- Stacey deals with one of the most talked about issues facing THE HOT ROD HOBBY…cost! He shows you that it is actually possible to build a steel-bodied, ’32 ROADSTER for around 20 Grand. You’ve got to get back to nature to do it! So, strap on your snake boots buddy! The Junkyard is callin’!

That Buick was savable.....
That '56 Buick would have still been a buildable car here in Minnesota...there really was no reason to crush that car, someone would have been able to save it...it's amazing what people with too much money will throw away because they think it's worthless, and the rest of us broke schmucks suffer for it when we get priced out of the hobby by snobs that crush anything that's not in perfect shape...
I cried when they crushed that, someone wouldve paid good money for that, and restored it or turn it into a rat rod anything better then crushing something they don't make anymore
Totally agree
I'm only 4 minutes in, please don't tell me they crush this Buick, that is a beauty!!!
Now I know. What is wrong with these people. #hacks
idk why he would think putting an old buick engine and trans into a 1932 ford what a weird and seemingly pointless engine swap. You could walk into any junkyard and find a fuel injected ford 4.6L v8 drivetrain in crown victoria's for cheap. Same with chevy LS engines all the used pickup trucks have them. Just wait in another 10-20 years and you will be able to find 5.0 coyote engines in the junkyard lol.
Quit crushing old cars, get a damn computer, put an add up for double the scrap price and keep it in circulation.
Right...
I've seen lots of guys who put ads up in forums and Facebook groups, offering to give away cars before they go to the crusher. The cars end up getting crushed - no takers.
Because when u get there to pick it up.... now they want gold for something that is a turd. Its hard to find an ad that is truely a give away. Most of those ads are scams. If they gave it for twice the scrap metal price and stayed true to the word....it would ve gone.
I feel that they say a full car is going to the scrapper just so they get more people interested.
Not enough builders etc. Everyone who CAN build those cars, are too full in inventory. :/
I can't believe that a car guy would dismember and crush a perfectly fixable 56 Buford that was so damn complete. That car, even if it needed a full floor pan was immensely fixable.
This is about ten years old, before people get too excited.
I'm really going to enjoy this series !
Wait, 20 grand? Well....I'm guessing that is pretty cheap for what they're doing. When I hear *cheap*, I think 5-8 grand!
Still an awesome channel and I'm excited for the series!
I thought the same thing ! But I guess that is cheep for a "32 ford . Please don't cruse the Buick !!!!!
Dude! The stainless and chrome trim was worth at least 5k here in the midwest. Should of covered my eyes.
I can't believe he didn't save the windows or the wings on that Buick, at the least.
Brilliant absolutely fantastic I want to build one of those beautiful 32 roadsters love it I’ve always thought they were the business Larry in London thanks mate
Good job, Great show Stacey, keep it going
Usual false advertising from car shows! Prices for many parts aren't even covered, like the column drop, seats, tires & wheels, etc. In the end Stacy has $19,500 project, by his math, that still needs $10,000 or so to finish it. You can't fully build a complete car for less than $30k, I know because I build cars and get sick and tired of all slight of hand from TV car shows. Just miscellaneous hardware (linkages, column drops, exhaust hangers, gaskets, random nuts and bolts, etc) in a build like this will be well over $1000 if you keep track of all the little nuts and bolts you end up buying.
One of his criteria was reliability... and he puts a junk yard engine in it without rebuilding it??? At a minimum, that carb needed gone through but really the entire engine needed it. Rebuild kit and machining is going to be a minimum of $1000. "Write it down." Even doing most of the work yourself.
You guys said it! Not to mention the price of rust has went up 1000% due to show like this and gas monkey barret Jackson etc..
Yes Sir ... Ol'David is More SALESMAN than Builder of ANYTHING
This dude is such a tool. Anyone who has done this for any amount of time ( me over 40 years ) knows his claims and math are pretty damned faulty. Now factor in that pre-war hotrod prices have taken a dump in the last 5 years and you have yourself a money pit.
