Ok. How have I only read two of these? Adding many of them (The September House, firstly) to my TBR! I think my favorite of this year so far has been The Haunting of Velkwood! It was so creepy and while reading it with Julie and Amber (who both also loved it) we got to the end of a chapter and yelled "OMG NO WAY!" so many times hahahaha
Love the video and the ranking. My recommendation is between screaming and shrieking and it's the Graveyard Classified trilogy by Desmond Doane: The Dark Man, The White Knight, and In the Belly of the Beast. It's the rise, fall, and resurrection of The Graveyard Classified duo of ghost hunters. There are some buddy moments but scenes in the books had me making sure all my doors and windows were locked every night. Brrrr!
My favorite horror I've read so far this year, and the scariest one imo, is We Used to Live Here! I also do not get scared at all by books, but that one got me a little. Also I love Iain Reid, his books always make me a little scared
Great video concept! I would say you do not have to read the entirety of the Annhilation trilogy to make the assessment that you did. I found the first book to be the best of the 3 and that the secondary books "answered questions" but it was a bit dull and confusing. And i can't call this a recommendation but i was recently perusing a bookstore and saw a new haunted house novel - Model Home by Rivers Solomon which supposedly turns the trope on its head. Happy reading! 🎃
OMG! I agree with you! Monstrilio was less than one star for me! It made no sense at all. I can recommend a chucky horror book to you. The Terror by Dan Simmons. It is a survival horror book with lots of body horror. I was going to save that book for winter but I couldn't wait LOL! I love horror books set in winter! I also DNF'ed Murder Road LOL! Amazing Vid! Happy Reading HuggZ!
It sounds like I need to go to you for horror recommendations! I think the only horror book I’ve read is Slewfoot by Brom(of course it was fantasy horror lol). I absolutely loved it tho! Not sure what niches I should look for based off that one book tho 🤔
Oh man I really liked Horror Movie and really did not like The Night Guest😅😂 I’m with you on Murder Road though the more I think about it the more it was not worth reading and definitely would not call it horror. I would read something else from her though to give her another chance. Definitely going to have to check out some of your recs! 💜
@@leandrathetbrzero oh my gosh yes that’s a great idea! I have a few lined up for this month and could definitely prioritize one for a buddy read! I can message you! Also, i just started “We Used to Live” by Marcus Kliewer and it’s already giving creepy vibes and I don’t want to pick it up at night haha so it may be one you want to try for the “screaming” category. I’m not very far so I’ll let you know for sure once I get further!

I have The Haunting of Velkwood on hold through Libby! I should get it within the next 2 weeks! Hoping it fits with readathon prompts!

Such a fun video! I love the category twists you put in.
Also, that laugh at the end made me jump, I did not expect that. 😅❤
Love the video! So helpful. I have just put The Drowning Deep on my TBR.
Into the Drowing Deep is brilliant! I love the way you did each category
Love this! Definitely adding some books to my TBR! 🥰
I just picked up bury your gays from aardvark box and I’m so excited! Also I should try September house!
This is such a fun idea! Love this!!

Just started Into the Drowning Deep for the corn maze for mostly black cover ❤
Diavola is on my TBR. Hoping to get to it this month!
This is such a fun way to rank a genre !
I loved your not supposed to die tonight and I would say it’s shrieking but that could be because I have a high tolerance for horror

Ahh Shaina! We are going to need to do another buddy read, but make it horror this time, in hopes of finding a book we both can love!

Haunted house recommendation, something more psychological and disturbing rather than horror - House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski
