That we get this high level of expert instruction on such a broad array of violin and related topics, is truly a gift for which I am thankful. I am 64 and just beginning. Im surprised at the precision of coordinated movements that are required. Im happy with my progress, thanks to you. Regarding wrist vibrato, I am a bit unclear regarding the movement of the top end finger joint. You seem to suggest it just moves naturally. (I do not have arthritis) Well i get vibrato but no movement of finger tip joint and too much instrument movement. I looked at another accomplished violinist and they clearly move the tip joint( knuckles up and then to laying flat on fingerboard as a common excercise.) Can you clarify/isolate the desired movement of the finger tips. Thankyou and peace and happiness and continued success to u and yours.
Hi! I’m an amateur and in need of help with my left hand position. I am very confused as to how high my knuckles should be, angle of the knuckles, position and height of the thumb, fingertip point of contact, just left hand posture in general. I’m certain this is one of the reasons my vibrato is suffering and would love any help.
It would be very nice if you can explain how violin techniques (like Martele, Sautille, Spicatto, Staccato...) shall be mostly illustrated in music sheets! Do you have any recommendations for books that I should refer to regarding this question! Thank you very much for all of your great works!
Please make a video about the contact point between the fingers and the finger board ( which part of my finger tip should exactly hit the string .... Thank u
Hello Julia. I would like to see a video explaining how to study efficiently. I'm an amateur violinist and I don't have five or six hour for practicing because I have family, job, duties and many things that allow me to practice only for 2 hours in the best case. I would like to know how to make the most with this time. How you prepare a piece? How much time should I dedicate to learn technique? How to be focus on the task and not play the violin in auto-pilot... Thanks in advance.
hello julia, I have written to you before to express my curiosity about the Russian school of the violin since there is very little that is spoken in my country about it. I know it's something unusual, but given the conditions in which I was trained, I turned out to be something like an antiviolinist. It is very good to listen to what you say about freedom and the pure expression of music through the violin, I feel that my way of playing is something like that, but sometimes I have disagreements with some teachers and the musical context in my city, my path as a violinist is a little bit uncertain, not because I do not know how to play, but because my way of being musically does not seem to fit anywhere. Thanks for your videos, they have been very useful, I would like to have a more direct contact with you and discuss these issues.
Dear Julia, Thank you so much for your wonderful and helpful videos. After a break of more than 20 years I have started playing again this year (what a joy). I am now working on my vibrato and have also seen your video about it. I noticed that when I am doing dry exercises, my left hand is very relaxed and it is easy to do a nice and soft/relaxed vibrato. However, as soon as I engage the bow at the same time, my left hand gets tense and I am not able to stay as relaxed with the left. Why is this and is there something I can do? Also, I am experimenting with tone production on very high notes, which still often sound scratchy with me, not sweet. I noticed that the less bow I use the nicer the tone comes out. Not just less weight (none applied on top of the weight of the bow itself) but also lenght of the bow. Is this right? Can you give more advice on how to improve sound on the high notes (high positions on the E String)? Again thank you! Charlotte

love your videos. Thank you so much!
The best way to learn accurate intonation on the violin, especially in the upper register of each string.
