On the note of prepping your kids for character meet-and-greets - We took our son to Disney last year (he was not quite 3 years old) and I had no idea how he was going to handle the character interactions. He is very shy and I fully expected him to hate it, but the characters were so good to him! We started with some short lines (like Doc McStuffins) and when we saw how much he loved it, we stood in longer lines and did some lightening lanes. Each of the characters he met matched his quiet energy, got down to his level, and spent time calmly interacting at his pace. They offered hugs and let him decide. They let him touch their gloves and Minnie booped his nose and let him boop her nose. He had so many sweet, tender interactions with these characters and it made me so grateful that they were so patient with a shy little boy instead of just wanting to gravitate toward the kids who were more energetic in their excitement. So if you have a shy little one that wasn't a fan of the Easter bunny or Santa, you can definitely still try a few characters as Disney because the people there really know what they are doing and how to gently interact with little ones.

i will ALWAYS vouch for the baby care center, even as a childless adult. when i was in animal kingdom, i needed feminine products and was directed that way by cast members. i was able to purchase them AND use the best bathroom in the whole park in there as well. the cast member working the center was also so sweet, and he let me stay for as long as i needed to so that i could cool off. i love the baby care center!!!!

By the time my sister and I were 12 and 13, we were allowed off on our own. We had to meet and check in with our parents at pre-arranged times (this was in the days before cell phones, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) or we'd lose the privilege. It worked out great, and our parents got to enjoy the park at their own pace while we ran around like headless chickens.

TDR is user friendly, I had no safety concerns for my kids. That was 15 yrs ago, I'd do the same today except Intl phone plans and the ability to rent WiFi hot spots would make travel even less stressful. Japan and TDR in general are very user friendly for all, especially children. WDW in general is so huge and at times very overwhelming. The TDR app is more functional for foreign visitors than it was 5-6yrs ago.

The character thing is so true...we went when my boys were just turned 4 and almost 2. They binged Disney Jr....day 1 we had breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Goofy approached the table, got 3 chairs away from my nearly 2 year old when he let loose a blood curdling scream. The entire restaurant went quiet as people tried to figure out what just happened. My 4 year old loved the characters, it took a while for my 2 year old to warm up. It took Rabbit playing peek-a-boo with him from a few feet apart (oh the belly laughs) to get him to warm up, but still wanted to keep them at a distance. It got better as the week went on, especially if the character wasn't making eye contact, but he warmed up.

If traveling with a young child/toddler, take a photo every morning. If you become separated, it will be incredibly helpful. (Frantic brains will struggle to remember if dd was wearing the Mickey shirt or the red one.) If your child is not old enough to have a cell phone but understands what they are, give her a card with your number, preferably laminated or in a plastic snack bag. We would tell ours, if mommy & daddy get lost, ask a cashier for help or look for a Mom and show the card. Might want to include allergies or other valuable info.

Pro tip: don't try to do everything, especially with littles. I went to Disneyland a lot with two toddlers (while pregnant with my third. Yes, I'm crazy) and going "toddler speed" through the park made the days so enjoyable. Just going on two rides and catching a parade, or letting them play for a couple hours and then nap in the stroller after lunch. Catch a show, then hang out and people/character watch. It makes for a much more enjoyable time, I find. 😊

Also remember that the characters are great at taking cues. So if you have a child who loves the characters but one who doesn't, you can do character meals. Keep the child who doesn't love characters at a seat away from where the characters are. When the characters approach the table, let them know which child would love a hug and which child would do better with a wave or is a little shy. They would rather you let them know than have a child meltdown.

The best things I did to prepare my daughter for Disney was to have her get used to costume characters (Geoffrey the Giraffe at Toys R Us and the cow at Chick-fil-a) as much as possible. Once she comfortably could give the characters high fives and hugs-she was then excited to wait in line for meet and greets and collect autographs at Disney parks. Another was taking her to a local theme park at age 2, so she could get used to waiting in lines and riding rides before taking her to Disney. Since she loved the local park, we took her to Disney and has loved every trip to Disney and other amusement parks every time.

