blessed my sister and know that your sweet spirit has never been forgotten. Luv ya.
I only have 30 years experience playing the keyboard, I was encouraged and blessed. To all the negative comments, I say start looking for the positive you might find it!
Mimi is my cousin. Glen Burleigh did in fact write this song and it was recorded at the 1993 (or 1992) GMWA convention by the first GMWA Women of Worship choir. Ms. Redd is a very humble, talented and respected soloist and musician. Mr. Burleigh asked Mimi to sing this song the day before it was recorded and she agreed. Now, I haven't seen the post where someone is judging other folks' praise, but that is not just out of order, it is wrong. I've sung this with Mimi and it is a Holy Ghost thang.
You could see how she was singing to the Lord in spirit. Those who worship the Lord must worship in spirit an in truth. I was touch by her praise. Know the spirit by the spirit. Blessing be unto you.
this song is sooooo beautiful we are going sing it this Sunday, this is right up there with center of my joy its spiritual its kingdom its true worship in lyric and soul I honestly did not know worship could be this profound

Wow wow wow! My goodness! This is a heavenly voice! My God! My body is filled with goose pimples listening to this woman of God! May the Lord keep ordering our steps in Jesus name., amen!!!
Praise the Lord! I enjoyed the worship. To God be the Glory! When played at 1.25 the speed sounds similar to the album. I truly love this song. This is one of the songs that helped to draw me to the Lord as a young adult. May the Lord's anointing continue to touch and impact the lives of many with this song. A real tear jerker. Nothing more inspiring then to hear someone sing from the heart, not attempting to replace the original singer, but able to put his/her own spin on a song. Very well done.
Mimi Redd, the anointed vessel of the Lord, singing lead in this video, is the original singer in the GMWA album. This song was performed by Barbara Johnson Tucker before Mimi performed it with the GMWA. I love both versions. But Mimi is the original on the GMWA album. BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL, WHAT A VOICE.
