Hey Folks , good to see you all in the Christmas spirit! Keegan, as a fellow longtime sufferer of back issues, a word of advice--if you feel one leg or other suddenly weaker or with numb patches, get in for a new MRI immediately. My L5 blew out and the vertebra pinched down on my nerve for my right leg-massive pain and couldn’t move the leg at all. Fortunately got into surgery pretty quickly , and the disc reconstruction went great--I had a full recovery but very scary!!

Bad backs are nothing to hone over. I had a partial disc removal at L4/5. Stenosis at L3/4 and a fluid cyst at L1/T junction. NO FUN..... Take care.

As your self-declared American bestie from Massachusetts, USA, I was shocked to learn that kids could drink alcohol in Britain in the home starting at the age of 5! The Hirst-Wood family is teaching the world. Merry Christmas! And your tree looks great! I love Fletcher's "F" decoration & the Diet Coke one. Very cute indeed. Thanks for sharing!

It would be nice to get an ornament from the different places you travel to so when you hang them up each year it’s a little reminder of it. Although it might be harder to find if you go away off season.
Oh Keegan, I feel for you! In 2013 I herniated L5-S1, and in 2014 L3-4. Luckily, I got sufficient improvement with PT and didn't need more aggressive treatment. Believe it or not, Qi Gong/Tai Chi really helped with fluidity of movement in a safe, gentle way.

New family, new traditions and lots of happiness for the Christmas season. As far as children drinking at home with parental supervision, I say great! In small quantities and it teaches children to drink in a responsible manner; showing kids what to look forward to when they reach adulthood. I think that people who don't teach their kids about liquor are the kids who go off and drink away from supervision. I was bar tending when I was 12 or so, mixing martinis and whatnot under the watchful eye of my mother, step monster and my father when he visited. Growing up, I was allowed an occasional sip of my mother's cocktail, usually a martini and loved the martini soaked olives. It was only in the 1980's that American society went all "Carrie Nation". 😀🐕🐶🏘🎄🍸🍸
FYI , Keegan , I had surgery about 26 years ago for the same spinal issue and I’ve not had any issues since. Frequent stretching and exercise definitely helps.

Checked all the comments making sure I wouldn't be doubling any fellow Dutchies around here. 😄 Advocaat dates back to the 17th century and consists of eggs, sugar, and brandy. 'Advocaatje met slagroom', or advocaat with cream in a glass (to be eaten with a small spoon), is what elderly ladies often have at, for example, a birthday party. In Germany people drink it at Christmas, cold or warm (Punch). Eggnogg, as Keegan mentioned, is different as it contains more ingredients, most importantly milk. We normally don't drink it like that, although by now it might have been imported as a tradition by some families. All in all, advocaat is an iconic product in the Netherlands, but it is also considered slightly comical.

In the southern states, bourbon is also another common option to add to eggnog. Southern Living also adds cognac as an option, and Spruce Eats adds rye whiskey as an option. Spruce Eats also says not to rule out tequila or vodka.
I have tried other liqueurs in eggnog such as grand marnier, triple sec, frangelico, amaretto, kahlua, creme de cacao, creme de menthe, or irish creme, each of which makes a nice change for a little variety. One can also mix and match various combinations of liqueurs with any of the traditional choices of brandy, rum, bourbon, whiskey or cognac.
Flavored or spiced rums can work as well.
I grew up in the south and traditionally it was brandy or rum, but that was long ago way back in the 20th century,lol. You can put anything you want or like in your nog, and apparently you have,lol. Just so you know Cognac is Brandy.

@@bkm2797 I grew up in Virginia in the 1960s and 70s, and bourbon or rum were the usual additives for eggnog when and where I grew up. I'm sure there are many variations among different regions and even among different families within a region.
Just so you know, I know that cognac is a type of brandy, but it is a very special type of brandy, which I think is why Southern Living called it out separately to distinguish it from other brandies.
As the Remy Martin website states, "Brandy is a spirit often made by distilling fermented wine. However, there is no internationally recognized definition and outside the EU it is sometimes made with other fruits. Examples of brandy include pisco, armagnac or Obstler (a brandy produced in Austria and Switzerland). Cognac, however, is always made with grapes and has a very specific distillation and blending process located in a small, protected area in the southwest of France."

Kentucky in the 50's, and cognac is still brandy, and why would you waste Courvoisier, Hennessy or Remy Martin in an eggnog, I wouldn't, but I guess that's what makes the world go round. Thanks for the mini class on cognac vs. brandy.🥃
Had a bottle of Advocaat bought for me last year and as yet is unopened - however I am thinking of making an egg custard and replacing the cream/milk with the advocaat.

What a beautiful Christmas tree! It gives me such joy to see your lovely blended family. And, did I hear Keegan right? Kids in the UK can drink at 5?? I’ve often thought that in the US we could stand to be more like Europe and make alcohol less taboo and therefore alluring to teens, but wow, that is definitely a lower age than I would’ve expected. The snowballs sound like a fun tradition. I might have to try one sometime.

I need a nausea pill to get through your videos and this one was the worst.
I know your kids were behind the camera for a little bit but you got to slow down the camera.
You also have to make sure that you have video stabilization on and you have a good phone.
These videos are almost unwatchable going back to the Florida trip you need a gimbal which they sell on Amazon you put your phone on it and it stabilizes it more holding it by your hand is a mess.
