I had to Google that Stiltskin album and, surprisingly enough, it's grunge. I honestly had never heard of them before. Thank you for exposing me to them cause grunge is my favorite genre.
Hi Brendon!! another cool and cold trip to the record store?? and thanks for the field trip through the Big Apple and Madison Park trivia too. cheers and be well
Great find and Brendon, really cool work digs. I’m liking the work area with all the different screens and other things. I did take intro to Drafting in high school and found it quite interesting. After all I am Left handed which makes me by definition creative. Lol. I do write my own songs play an instrument Keyboard. I’m mostly self taught, I took lessons which I was living in Germany between 1988-1990. Then I came back to the US with my family to Tampa area. My mom is still in Fl.
I used to hit up Academy lots in NY. The brooklyn one was amazing. Also went to the one in the east village. Picked up alot if classic hip hop back then at decent prices. Gap fillers and singles for my golden era collection.
Looks like another cool place to buy records and cd's. That Stiltskin cd from 1994 you showed us is very rare and hard to find. You cannot even stream the album at Apple/iTunes, Amazon or Google Play. I wonder how much that cd was? I couldn't see the price sticker (blurry.) Very rare to see the Box of Frogs cd, too. $12.99 for a 2 on 1 cd, or was the price even more than that? I'd say $13 is not too bad of a price, given the fact that I never see that album, especially when it's on cd. Glad it was you and not me that went in there. I would have been in there browsing until the time the place closed for the day. And I'd likely leave the place with an empty wallet. Hope you got to pick up a bite to eat at one of those concession stands or food trucks you passed on your way over there.
The prices of most items were accurate in that they are out of print and rare editions. But the average person won’t know that and the prices may be too high for someone to take a chance on it if they don’t know exactly what they are getting. So it limits who will buy it which is not what they should be doing. But yes the Stiltskin with Ray Wilson (Genesis) is very hard to find and also very good.
I'm surprised that not finding much you want or need doesn't happen more often considering how much you've already got. It frequently happens to me and I've only only got about 2,400 CDs. But I guess it's a function of how much you want and unless I think really want to listen to something multiple times I tend not to want it taking up space. I continue to really enjoy these episodes of going to stores though. Fun stuff. Thanks.
Well if you watched the previous visit to Bookoff, even though I found 17 items, most were compilations because I already own whole catalogues of those artists. It does happen on every trip but usually I find 3 to 4 items. This was a rarity that I only walked out with one and that it was a compilation without anything special. But it does happen and that’s ok. I’m sure the next visit will make up for it.
Great video Brendon. You should do more of these. How far is the park from the current MSG site? I lived in Nashville for 11 years, but never made it up to NY. No reason…I just loved where I was living too much to venture away lol. Also really enjoy seeing these different record stores. I’d lose hours. It’s nice to see places you wouldn’t otherwise know exist. I know they aren’t something you’d normally cover on the channel, but have you ever heard that Crowded House album from the video? Perfect stylised pop music. They are kiwis but they may as well be an Aussie band….have a huge soft spot for them. Cheers from Sydney 👍
Actually I’ve done 17 of these videos already, see link the playlist folder for all of them ua-cam.com/play/PLXugCGslmwqlH4ovvscmUZzZRGQQzlPcW.html and everything I show in the video I either own or buy during the episode. So yes I already own the Crowded House album.
Hey B great tour as always and particularly luv the sites of NYC. Here in Oz in the buy swap sell stores most CDs are priced at $1 - $4 where as vinyl has had become more popular the pricing of used items have gone thru the roof. I buy to listen and collect. Never sell. J 🤩
Well with over 250 locations I’m not surprised! I do like the park locations best. The ones in freestanding buildings as opposed to just ones on the ground floor of a building or larger establishment. But that’s because I started with this location in Madison Sq Park so I have fond memories of it as the first.
That was cool. I always enjoying seeing the sights on your trips in New York City. I really love that Box Of Frogs album, and Rough Mix, by Ronnie Lane and Pete Townsend, and I actually prefer Keith Richards solo albums over a lot of the latter-days Stones stuff. That's a nice find you got there. My son really likes Deborah Harry's KooKoo album, but I think it has more to do with the cover art by HR Giger, who he's a big fan of.
The cover art is really powerful. Album covers like that almost don’t exist today in the digital world. But back during vinyl, the big album cover was a big deal and the more striking the better. Especially if you’re looking to try and pull in new fans. And her album did just that.
Very cool video. I love the stroll through the City. I need to ask what CAD program you are using? I am also an Architect. I work for myself and I use ArchiCAD.
Hi Nicole! What’s state or country do you work in? I use AutoCAD 2019 version. It’s the industry standard and in my opinion much more intuitive. But I guess it’s all in what you’re trained on.
