That actually is... It's a David Bowie's song. They used it in The Martian movie...
Even SpaceX did a Starman's montage using that song

The best thing to do is not reply to mean or negative comments. Replying just makes it stick with you more.
@@user-el6ve2rl9b How does that make you look like a coward ?
Thanks for you work...you (and spacex) are the reason i decided to study space travel/ exploration.
Love this channel. Not sure what comment(s) y'all are referencing but this is YOUR channel created by you to share with us what YOU find interesting and exciting. If one upload is not interesting to someone, the choice to make negative statements about you and your channel rather than move TF on is just a reflection of them and who they are. Keep up the great work!
I love how you do your live streams, with the intro music and countdown. I haven't seen anyone do it as elegantly as you. I also greatly enjoy watching you play KSP in addition to your science videos. Although many times you are using KSP to help illustrate science.
Today I went to see the Endeavor. It was breathtaking.

I am so glad to hear what you said about negative comments. I have had them my whole life. Even now at the age of 50 it still happens. It has affected me so much that I have all mirrors in the house pointing up so I can only see my hair for brushing & not my face. Its that bad that if I do see my face, I feel so sick and have on occasions vomited. People say things that them and their friends laugh between themselves and walk away & their "Fun" lasts less than 1 minute to them, but I am thinking king of it for days non stop.
I've had 27 leg operations in the last 13 years & had metal cages holding my leg together. I have had people,e drive by me shouting things like "Cripple" and "Run Forrest, Run". I must admit I did find the last one quite funny for a few minutes but after 2 weeks of replaying it in my head, it soon wore off.
So thankyou for bringing it up. It does help people like me see that people can be thoughtful.
Thanks & sorry for taking up your time too much.
Don't you also need the making history expansion for the ep-50 engine plate?
It's pretty cool that this is a program. An also that even with magically summoning and fast forwarding, this is almost a four hour mission.
“Maybe they’ll survive” famous last words
Last night I had a dream that I needed to go to a friends house. So I turned away from his house and ran as fast as I could in the opposite direction until the curvature matched my friends location. Then I glided along the line to his house and woke up.
Do I need help stopping this KSP problem?
I once dropped a mug in the morning and legitimately though to myself "I'll just quickload...", took me a while to realise that's not how it worked.
@@AnEnglishPerson That depends on how often you play KSP. It definitely happens.
I enjoy your videos so much. Takes me back to a previous lifetime where I worked for The Aerospace Corporation (Space Science Labs) and Geospace Research. I designed computer systems and software for data taking during experiments. Got out into the field a lot. Only got to a few launches, though. There was a SCUD launch out of Wallops Island and there is nothing like experiencing sound as pure vibration. It was so exciting. Did a lot of USAF & NASA sponsored research. I work in a very different field now, and feel that I was born to do what I'm doing. Still get nostalgic for the old days, though, and your videos help feed that part of me that used to get excited.
Rotating those rcs thrusters 90 degrees like that is freaking genius. I wish I had thought of that myself, lol. Going to have to use that!

Mr. Astronaut, thanks for taking the time out in this cast to meaningfully and thoughtfully address youtube negativity / toxicity. You're right, and it won't go away until confronting it like that becomes the norm.
It was cool to see you get in another question on a spacex video!
Hi Tim, can you recommend a book on rocket tech? I mean engine construction, propellants etc. Nothing overly in-depth, but rather something to start with...
Thanks. Stay awesome!
Le way Jawsz had a go at me on a surfboard once. That whole rocket u have there, could be my Right thybone
Him Tim, long term lurked here, love your content here and on OLF. You've helped renew my interest in spaceflight. Just one thing solar power on Mars is just over half that on Earth. We lose a surprising amount here to the atmosphere its something like 590 watts per square meter on Mars vs 1000 here.
Ksp is really nice... like it :D

really cool how the end of this ended like SN8s test flight...well before adding fuel
You should have dropped all the payload and ISRU mass on Duna. That would make the return flight a lot easier.
How?

