IKEA Small Spaces - Small ideas

- Small ideas are about finding and using hidden spaces and choosing furniture that does more than one thing. It's about being creative, a little rebellious and doing what you dream about no matter how much or how little space you have. And we think that is a pretty big idea.
I shared a room with two sisters until I was 23. I went to college locally and instead of spending my cash on the nasty-assed dorm shacked up with some stranger, I stayed at home and spent my money on other things. It wasn't bad at all. Our house was 900sq ft. and while it felt cramped sometimes with five people, it was manageable. I think being forced to share made me more patient, humble and thankful for what I have now.
such a wonderful story. how's the situation now?
I love how IKEA embraces minimalism as well! I think they're such an amazing company, and it's astonishing what they accomplish
"Does a living room really need a sofa? What if we tried something different?"
***Two sofas***
they would argue those are "beds" or "sofa beds".
*chaise lounges
Coming back after 5 years, still inspiring as usual. It’s gives me great insight as an architecture student.
I love the second design, but the 6 friends thing just made me claustrophobic.
I actually think Swedes are doing this quite frequently when they move to Norway just to earn more money than they would in Sweden. At least from what I've heard
April Jones sometimes you have no choise🤷🏻♀️
Yep, just reminded me of everything I hated about being a student and there were “only” 5 of us
Imagine having 8 kids - these ideas are genius
Cori Ryan you got a good point there
I don't understand why some posts are so negative about this video. Renting an apartment becomes more and more expensive and you might be forced to move to flats with less room. I think this is a great video to tell people that they still can make cosy place for themselves, even if they live on 50 or 60 sqm with 3 or 4 people
+voyerista who says that this is supposed to be for your every-day-life? It's just an idea, what you make out of it is your own thing. This could be interesting for people that run hostels or camping sites. Places where people don't stay too long
the answer to rent is simple.don't rent and instead buy since it's cheaper to buy a house then rent an apartment.
+Brianna Harter (star and fox) it really depend on where you live! buying a house is really expensive. then i'd rather pay 600$ pr month for 60 sqm apartment than buy a couse for half a million...
+Brianna Harter (star and fox) and I guess you are going to pay my deposit and fee's for me to buy a house? thanks
If someone wants to live with 3-4 people in 50 or 60 sqm go right ahead where you well sleeping, cooking, eating, studying etc. Go right ahead, but don't forget to come back and tell us how it went.
This video and the goal is to open one's mind to utilizing space. It is not meant in any other way. Do what one is able with what one has. Good video Ikea!
Well said
This video is genius on so many levels. The rock, powder, water metaphor on utilizing space. The amazing interior design ideas presented. The way they were put together into an entertaining video. The advertising power. It is full of win!
Love the room for 6 people but only as a hostel idea. I mean who would want to live like this permanently. As a hostel room however that would be perfect!!
Yeah, I've been in quite a few hostels that had a similar arrangement. The curtains drawn make the bed space very cozy!
I''ve never seen a hostel with curtains on beds, infact they straight up ban the use of bedsheets as makeshift curtains.. Not sure why, maybe its health and safety regulations or something? The only way I could see this working permanently is if there was stairs rather than ladders (with storage built into the stairs) between the bunks- More like lofts, not even connected to the bottom bunks, so you don't shake the person above/below you when you get into bed/have sex. And instead of curtains maybe sliding doors/windows, like three segments so you can slide them all to one side to open it up to air it out during the day, but have actual privacy for GETTING IT ON etc.. Also these looks like singles? They would have to be doubles if this was permanent, at least for the top bunk, it doesn't even increase the floor space used if its top bunk, if it's above head height.. And with the height of those ceilings I have no idea why the bunks are so low.
i would live there maybe with a max of three ppl, but that’s even pushing it
@@AceAngelTTV Well, based on my sad experience people tend to f*ck behind those makeshift curtains. In dorm rooms, with everyone around. Maybe that's why :D
Realistically, it'll be like college dorms but worse...
Having a small bedroom suddenly doesn't seem so bad anymore. I love the ideas in this video.
living with my 6 friends like that would be a dream come true. Affordable, functional, and you get to spend your time with the people you love. How is this not a normal thing?
bc sometimes u want a partner and some private time?
@@FireQueenFul those are opposites
Because maybe people want to have a sex life...?

