I have the TPT slide with the pocket clip. Really like it thus far and it’s perfect for the watch pocket. I had forgotten how effective a utility blade could be, as you put more pressure at the tip, vs further back on a recurve blade. I’m not carrying my folder as much. Relegated the silly fork thing to the junk drawer. Much more willing to abuse the utility blade as i have a backup by flipping the blade. If I destroy it, it’s just $1/blade. I showed it to a tactical focused coworker with full disclosure on price... now he wants one. Build quality is very good and tight: an internal magnet absorbs rattle and the slider nubbin tension can be adjusted with a lever spring. There are other options out there at prices higher or lower. But I don’t see what the fuss is all about for something milled out of titanium sold by an American company. Particularly when some folks spend $$$$ for a boutique folder.

I quite like mine. It is a bit more expensive than it's worth (I'd feel better at $40 or so), but it's a much better option functionally and economically than the Rexford RUT that defined the market niche. Most of the people who get these things are A) into titanium and exclusive gadgets, and B) carry a really nice knife and would prefer to have disposable blades around for abusive tasks. This isn't really marketed toward the general populace; if you aren't super crazy about high end materials, features, and fit/finish, a $10 Gerber EAB is sufficient.

I bought one of these when ITS first offered them. I carry it everyday and have been happy with it. The fact is that titanium is expensive. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for sometimes. For me, it's light and takes up almost no room in my pocket. Also keeps my defensive blade from getting dulled opening boxes. To each his own, I respect your opinion.

The frequent traveler comment is the number one reason. This is an idea premium EDC option for travelers that can be used as a primary traveling and a secondary when at home. Many people live in and out of airports so this is a welcome and perfect option.

I ended up going for the Gil-tek Ruk v2. In aluminum it’s a fraction of the cost. For the same kinda functionality. But the Ruk can be deployed quicker, with a single hand - no fiddling around to pull the blade out!

You are 100% right, you could easily find a very capable utility knife/tool for under $20. Having said that, a lot of people are carrying a utility knife everyday as a companion to their EDC and don't want to give up that pride in their tool. Thank you for the great videos.

This is why I appreciate and value your channel... Good, honest reviews. I have seen some channels try to actually praise this thing! Just because it's expensive doesn't make it great! I just recently purchased a K1 utility knife. Its similar but stainless steel so it was only like $16. So far I'm happy with it.

I have a Gil Tek RUK in aluminum, brass and I have a titanium one on backorder. They work really well and changing blades is pretty easy. No need to disassemble, no tiny screws or buttons.

Good thing that it has the lanyard hole. That way you have something to hang on to while you're swinging it around over your head to throw away. ITS Tactical does have a lot of other gear that's pretty good/unique though. Glad you reviewed it!

Being in a wheelchair makes A.H's "Think" your an easy victim, I was attacked and couldn't get my Knife out in the fight, I was able to use the Prybar end to Destroy his Elbow and Throat. I scratched that pocket utility knife itch with a WorkPro utility knife. Its a cheap Chinese-made stainless steel folding knife, but it's very lightweight and doesn't take up much room in the pocket. Because it folds, it's long enough to fit better in my hand than the TPT would when unfolded, and it's only about $15 for 3 of them on Amazon.

Its a useful tool if you fly on a regular basis for quick trips where you don't check a bag. Just pop the blade out at your house or hotel. stick the tool back in your pocket and fly. once you get back on the ground pick up a blade at your destination or if you're back home grab your favorite edc blade.

You’re paying for American design, American made and titanium, it’s geared towards the edc community, where some people carry a $400 pry bar, so $70 for a utility knife isn’t out of the norm. That being said I do agree that it’s over priced, but then again I think that just about everything in this world is overpriced. If people are willing to pay than who are we to judge. That being said I own one and I love it, it’s in my pocket everyday and keeps my nicer pocket knives sharp

Agreed, I like the concept of how the allow the blade to be installed without tools, but the price point is too steep. That and I'm willing to bet those teeth on the wrench portion aren't that durable and will "round out", if used with any regularity, for titanium unless special heat treatment is under taken (And I doubt it is), it can be too soft for that application.

  • @kevinharrison6572
    @kevinharrison6572 7 років тому +1

Great video once again Aaron! But, I'm left with a few questions LOL Overall how was blade stability? For it's size comparatively, how was blade stability during cutting tasks and blade lock in the closed position? I know the cheap ones over time and use get sloppy, start to rattle, blade not as secure when exposed that sort of thing. So the cost with these has left me to beleave it's the price of guaranteed longevity of blade functionality. Did this product at least convey that quality?

  • @StarDarkAshes

It would be better if it was one that held those mini razor blades and it was smaller and cost about 30 bucks. I think that would be a decent idea and it could have sort of a longer handle to get more leverage

you could spend $300 on a chefs knife, or you could buy a $20 knife. Why buy the $300 knife? because, that's why. Because it's better, because it's an investment into something you love. Because this. Because that. Because it's better than the other in every way but the price.

I own one of these; I think it's close to useless: the wrench can only be used on flat surfaces, strength of titanium is not needed and you end up with... a blade for 70 bucks... :-(

Different stroke for different folks I guess. If dropping 70 to 200 bucks on a small piece of titanium is doable to you the have at it. There is a market for this stuff.

The weight different between SS and Ti for something this size is marginal and seriously not worth the cash. I agree that this lacks value at least in my pocket.

I have had a few of these type of tools. Then I asked myself, why? I really never needed any of them for anything. Gave one to my wife, threw out the other one. To me they are hype that really serves no purpose. Buy a small leatherman tool Ray....Oklahoma