Hi Brendon, I noticed that you picked out blackfoot strikes cd but didn't buy it. Do you already have it in your collection? One of my favorite Jacksonville Florida bands and I read that Rickey medlocke hired another band from north Carolina calling them blackfoot. You can go on you tube and watch a concert of them doing the song left turn on a red light. I emailed the band and they told me that they will be going into the studio to record a brand new album. Can't wait for that.
Yes anything I show that I don’t buy is some thing already in my 11,000 CD collection. I actually own their entire catalogue and then some. I’m a big fan of Ricky Medlocke.
Awesome! Is that "chair/tree" exhibition something permanent? I walked in that neighbourhood (actually went to that record store), but don't remember those chairs...Just got an Lp of "Master's Apprentices " (s/t) today. Cheers!
Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto IV and Liberty City Stories all take place in Liberty City, which is a parody of New York. In GTA IV, it also takes place in Alderney which is a parody of New Jersey.
Great video Brendon, is it possible to show where Kiss Dressed To Kill cover was taken and other iconic album covers Physical Graffiti? Never been to NYC so not sure of the logistics. Take care Russ 👍
Hi Brendon, Just to clarify things as a fellow New Yorker, Madison Square Park was named after President Madison. And it never housed Madison Square Garden. I love your show and videos. Keep it up.
Just know if I show it in the video but don’t buy it, it means I already own it. In the case of the Georgia Satellites, I have it on CD so didn’t need the vinyl.
Visited this shop this last December. It was a nice little shop. It was my second visit to NYC. You seem like a nice guy unlike lol. NYC has seemed to have some of the rudest people I’ve ever been around.
Just curious how you feel about the cardboard packaging. I have nowhere the amount of CDs you have (who does?) but the cardboard ones seem to ruin the orderly display of my collection.
Yes I’m not a fan at all of the cardboard or digipaks. If you watch enough of my videos you’ll see me rant about it. My biggest issue is that if it gets damaged you can’t replace it like you can a jewel case. I don’t like how easily they can get damaged in shipping too.
I have that Keith Richards cd on vinyl, I bought it at Rebel Rebel records years ago. If you’re an older New Yorker, then you will know the record shop I’m talking about. Academy records on 18th doesn’t have the selection they use to have especially for records. They also jacked up the prices too much on common stuff. I miss the old store employees and Frank the manager. Your lucky you found one cd, I hardly ever find anything nowadays at Academy, 12 street Academy is the best and there not related businesses partners. Prediction for 2022, they will close by the end of the year, sorry but I can feel it when I walk in there. Manhattan needs more record stores.
Everywhere needs more record store! I’d love to see a resurgence in the stand alone record store due to vinyl. Unfortunately I think the vinyl resurgence may be hitting its peak and it too will taper off.
Can you design us a new record store that actually has stuff like Tangerine Dream and John Mayall? I can't find one out here on Long Island. The stores here suck ass. The problem is I rarely buy "common" CDs or vinyl anymore, rock or pop, unless it's filling a major hole in the collection. I'm usually after more estoric stuff these days.
@@willd4731 I went to the orig. location or 2nd location about 7 years ago, the one in the industrial park, they had a phenomenal selection of CDs and vinyl at the time. The last time I went to the new Record Stop location, they had absolutely downsized, and the prices on some things were sky high, such as the Bowie New Career box set (which the mastering was botched on I might add). I mean the CD version of it. Anyway, as someone else mentioned they don't even have a blues section there. I wasn't super impressed the 2nd time. They do have some good old punk vinyl and metal there though.
Unfortunately the two artist you mention are rather non-mainstream and so most people aren’t going to be looking for their albums no matter how good they are. Stores have to stock what sells. It’s just the nature of the business even though we wish it was just based on good music.
@@BrendonSnyder Indeed that's true. But back when we had places like Tower or Virgin or Other Music, and whatnot in the city or NJ or elsewhere, you could find all kinds of esoteric and obscure artists. Nowadays, it's usually online or nothing, unless you're lucky enough to live in a place or city that still has some pretty far-out shops. LI doesn't even have a decent flea market any longer. Oy vey. I'm long past mainstream, myself, that's part of the problem in my case. Although as far as my guitar work goes, I still sit here and practice Boston and stuff like that...Genesis, YES, you name it, so go figure! Love those "Let's go to the record store" videos!
Glad you’re enjoying them! 17 done and more to come!
A nice walk in the park... And the record shop looked like one I really would like to visit 😀👍

Glad you enjoyed it Thomas!
Such a lucky guy to have so many record stores to visit , verrrryyyy Jealous
I do count my lucky stars often!
I love that store! Peace.

Rik Emmett's "Resolution 9" I had high hopes for , but was disappointed. I'm a huge Emmett fan too. Beautiful scenery by the way.
I had hoped for a return to form album but was not the case. Still a good album but just not representative of what most people expect from him.
Great show ! U inspired me to take a trip into Manhattan today and go music hunting !!
There is nothing quite like it! Enjoy and have a great time!
