It is stated that on the demand of Ali, Uthman addressed the people in the Prophet's mosque; admitted his mistakes; prayed for the forgiveness of Allah and the people; and undertook to make amends within three days. It is said that on this occasion Uthman wept and the audience wept with him. The accounts continue that under the influence of Marwan b Hakam Uthman retracted from his repentance, and did not make any amends. Uthman and Ali had another meeting at which Ali accused Uthman of breach of faith. Ali felt deeply annoyed, and said that that was the parting of ways between them.

Today we see similar situation, small group trying to cause fitnah on fiqh and divide muslims. Remember - At-Tirmidhi (2167) narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah will not cause my ummah to agree on falsehood; the hand of Allah is with the jamaa‘ah (the main body of the Muslims).” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani. Meaning ummah will not gather upon misguidance

Uthman radiallahuanhu had no blame to anything but his governors did do some things ehich allowed fitna to start such as muawiyyah radiallahuanhu did make mistakes which allowes the rebel to use this against him ali radiallahuanhu also suggested let me fight them but uthhman radiallahuanhu again proved the great man he was by refusing to fight
