Referees are not entitled to respect. They have to earn that and be made accountable for there mistakes like everyone else is. HOWEVER they are entitled to safety.
The standard of referees is absolutely abysmal, there's referees as high as national league that don't leave the centre circle all game, its shocking, why should they get any respect for a poor job
@goncaloamaral7846 so if you're a plumber come to fix a leak, you charge a fee and it isn't fixed, should I have to complete a degree in plumbing to be able to complain
It’s becoming obvious how awful these refs are and favouring certain teams, an average ref would at least be able to hide all these questionable decisions.
As a Liverpool fan, I wanted arsenal v spurs, to be a draw, the jenas comment is wrong, but what an over reaction by talksport, he said sorry, what else should he do, he called him a rude word, so what, grow up Simon, its a man's game, how upset is the referee really, not very much, the way your going on you'd think he assaulted him, it's not a big story. YnwA.
I have been playing and watching football for 57 yrs and I can say without any doubt that the standards of referring have NEVER been so low as now. VAR is destroying the game, removes any common sense or decision making of the referee and it allows them to defer accountability. Rubbish.
Ref support is a scouser... Explains everything. It's not mistakes though is it? Mistake implies accidental. It's intentional. Mike Dean literally admitted this only ago. When he said "I didnt want anthony taylor to have the hassle of having to correctly referee the game so I chose to turn a blind eye to cucurella hair pull." That is not a mistake it's match fixing.
He posted what we was all thinking at the time , he posted as a fan not as a pundit , get past it ffs these people just scout through peoples social media to find anything to talk about all day
Absolutely referees deserve to be shown respect..to reach the level of violence is disgusting. That being said.. the fa and local football authorities also need to teach their officials the same thing...some of the attitudes and lack of respect that they turn up to some of these grassroot clubs is also disgusting. I as a youth player was threatened by a ref..the same ref had been reported over 100 times before that and still nothing was done until he was caught match fixing. A couple of years ago an adult ref squared up to a 15yr old player from my local club. It goes both ways but you'll never hear them talk about it

So refs demand respect while simultaneously managing to get major and minor decisions categorically wrong in nearly every match this season? Am I the only one who thinks maybe players and fans would show more respect if they were actually good at their jobs? The refs this season have been dreadful.
Getting decisions wrong doesn’t mean it’s okay to abuse the ref, just like if you go to a restaurant and you don’t like the food, you don’t start abusing the staff’s. As for the kids thinking it’s funny the reffs being chased that issue is not just in sports, unfortunately we have major issues with respecting.
You are confusing respect with accountability.. Well if you make a mistake at work, don't you still want to be treated with respect by your work colleagues? If your children make mistakes you feel you are entitled to treat them with little or no respect through their whole childhood? It's just a game - it's not war

The refs are the most protected species out there. Jenas did wrong but it's so hurting on how rules change on a daily basis. What is a penalty in this game is not in the other game.
Anyone who chases ir abuses a ref should be arrested and banned, that doesn't take away from the fact the premier league refereeing is absolutely shocking and that includes VAR

Referees are not entitled to respect. They have to earn that and be made accountable for there mistakes like everyone else is. HOWEVER they are entitled to safety.
Quite right. most sensible comment on Refs I've read in ages.
You’re not entitled to respect!
@@ThatGuyThanuseveryone who is not corrupt is entitled to respect. Referees are corrupt so they don't get any.
Now referees can’t be criticised. Its a scandal.
Criticise yes... pundits calling names on sm and dad's chasing refs around the pitch..not allowed...😮
Simon Jordan criticizing Jermain Jenas, the snakey weasel that he is? I like him even more now. Simon absolutely spot-on once again.
Not defending Jenas here, but in this instance he was was correct - Vicario was lucky not have his leg broken.
The standard of referees is absolutely abysmal, there's referees as high as national league that don't leave the centre circle all game, its shocking, why should they get any respect for a poor job
having a precedent where these losers at sunday league games feel entitled to threaten referees is not going to make the standard any better
Do the job, ref a game, then come back to the comments.
Only so the bbc don't cancel him
They wont cancel him not the right colour
WRONG COLOUR
@@paulmichaelrichardson6582 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 soo true
@@dankiff4093hardly. John Barnes was cancelled by BBC.