You guys just dont know about Tennessee math
@@kylelaughinghouse1893 Nor is my name Jethro... :-)
Stacey David gears is the best show ever from day one it's been what 20 years I've been watching him he helped me get through a build on my Jeep Gladiator truck the hundreds little tidbits and secrets that he has shown the public is so cool thanks Stacy
Who's going to save that '64/'65 Falcon that was parked next to the Buick? It would make a mean A/FX tribute car. Grab the 390 out of the '68 Galaxie on the other side of the Buick for a motor. Stacey gave enough info anybody can find this place. If I didn't have three projects already I'd go look at it. I live about ten miles from there.
It's a real shame that buick and other cars were crushed!
Midwest/eastcoast that's normal rust. That gets fixed
It had been sitting in the yard for a long time and no one got any parts from it. I don't like to see them get crushed either, but I can't save 'em all by myself!
U guys saved an animal from being crushed, that’s so cool 👍
Pretty cool video, great tips and suggestions.
During this god awful pandemic with multiple states under ‘stay at home’ orders, (including mine)
it was a psychological kick in the stomach to see that beautiful Buick crushed........
I had a 1971 CCM Mustang Maurader still have it in my shed I restored it 20 years ago and most likely will need to be restored again
So you spot a 2 door Buick & get all excited, buy the Buick whole front end/motor for $300, tell us we can make $$ selling the bits online, then let them crush the rest?? Couldn't shell out another $100 for the whole lot? What kinda car yard crushes a car when they know they are getting free advertising on youtube about all the classics they have left? None of that segment made any sense!
Haha exactly!
That falcon next to it is the car I dream of. Can’t find any here in Los Angeles and there it is sitting in a junk yard. Damn
I rescued my classic and being enjoying it since 2011 for less than 7gs
Save em not crush em.
How much to save that seized rusted old Buick motor? I’ve pulled mid 90’s SBC where the cylinder and piston come out together.
The buick looked like it could have been saved...
Yeah it was solid. This was a molestation at its simplest form and why would a salvage yard car
1) have any fluids at all
2)Have pristine green rust and particulate free coolant
all you need is money and a place and tools
Nice work Stacy
I thought that Stacey David would be building a tribute to the famous Tom McMullen's black 1932 Ford Roadster.
That Classic Buick had way more style then that fake hotrod ever will have. Very painful tv...
The last show UA-cam that Motortrend hasn't held for ransom...
Had an acid flashback at about 17:30
Or if you live in Canada and cant afford all this, Get an 84-94 s10 or ranger and put a v8 with a stick in it.
I hear you fellow Canadian. 1949 ford on a s10. 305 HO automatic runs awesome.
Unfortunately $16,000 certified
My grandpa made a 32’ ford 40 years ago
You get thumbs down for publicly crushing Buick. Shame on you.
I can't believe they crushed that Buick and I am not even a GM guy.
I could of used that roof sheet metal from the 56 Buick. Now it's going to be something stupid.
Revell released a 1:25 scale model kit of this roadster, it was not very accurate.
Grew up watching gearz
The goat. Plus he's completely crazy.
The other issue is people pick cars up that there are aftermarket and restoration parts for. If this buick was a 55-57chevy or a 67-69 camaro it would have been sold. Very few people pick up cars that parts are hard to find for... say 59 oldsmobile 88 or 56 plymouth belevedere. The parts are more costly than the car if u can find them and its a frustration to keep those kind of cars on the road. If restoration parts were available for those cars they would be picked up more often. A great Example is the foward look mopars. Lots of people like them... but few buy them because its hard to find parts for.also times are changing. Mellinals dont have intrest in cars like gen x or baby boomers. Most people lease cars now and want nothing to do with mechanics..... they rather get the latest iphone. Very few are even into ricing their hondas out as opposed to 15 to 20 yrs ago. As baby boomers die.... i hate to say this hot rodding will become less common and eventually extinct. Only true die hards and gear heads will stay in the sport. Sad very sad.
Dont worry, you can count on my kids in the future to blow money on building cars and saving them rather than dope and technology!
The word budget or ‘on a budget’ do not mean ‘cheap’. #StopIt
At least it wasn't a small block Chevy or ls swap this time
Lol at shorthand for transmission being censored
Don't want to offend the freaks.
I die a little inside when someone puts a Brand X engine in a Ford body.
Old junkyard motors usually run fine......
Bc ppl who build there own cars have 32000 laying around.... I think ppl miss the point of old school hodrods
Bugger.... why crush the 2 door Buick?