This is my favourite IKEA ad video, even after all these years.
I think it's genuinely an amazing concept.
Magic sand.^0sand
The six hipsters/bunk beds scenario sounds like absolute hell on earth.
The second design is great !! How many people, specially young couples, can afford a flat bigger than this?? For a youn couple that's formidable !!!
I really liked the last idea with storage behind bed and mini walk way
the cuteness of that little white kitchen and the tiny bathroom. 😍 love the stop motion animated feel too. felt like I was watching something from a storybook.
The kitchen made me happy. With the amount of baking supplies I have and want to have, that would be perfect!
This brought tears to my eyes I have no idea why I guess its because Interior Designing is like passion so this is so inspirational. YOU CAN DO ANYTHING thank you so much
I once stayed in a small hotel room in Copenhagen, Denmark where everything was within reach. It was amazing to me.
2:10 the sleeping compartments in the room reminds me of the Japanese capsule hotels. Great use of small spaces!
Capsules look more futuristic, though.
I love that walk in closet idea in the last room they showed. I wanna do that. This video was amazing.
Love the ideas. We have to use so many different sources and information when asked to work on smaller properties. One area we find that's usually forgotten and under utilized is the space below the staircase. If you can open that area up and re support it with well calculated supports, you can open up a big wasted area and star using it for lots of things. Small office, storage etc.
All the creative ideas are amazingly innovative and yet so simple. What is required is the right mindset and have a willing attitude to do the impossible.
Makes me actually covet a smaller space...this is so well done and great ideas.
Well done IKEA! Thanks for making life work in just enough space. 👌
'a dream home doesn't have to be big, just smart.'
gosh, i love this tagline! :D
Totally genius. I love ikea stuff and their designs are so inspiring! Plus that's like marketing gold
Is this a trailer to Sims 4?
truu! 😂💔
Deudz Loves Poods that was exactly what I thought lol
I Love love Ikea!!! Afortable, easy to install, love all space ideas. If I have a house it has to be all ikea!!!
My house is full of ikea furniture ! It looks nice but when u think about it it is weirdr
OMG that last closet idea! Brilliant!
Love this - I am obsessed with small spaces
I LOVE the bunk bed one. Reminds me of camp.

This makes me pumped for the new store to open in Kansas City!! I'll be there all the time!!!
What can i say, ..."this video is very inspiring to everyone from IKEA"...
i love ikea showrooms they always look so damn cozy.
Love this spaces, love the design. Very nice Ikea❤️
Thank you Ikea! With this video, it inspired me to take a interior designing course!
Wow. I like those ideas. Especially the 6 people living together. That looked like the size of my dorm room, and it was crowded with just 2 people living there.
This gave me so much life. If someone can do this with their rooms or homes, I definitely know I can. My room is an okay size.
This is interesting and small spaces is really no constrain if you are innovative in your thinking. Small Spaces. Big Style.
I would quite happily live in a small space like the first one anytime. It's cosy and everything is within reach.
i LOOOOOOVE the students thing! such nice, all together, but you can still make you'r own space! looove
Great vid! Love the intro. I've used that illustration many times....Realistic room designs/layouts for the average small apartment or home too.
Love the closet idea at the end
Awesome work, awesome ideas. Need to start redecorate now......

I like the way she keeps building on that glass!!!
that 6-people house is ridiculous but this video had some brilliant ideas. My favourite was the room with the 2 chaise facing each other. I can really see myself living there
An eye Opening Video.. Great job Guyz...
I love "dream room doesn't need to be big, just smart!"
Brilliant!!! Thought provoking and inspiring.
I love this video! Well done Ikea.
This is such a cool video, especially with the 40 square metre house and the room that is a living room, play room and bedroom.
Love this so much! I may actually use it to try to decorate our apartments for lease :)
While I agree that space should not be wasted but be used to it's maximum, efficiency in this case does not equal filling every possible inch of a room just to prove that point. This video made me feel claustrophobic.
+Andrei If there IS an option, the choice is obvious (to me, anyway), space is an essential element for mental health. I GET that this video is suppose to address space limits with functional suggestions. I've never liked anyone enough to have them 3 feet away from me all of the time. Even with some cunning little room configurations.
These rooms are more of challenges and concepts to come up with innovative solutions than they are trying to actually have people buy it
I'm Inspired on this great ideas of IKEA....:>
I really like the last one!! Good idea

I really like the last one ;)
this got me so claustrophobic!
Super true. Spaces like that are better for persons who choose to live alone.
It is so smart
Love IKEA
I like the ideas for a studio or ultra small living area
I don't mind some of the Ikea furniture, but I don't like the Ikea idea of cramming everything you have (ever gathered) into a tiny home. I did this for some time and never got to keeping it tidy. And true to the Ikea idea I was constantly planning to buy more "storage units" - boxes, shelves, bigger boxes, smaller shelves, moveable shelves, shelves on wheels, a chair to stack the books that couldn't be jammed into those shelves...
And then I read about minimalism.
My space was already tiny by the standards of other people my age, and I am still decluttering, but within two years I moved about 1/3 of my appartment (books, clothes etc.) and it_is_still crammed! Thing is, I need a lot of time to decide what has to leave, so that I do not go and rebuy it six months later (this has happened...). Fact is also, I still have a lot of "dark corners" where I keep things I cannot even name off the cuff. And when I try to empty them, memories come back and I have a hard time letting them go.
The solution - for everyone who needs to move now and then or does not have a house of abundant space - really cannot be to buy another shelf, another box, another cupboard to "put it away"; the solution should be to know where everything you want to use is and how to get it - not by first emptying the front of the drawer of getting the ladder from the basement - and still having so much space that you don't feel shut in.
The Ikea rooms - the ones on display at the stores - are nice until you start to imagine a solid wall where you enter.
Then think:
A one-room-appartment with a coffeetable at the center of the room. If you want space - exercise, work on the floor, tidy up and put some things temporarily somewhere - there will be none. You'd have to heap the coffee table onto the sofa, do your thing, and remove the coffee table again. You'll start to hate that coffee table and spend more and more time outside your home until you get rid of that coffee table and either learn to do without or buy a foldable table - that probably someday will be in your way again...
First watch videos on minimalism, then declutter, then think about decluttering some (big, "obstacle"-) furniture, and only then start thinking about buying storage units, and think hard about how you will use them and if you'd rather have that space they take up.
So basically you're a hoarder
