Ankita Pradhan, a lawyer, fiancee of a serving army officer and the daughter of a Brigadier, speaks for the very first time, in detail about the horror she underwent in Odisha. She has alleged that she was beaten, molested and abused at a police station where she and Capt Gurvansh Singh had gone to file a complaint against a group of rowdy miscreants who attempted to misbehave with them on the road.
The incident has had the military community up in arms.
The Chief Minister has met the couple even as the police also counter attack Ms Pradhan.
"My character is being attacked but I will fight this till the end," she says to Barkha Dutt. "That's what we were taught- how to be survivors"

Just think she is a daughter of a retired Army Brigadier , and fiancé of a serving Army Captain with his presence and she is a Lawer herself, even then such brutality was committed on her, then think about the lesser privileged men and women in India. No one is safe in India from brutal police men, especially in BJP ruled states. The criminal police men and police women are unfit to wear their govt uniforms any more.

This is one of the most shocking incidents in recent times. Unlawful restraint of a lawyer and a serving army officer........ By the police. Heads need to roll. They need to be suspended. And whoever has designed a police station without CCTV cameras in spite of supreme court ruling needs to be sacked. The entire police machinery all the way to the top needs to answer how they built a police station without any cctv cameras.

I am from Odisha and I don't think she is lying. She is an empowered and educated today's woman who has a voice. Some men just can't take it. They get intimidated by strong willed opinionated women. And if a man or a woman talks in English with them, these Policemen tend to get terribly intimidated by it and start abusing the victims by calling them with many derogatory obscene names. I faced it myself back in 2016. These Policemen are extremely corrupted and have political connections too.

Now the Army top brass should intervene and do what was done in 1970s during Manekshaw days with police. Unfortunately now the Army Generals are selling their soul and no longer respected. They started to lick Modi's feet to get promotions and all chamchas and chutias are becoming Generals and Chiefs. The result is for all to see how army slodiers, officers are being abused across the country by Modi, Shah, RSS, police and Gundas combination of Hindu Rashtra. They will be suspended briefly and reinstated. There is great loyalty amongst these thugs. Look what happened with the wrestlers. We have been putting criminals in our parliament who in turn protect these so called people who are supposed to defend the citizens. The story of Mahabharat is being repeated.

WHY President Murmu is SILENT now ⁉️⁉️⁉️
She was also SILENT in MANIPUR, RUDRAPUR, Uttrakhand, BADLAPUR , Maharashtra etc matters, now again she is SILENT in BHARATPUR, Odisha matter, this matter is much more glaring as it allegedly happened inside the Police Station and allegedly perpetrated by the men in khakhi on duty of a BJP RULED State, WHY President Murmu is SILENT, WHY⁉️⁉️⁉️
But, on receiving some bhrama gyan she spoke in the matter of RG Kar medical college & hospital, Kolkata. If against the heinous crime therein President Murmu can open her mouth, WHY can't she open her mouth now⁉️Similarly she can also Condemn this Odhisa matter, this is her home state as well. So WHY is she SILENT⁉️⁉️
Madam President, better NOT to indulge yourself in politically motivated matters or to say that, it is advisable to stay away from the much politicised matters so long as one is holding the highest Constitutional office of this country which is perceived to be a apolitical and highly respected office !
Although, the personal conduct & the language of this victim lady too has been highly questionable & condemnable, but that doesn't mean that the Police men too were supposed to respond with a highly questionable & condemnable conduct !

Normally people visiting police stations in India behave in a somber manner. The real gundas inside the PS in India are police men.
It seems due to her social status she must have behaved in a rude manner, which annoyed the police and they have her a blow back.
In this case both sides are wrong.
75 years gone post independence, it’s sad that still police dosent know how to behave with Citizens of India Sad yet it is true

I am from Odisha and happy that Ankita stood her ground but sad that she had to face the brute force of a self serving system. As an army kid myself, I applaud her courage. Having said so, it is about time the people of India thought of Police Reforms. I have nothing against police and will heartily applaud the bravery and commitment shown so so often by say J&K police, Punjab police, Mumbai police, CRPF, etc but reforms is a must. They have to understand that they have been employed to serve the people of India, not the system.

Police incivility and excess are very common nowadays. They all come from the brute sense that police can do anything. Lack of discipline and checks over police excessses and rampant corruption in the force are the root causes of these uncivilities. This brute force coupled with lack of education and civility makes police compel even the doctors follow their dictates.
Using brute force against lawyers by lower rung police at police stations has gone up.
Police must be trained to act as friends to society, not as a force flaunting arms, arrests and jails.
Police stations and police personnels must be places and persons of safety, security, honour and comfort; not those of fear, apprehension, distrust, mistrust, abhorrence and avoidance.
We seek to find in police the friends of the society. Let the administration make it a reality in near future, if not now.

These policemen and the politicians , who enjoy the freedom at the cost of their lives are so arrogant and brutal ,should be taught a nice lesson . My blood boils! Heads need to roll. The rot runs so deep, right from the miscreants on the road to the cops to the hospitals to the magistrate. What can we do as civilians, Ms. Dutt? Please let us know if there is anything proactive we can do. Thank you for bringing Ms. Pradhan's story to us. You let people speak, which is a great quality as a person and journalist.
Ms. Pradhan has great character and courage. But no woman, or indeed, person, should be required to prove this courage in such a traumatic, unjust way.