this wasn’t mentioned, but this is something i heavily recommend for figuring out where to stay in the orlando area, especially if you have a big family with kids of all ages. get an off resort vacation rental! no, you won’t get the same perks as those staying at the resort, but you’ll get plenty of space for your family and depending on where you stay a private pool with a hot tub. every year that i’ve gone to orlando to go to the parks or universal studios, my family has always gotten a vacation rental. you can find some very cool themed vacation rentals (the last one we stayed at was star wars themed) and these rentals aren’t usually too far from the parks. they’re more cost efficient then double booking hotel rooms and have way more space and privacy. there are cons such as traffic and not having the disney world perks, but id much rather stay in a vacation rental. i recommend Champions Gate and Windsor Hills. At Champions Gate, theres an entire town dedicated for shopping and a Clubhouse that has a variety of activities. If you’re planning on booking a trip to WDW, definitely keep this in mind. Hotels are not the only option.

I took my one year old 3 years ago and wow, what a disaster. I made the mistake of trying to do Disney the “way” we did it all the years of going as kids. A toddler totally changes that! It was a wash of a trip as we missed so many reservations etc. We go again in two weeks with my now 4,3,and 1 year old! I’ve watched this channel so much for the past two years. I’m so ready for it this time!!! Thanks a ton!

On the idea that you want to have extra clothes is supper necessary one time recently (we go a little more info about rain from my family’s experiences with those) we were at epcot and getting the 50th character statues and it started raining and it drenched us and we had to wear our shirts for the next day (this sounds weird but we only brought two shirts we weren’t staying long and it was the day we were going to the halloween party at MK) so something my family has know from us going to disney is that if it rains for about 15 - 30 minutes you are going to be ok with the rain it will normally not rain anymore Florida gets rain frequently (almost everyday when we went more frequently) but if it rains a long time (like a hour or more) then go a head and either go meet characters or ride rides that will still go even if it rains because the rain is more-than-likely going to continue for the rest of the night (this is were it is necessary for the extra clothes or having a room with a washer and dryer this is in most rooms of more than a one room (i believe it will say weather it has one or not on the app were you book it) hope this helps have a wonderful trip to anyone going!

It way to overcrowded and overwhelming for adults let alone for little ones who tell their parents and grandparents they would rather go to the beach than wait in the heat for hours in overcrowded lines looking at nothing but peoples backsides and frazzled parents! Mine's honestly "at least wait until they can talk". Idk what a baby would be able to do there, tbh...At least toddlers can (somewhat) express what they want with words and not just crying because they had a boom-boom. xD
Like, I get it. People love their children and want to make it a wonderful "first" for their babies, but...Tbh, the baby won't remember anything from when it was around 10 years old (maybe? Idk, I don't remember anything from childhood aside from select things), and it's not like they can truly enjoy food, so forget getting any actual Disney snacks for them.
The baby will pretty much be living like a baby, not a kid at a theme park; Since they can't ride anything, eat anything unintended for babies, or really understand anything, there's no point imo. The only differences would be lots of people, character costumes, parades, and more noise than you'd get at home. Unless you...Live in a theme park. xD
I just don't understand why people think it's "better" to take the newborn to Disney/any theme park instead of waiting until it's older and can actually communicate. /shrugs
But I admittedly don't have kids and don't plan to anyway, lol. Don't @ me; I won't see it.

The most aggrevating thing I encounter at the Disney theme parks is dodging around hoards of parents pushing strollers. Listen, folks. Stop bringing your babies and toddlers to Disney theme parks! They are far too young to retain any memories of the Disney experience and half of the time they are asleep in the strollers. These parents are torturing themselves and making their holiday a miserable experience. Wait until they are at least six years old. By that time these children will be active, awake, excited, and will remember their Disney experience.

Anyone taking a toddler to any Disney parks must be insane out of their minds. They should be at least 8 or 9 year old to really appreciate it. Otherwise you are wasting your money. Plus it is almost criminal to put a toddler through 12 hours of it in the florida heat. I've see it. Florida Orlando weather is brutally hot and humid. I lived in Orlando and had year round tickets for the whole family. We would just go to EPCOT at night just to see the fireworks and leave. One thing that people do not even consider is lost kids. This happens all the time and kids do dissapear too, you just don't hear it. We had a routine whenever we saw lost kids. Me or the wife would stay with the kid and the other would go get a staff, any will do as they all had radios. We would not leave the kid alone until the park police would arrive and they come out of the woodwork and from behind bushes. We saved countless kids that way. It happens all the time. So watch your kids like a hawk when you do go.