Would Jenas have made that comment if the same penalty had gone in Spurs' favour ?
We all know the answer to that !
This ignores the problem of the incompetence of Premier League referees.
There are refereeing mistakes, but some of the decisions even with VAR in place are ludicrous.
It doesn't take a JENAS to know he's a box ticker.
Boom Boom....I thank you👏
Dishonesty is one thing. But dishonesty DISHONESTY is a whole new ball game.
Apparently he called the ref a shithouse SHITHOUSE. 😂
YnwA.
You clearly wasn’t listening to the conversation they had… 😂😂😂😂
@registame2878 as much as I could , I clearly agree with you.
Top pundit? No way.
Seriously? Pot/kettle/black
🤣 JJ didn't need to apologise, he was right
I have been playing and watching football for 57 yrs and I can say without any doubt that the standards of referring have NEVER been so low as now.
Double dishonesty? Wow that’s really dishonest.
He posted what we was all thinking at the time , he posted as a fan not as a pundit , get past it ffs these people just scout through peoples social media to find anything to talk about all day
But it does not make it right . Abuse of any kind is just no . Especially when you employed to give opinions on the game
So many high horseman in the comment section.
Jenas is starting to look like my granny.
Jenas a top pundit ? What have you been smoking Jim, hes mediocre at best.
Not a great pundit, and quite clearly revealed his true colours. Simon is right to point this out.
Dishonest people are always the first to call others dishonest. Stupid world we are living in. Disgusting
Weak, lightweight and Spursy as a player.
Weak, lightweight and Spursy as a pundit.
It goes both ways but you'll never hear them talk about it
Im thinking of being a referee but I feel like dealing with all the abuse is not worth it
Well don't then 👍
You must be thick-skinned as you will certainly receive abuse, however good you are.
Don't be like Steve, do it if you wanna do it.
Just do you job right then
do the job right and be sympathetic if you are in the wrong, but stand your ground and show as many cards as needed when players, managers or spectators dont respect you.
It’s wrong but that footage of the big man chasing the linesman is hilarious 😂
@@Easygoing560 Firstly they are adults or almost adults it was an U18 game and secondly they aren’t giving up their time they are being paid. Chill out
Unfortunately with football being such a working class sport, the respect and culture has always had its bad sides (looking at the hooligans that still exist). I dont enjoy Rugby, but we could learn a lot from that sport and the way they generally conduct themselves. Its a minority in the grand scheme of things, but its always been there in football.
You mean the english rugby fans that are famous for being a touring library
@@jackreilly4417 football is not that working class a steak brisket sandwich and a pint of lager at Blackburn is over a (score ) 20 sovs ffs i used to watch football on the terrace 83/84 for £3.50 yeah yeah I know. when I was a lad dont get cheeky or I will give it you young uns i can still have a f-------g row
Some people should not be aloud on social media jenas proves the point another woke bbc employee he needs sacking
So we can't criticise when they get it wrong now? We just let them get away with shocking officiating? They're very soon going to control how the game is played
They already do… players could control it by just playing
On the other hand, it's probably the most interesting thing he's ever said.
Simon Jordan must be the saint of this world
This is quite hilarious coming from the most hypocrite people when they talk about English footballers and sticking up for them 😂
If the ref knew the rules he should have given the pen himself instead of VAR
It was astonishing how long it took him to decide it was a penalty, Romero was also lucky to escape a red card as was Nketiah.
"effing & jeffing" I love Simon 😂😂
Sheffield United fans ran onto the pitch and chased the referee last Sunday...for not blowing the full time whistle after 35 minutes!
as for the ref that got chased kick the club out the league end of story. every time it happens kick the club out for the season you will soon see a change,
Yea the tweets still up there Jim,he told you that 5mins earlier. And did you really describe Jenas as a top pundit 😂White should team up with Agbonlahor and call their shoe dumb and dumber
Why is it so many people just can't understand how to use social media. It's bewildering.
So refs demand respect while simultaneously managing to get major and minor decisions categorically wrong in nearly every match this season? Am I the only one who thinks maybe players and fans would show more respect if they were actually good at their jobs? The refs this season have been dreadful.
100%
Newsflash even if a person makes mistakes you should still be respectful
Getting decisions wrong doesn’t mean it’s okay to abuse the ref, just like if you go to a restaurant and you don’t like the food, you don’t start abusing the staff’s. As for the kids thinking it’s funny the reffs being chased that issue is not just in sports, unfortunately we have major issues with respecting.
You are confusing respect with accountability.. Well if you make a mistake at work, don't you still want to be treated with respect by your work colleagues? If your children make mistakes you feel you are entitled to treat them with little or no respect through their whole childhood? It's just a game - it's not war
@@DirtyOatmilk Why respect someone that can't do their job? Would you respect your mechanic if he had your car for a day and then said "Yeah couldn't fix it, anyway bill is £500".
Jenas, like Aluko, Alex Scott, Karen Carney and countless others do nothing more than tick those woke corporate boxes.
Jermaine Jenas, fake? Never! LOL!
Simon so perfect 👍 who he throws the first stone
Great guest..very well put
Still convinced the reason England lost the Euro final was because they were baffled as to why Jermaine Jenas was on commentary.
Maybe VAR has removed any excuses that referees might have had. If a pundit sees a clear error by VAR are they supposed to support the referee even though they are clearly wrong and inexplicably wrong?
No one’s entitled to respect… be a good ref and earn respect
Is dishonesty DISHONESTY more serious than dishonesty?
No surprise simon the company yes man is always backing refs.
The refs are the most protected species out there. Jenas did wrong but it's so hurting on how rules change on a daily basis. What is a penalty in this game is not in the other game.
Dishonesty DISHONESTY... the worst kind of dishonesty
Outstandingly constructed Martin, love the pure value of fighting for what’s right!
Being accused of dishonesty is bad enough, but then to be accused of DISHONESTY is too much
He was right
Anyone who chases ir abuses a ref should be arrested and banned, that doesn't take away from the fact the premier league refereeing is absolutely shocking and that includes VAR
Referees are shite, end of, we should be able to call it out esp with the technology available, that's just as embarrassing as Jenas being a pundit. He's clueless
Bad refs deserve it
Maybe they should change some of the laws in the game then. Especially the handball law, that would actually be the best support for referees instead of having confusing a contradictory laws
Im sorry but you wouldnt call someone out for criticizing a politician, you wouldnt call someone out for critisizing a player. But when its a ref it out of order? Theres no smoke without fire ...
I can tell you that there will be many many young newly qualified referees who will give up after a handful of games. As a junior league committee member we are seeing a dreadful drop out rate with young referees who are being abused. Parents need to control themselves.
WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE POOR HECKIN REFEREENOS!

The number of pschos in this thread saying it's perfectly fine to abuse and attack football officials is a real indictment of the state of civility in this country.
