Morning girls. You can get a ratchet windlass which will help with really stiff paddles. The lock on the Sleaford Canal (see my video) was like this. I made myself one and I made the handle so I could have it straight for extra leverage. Maybe you can get someone to make one. Might make life a bit easier for you.
I have to agree with you about the Oxford canal it is narrow but beautiful, you just have to start and finish early. Whoever built it 200 years ago made it narrow to save money and as there was a boatman ahead the blind tight corners were never an issue. The boats likely were slower when horse drawn as well. 👩🦳👩🦰😺😽. 🐴
Hi there NB's... Happy Wednesday... I loved this video. Yet again. So relaxing to watch...😊. Can't believe how green it still is . It's like the Nevada Desert up here...🧡. Thanks for informative yet funny insight to the workings of the locks. You really have got the hang of travelling permanently now. 🤗⛴🐶🐾
I have to agree with your take on the Oxford, especially where you have been recently. However, I also think you make it look even better with the video you capture and the way you edit it for presentation. I also enjoy your vlogs very much just for watching how you actually handle the boat. It all looks very smooth and accomplished.
Really glad you have come to appreciate the Oxford. This weekend has seen us head in the opposite direction Cropredy to Napton with our horn out of action! Thinking of you two at the blind bends/bridges Beep Beep!😊
Hope you've had a good cruise. Whats the levels like up that way? Everyone is really worried this way. Maybe we'll "bump" into you after we turn around.
Beautiful day for a cruise! Not knowing about, but hearing it much referred to, I researched Tesco on Wikipedia. Sounds like the Euro version of our US WalMart but on a smaller scale. I do hope it doesn't put lots of small shops out of business as WM has here in the states. Glad you found your hat Kath! 🍀
I think a lot of the big supermarkets have put the small shops out of business. Especially since some of them started opening their own branches on small scale for convenience. It’s a shame really.
Watched you on the paddles Viv has struggled with paddles . We suggest you stand side on to paddle so it's on your left or right not square on as you were doing. Also have u considered a ratchet windlass as the handle can be cocked as a normal windlass or straight giving mo leaverage. On part opening paddles particularly ground paddles it is pretty standard on the T&M some big double locks with fierce flows . Hope this helps or u could tell us to wind our necks in 🤗 we will still love u and your antics V&B
Another great video - thank you :) (I particularly liked the music: I'll have to check the linked site out.) Here's a speculation for you: if Tesco had branches in canal boats, would 30% of the rest of the traffic on the canals disappear? :)
Now that you've got the weather set, please note the recipe for many happy returns. Once you have the recipe sorted out, all adverse met events are obviously somebody else's fault.
We had a heat index of 109F today. One can go through a whole box of Sugar Free Popsicles and only visit the grocery at 2:00 a.m. Wear lots of sun block, ladies.
Ladies, Hat Overboard! Maybe Kath could play with sums as I think travel could be completely quiet. As go outboard electric the money saved on fuel costs would break even on the expense so quickly, Babies I would have to net them on the boat and feed them. Lovely video, Cheers
Pardon my ignorance of Narrowboating and lock operating but do they make a windlass with a longer handle to get more leverage when you're winding whatever it is that you're winding? Nice to see someone getting some warm weather we've had a viciously cold 15c morning here this July.
Working in bed counts. Just ask any Narrow boat with a red light on!! LOL Alice hid the hat because she is a naughty girl!! And yes you must share the work or it will be another “Anna did all the work and Kath just say on her bum!!” Have fun you two and avoid the dreaded bed death
My mom and I thank you for sharing your love of life and happiness on your canal boat journeys :) From Connecticut.
Thanks
It's nice that someone is still cruising the cut!

That was a lovely way to start the day! Thank you. I hope you’re moored up in the shade now x
We’ve tried several spots and finally found a massive tree!

Thanks for the tips. Will look at ratchet windlass. Also more spinach might work 😉

Working in bed is multitasking!

They may well do. On some locks the gap for the windlass is small so you get scuffed knuckles. There is no standards!!
So what fell and was it Munchy or Alice involved? I did think the engine seemed louder at times. Microphone placement?
No cats were to be seen! It was our coin pot filled with pennies. Engine may be a little unwell, we are investigating. 😢
Did you get to Tesco. It’s the first time I’ve watched someone go to Tesco’s 😁
Not made it yet.... Morrison’s is far closer to the canal and very well stocked!
Am I paranoid or have the creepy sheep been replaced by "creepy cows"?🐮
They are watching you, ladies, they are watching...👀

Awesome video girls
Thank you.
If we did that we wouldn’t hear you speaking
We love the videos but don’t like the awful music
Hi there, Thank you for loving the videos, I'm sorry you don't like the music, you could try muting.
I think that is the first time I have read where someone doesn't like the music. To be honest I have liked all the music so far. 👍