Commercial access to the moon, space etc. does not concern me. What concerns me is the militarization of space. Suddenly all funding will go to the Space Force and all of this live video we have become accustomed to will get restricted and slowly but surely we will be kept more and more in the dark about what is going on up there. Just to let you know I am a US Marine 89-94 and I love the Corps and the military but I also know first hand how this works. Keep NASA and their commercial partners moving forward.
Without the military, there is no space travel. Governments and the economic power of individuals exists and is attainable do to governments allowing it. 99.9% of any space exploration was for military purposes. Yes, we want to picture a utopian society with unicorns and pink rainbows coupled with rockete and other space technology that operates in pixie dust. These are messy polluting vehicles, that existed for military purposes. Nuclear missiles adapted. Yes, beware the industrial military complex but, too much power and profit is involved. (I will add, Elon is a profiteer. Nothing he does is for the betterment of humanity, but for profit. All the fancy names for his technology again, don't run on pixie dust and are designed for profit.) As much as I enjoy this and him for entertainment, reality exists. It's not a posted video game or simulation.
I disagree as well. The only difference is that "Space Force" will be it's own entity instead of just being a branch of the USAF.
Wre cked I do know the history of space. I was born at Edwards AFB, CA in 1968 & I have been passionate about jets and rockets since I can remember. However Space Force is an escalation I am not comfortable with and yes I know I am on the losing side of this argument but I feel it is an argument that should be heard and taken seriously. I think this will wipeout NASA in the long run and instead of scientist taking the military to space it will be the military taking scientists to space. And that is not good for our society in any way. Finally I do understand this is a pipe dream as China and India flex their muscles in space (thank you Pres. Bill Clinton and Bush 43 both had their hands in that).
Z3R0 CHANC3 my concern is Space Force leaching what little funds NASA gets today and we are left with Space Force and Commercial endeavors only and not free unencumbered Science. Once it is up and running I can hear now “why do we need NASA? They are slow indecisive and poor managers of our funds”.
HaNooo well I will be polite and let you believe what you want about myself. However are we not all profiteers? If you had Elon’s ability to produce and lead would you not expect to be paid well if not extravagantly for it? And if someone is going to profiteer while cleaning up our earth however little his rockets damage I do believe his Tesla’s balance that. I am honestly not looking to be right on this. It is more about exploring what this will do down the long road we are about to travel. When we talk about space we have to think past ourselves and our generation this is something that cannot be realized in several lifetimes.

Great video!
Only a 7 year long mission, almost to the day.
lol...the way you keep saying that... the ev'ryday astro-nut... i love it! xD
When you finally build a rocket in Real Life
You need to add a model 3 to the stack for transportation when you get there.
Wait so how will SpaceX get starship from Mars to Earth without Super Heavy? Will they mine?
Install throttle controlled avionics, it adds no parts, but adds a configurable autopilot system with modules
It can land anything pinpoint without landing legs
Fooey on the details! Drive this baby to Moon. Mars/moon are great places to try space elevator.
lol SN8 needed a little more fuel too, over a year later and some of your crashes looked like the real test!
23:18 that landing would predict the future of what starship 12.5 km launch did
which keeps the question unanswered: how does the starship land safely on unpredictable ground on another planet?
The ground on another planet isn't unpredictable, we know quite well how the ground is on Mars from many robotic missions. We have ultra high definition imagery and different type of "under surface scan". Probably like the moon lander, some kind of pole or probe will be under starship, so he can swerve last minute to a backup location if the planned location isn't suitable
One could also carry a few small probes and launch them from starship while approaching Mars, making them crash in the planned landing sites, watching the images of the crash could give a fairly accurate idea of what's under the sand
Lots of sensors to examine the terrain as you come in for landing and compare that to previous data from orbiters. Then once the first ship lands, it will have as beacon that guides the other ships in
Yes!!!! Come to Stockholm Sweden!!! ✌️😬✌️🇸🇪 I volunteer to show around! The least I can do for all this entertainment you given me. :)

I love you man! Moar kerbal please. You are the best youtube channel

Great mission! I feel like you may have had enough to land if you lowered your pitch to 80-75 deg., maybe more, to pick up some lift (after reentry heating) thus giving you more air time to bleed off speed. Still awesome though!