That 56 Buick still had good chrome moldings and tail lights, you fucking idiot Stacey
I see srg rock has no engine, yall take it out and crush it to!? I thought I knew you!
What a douche for crushing that Buick!
reliable car with a dynaflow!
Real world cost:
$23,500 licensed. Minimum.
That's cheap considering a '32 Dearborn Deuce body costs 24.5k.
Give me a steering column with a crush zone, thanks. Getting skewered by one of those old spears is NOT pleasant. 😏
Disappointed
Thought this video would show how to build a hot rod.
Hell, we have all (assembled) a $2.00 model hot rod, nothing new here.
BTW, people who crush antiques have no appreciation of history.😢🤔
First thoughts when clicking this video... "probably a boomer" lol "write that down" he says... on what my yellow notepad I keep in my pocket at all times? Im just pulling your leg dont take any of this serious...
This guy is annoying.....
Write that down!
lot of money for bolt on. factory made parts . spend less money by build your own chassis, nothing wrong with wiring harness from donor, fuel tank from donor, steering wheel and box from donor, front disc brakes from donor, posi rear and engine trans from donor. many ways to accomplish same thing . just saying .☺
Thank you for the Purple Bicycle!
2 men are fighting for money though
Tears apart an all original car to build a hot road ? This is one of dumbest things I’ve ever seen!
Pathetic! I built my 32 on a budget, it came out at $ 42000 with flathead, T5, banjo rear end, all from salvage and putting it togheter myself. How much have you made for this advertizing? $100,000 ? here it goes, you forgot to mentionthat. I am impressed about your mechanical abilities though, you drilled hole in the 32 shell and installed the tank all by yourself on top of the frame with no rubber dampener while on the 32 it goes UNDER Einstein.
I would loved to watch all this video but its just that the camera person is waaaaaay to creative just too much movement, I am subject to motion sickness.
The 56 Buick steering column is unsafe. Many drivers died in collisions when that steering column was driven through their
face. The chrome replacement is no safer. 32 Fords were ok in 32 but unsafe now I mean really
Your clearly not a car guy
I lost interest when you ravaged the 56. I would have bought that car
It sat untouched in the junkyard for years. They were about to crush it, so I saved as much as I had room for. It was also over 15 years ago.
This was a sad episode
Stacey is an idiot. Right, up north that’s rebuildable
Who’s going to talk to him about his hair??
Probably some pole smoker named Steve Scoville.
I stopped watching at 5:50, at a minimum there were a lot of parts on it for someone's project....was a special as well only 3 ports on it....made me sick....
This guy is such a fuckin goof
Get the chrome, hood ornament looked awesome, the crusher WTF, someone needs two kicks in the gears. I would have paid dumbass wrecker for the old girl
You can't find this metal anymore. Stupid dam yanks , pay some banjo picking school kid with his 6 th grade education to remove these parts. Give your heads a shake!
It’s a very old show and its bullshit
TO ALL BOOMERS: PLEASE GIVE THIS GUY A LIKE. 80k views and 800 likes tells me a bunch of people are watching this, but don't understand the common courtesy to give a video a like...
Please please please, never ever show the cruel death of a car in a crusher again...I can't stand to watch it.
Just seen the Buick crushed. Im done watching. I won’t watch anymore. That should be illegal.
It sucks to see, but that car had been sitting in their junkyard for a really long time. We salvaged as much as we could from it.
How the fuck is this a "budget build"????
bullshit
FUCK YOU !!!....WHY YOU CRUSH THE BUICK ????......ASS HOLE.
This is the biggest load of bullshit...
Y'all garbage ppl crushed it!?!?! You basterds
Just buy someone else's project car lol.
Wow crushed a saveable Buick. Hardtop too. You guys are dicks.
Bullshit bullshit bullshit nail head and dynaflow 1000 lbs min with manifolds and cast iron intake
He's so hard to watch. He laughs like he's on drugs.
What a shit video...hes talking to ppl who have never worked on cars ffs...
And what happend to the end..went off about pushbikes.....
unwatchable. talk like a normal human. you have the skills just a poor perception of how people want to be informed. laugh talking is as fake as rubber dog shit.
oh btw , would you like me to do you a new logo. free .
I'm french and if you want to build the same samedi here. Everithing will cost you twice with delivery cost and customs fee 🥴🥴🥴🥲
