My notes on the build

Those TRS 80 Model 3 and 4's always intrigued me. Its awesome to see how open source electronics is moving forward to solve a boat load of issues on vintage hardware but also new technology with hickups
Yeah. These machines have been really a bit of a pain to get up and running, but the community is awesome and that makes it a lot better. Hopefully having solid state storage will allow me to keep these machines running trouble free for years to come.
Oh man, I only ever experienced the TRS-80 as school computers (all Model III). But even so, looking at all those titles flipping by my eyes picked out a lot of titles I have a lot of nostalgia for.
I don't have a TRS-80, but that's pretty cool and certainly makes me want to get one. The number of times I've had floppy disks or spinning disk hard drives fail on me, I definitely understand that SSD's are so much better. I can count on one finger the number of solid state storage devices that have failed.
Yeah. These computers were a little bit before my time but I'm definitely learning to appreciate them. Having something like this makes that a bit more enjoyable.
FOUR! In the scrap bin! God, I'd have been like "pinch me, I'm dreaming"... Good to see you've saved them from being genuine Trash-80s.
I love those red electrolytics... very... "bold"!
They have been a bit finicky over the years but still fun and I'm glad they didn't wind up in the trash
Looking forward to your cleaned up build info, not seeing it posted here yet.
Sorry about that I had it on my repo but forgot to link to it. github.com/mudmin/AnotherMaker/tree/master/frehd
Great presentation, thanks for sharing. Who is the nice Australian guy ? thanks again
His name is Ian Maverick and is super helpful. ianmav.customer.netspace.net.au/trs80/downloads.htm
Would you be able to post a link to the file you used to make your FreHD mounting bracket, that heavy duty bracket looked ace compared to most the designs I’ve seen out there.
I like your drive sled, do you perhaps have a design with both gotten and Fred together?
I want to keep my drive 0 as it works great my top drive needs replacing.
Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
It doesnt show how these are installed or where they are plugged in?
Do you still have FreHD kits available?
Hi there, I have a model 4 as well and it looks like your SD card is virtually perfect with a lot of the games and stuff. Wondering if I could pay you to send me a copy of the card or an image of the card I could use to write to a blank SD card? I have recently bought this and I haven't used one since the very early 80s and the work involved to get the files from my disks over the the FreHD does not seem to be trivial and I am a bit overwhelmed. Please let me know if this is an option at all. Looked online and haven't yet seen anyplace that sells premade FreHD SD cards or sells images.
Happy happy to do that. My contact information is on my channels about page
Where can I get a combined FreHD/GOTEK sled for one 5 1/4 bay???
I 3d printed mine from thingiverse.
I might have missed it, but will this work on the Model 4P (portable)?
It does and I believe it also works on the model 3 and model 1.
The freHD works great on a 4P. I have one on my 4P and my 4D.
There is no link for Ian's site ?
I feel like his site was down when I made the video
Oh i am sorry to hear retro computing is so hard for you and you need to adapt it to satisfy your modern millennial expectations of technology.
I love floppy disks more than most but they are decomposing and becoming less reliable by the day. Without devices like this, these machines would be rendered useless.
