Why are feints sometimes better, if you could actually throw a proper punch instead of feinting. Like by using feints to shell somebody up you could also throw punches or not? Or feinting and go to the takedown instead of throwing a real punch and then go to the takedown. Like why are feints sometimes better than throwing real punches?
As said above, feints are way of drawing opponents into making mistakes. You feint when you have a shot or shots already programmed to throw if they take the bait. Feints are also very useful for working out your opponents common pattern of movement without having to place yourself at too much risk.

I'd say the feint allows you to potentially see your opponents peferred defense without getting too much into striking range

Ok thx guys for the good explantion
Because if you feint all the time the opponent isn’t gonna know if you’re striking or feinting so it makes it easier to do damage.
Feint is also much faster to recover from and it does not slow your movement as much as punch would.
