I remember when i worked for an East London council and we had to do a 2 day non discrimination notice course because 1 homeless family were placed in a house (a very nice house) in Southend on Sea. They had arrived from Bangladesh and gone straight to the homeless persons unit from Heathrow. This was at the time when local councils had taken over all the housing stock from the GLC in 1985 and it was very chaotic as the GLC stock was much larger than the local councils stock. The family accused Tower Hamlets of forgetting about them. The ombudsman ordered that all the council staff had to do the course especially the housing staff. Those of us on the course were all labelled as racist. Even though most of us hadnt worked for the council until 1987. Eventually it was found that the family had provided false documents to the British entry clearance officer in Dhaka stating that they had a house ready and waiting on a 3 year lease for them to move into. The estate agent who dealt with them was found to have issued hundreds of documents for a payment of £200 per family. He was done for fraud. You should have seen the look on the trainers face when we gave her the paperwork showing the true story. She couldnt wait to get away from us as soon as the course ended.

They had in 2008 32 companies advertising that they could sort out their benefits for them before they get to the uk once they get their visa. I told the various government departments here about it but was ignored now look at the benefits Bill.
I was not on the course myself, but a colleague reported that an Indian lady accused the trainer of an anti-racism course of being racist herself because her continual references to "black people" ignored her South Asian heritage. Apparently the trainer ran out of the training room in tears.
As an HR head of 40 years I found this madness too bizarre. I resisted for 5 years but with a function now 80% female and 20% male largely being gay - it was too much. I retired. HR had become a dumping ground for affirmative actions for decades. Now companies are paying the price. HR is now unrecognisable from what it was.

I’ve mentioned this before Leo, but in Glasgow city chambers they had a cafe, and as an employee I was allowed to use it, so anyway one day I was there on the notice board, there was a big sign asking ARE YOU BLACK? why you would need to ask baffles me, you either know or don’t know, so anyway it was information about a day course regarding your ( black ) rights in the council, recognising racism, etc, but those attending or attendees? Got a full day off work, lunch was provided as was full pay. So Glasgow has been guilty of racism for a long time.

I work at Whole Foods in the states. I had to apply multiple times over the last couple years and never got a response until I declined to answer the demographics questions, once they didn’t know I was a white person they hired me without even an interview.
I'm an HR Director and I spend most of my time fighting this nonsense, I totally reject DEI as it's divisive, regressive and damages businesses and morale. You won't believe the push back that we have to give a lot of the time at all levels, it's almost never ending. My former employer (a medium size multi-national) started a mentoring and development program for young new starters, which was a great idea, but was only made available to people who ticked any of the following boxes: female, person of colour, LBGTQI, disabled or a veteran. So the ONLY cohort SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED were able-bodied straight white males who had no time in the military! This was blatantly illegal yet they promoted this as a wonderful new initiative. Just one of many of their woke initiatives which resulted in me choosing to make them by EX-employer!

I was in a training session and asked a question to do with self identification around trans issues and I was also vehemently attacked. My collegues in the room were aghast at the 2 trainers who had reacted so.

They approach the line manager, stress them, ensure the line manager has crossed their Ts and dotted their Is, cover all bases. They then investigate and usually find in favour of the Line Manager. Totally! My former employer (a medium size multi-national) started a mentoring and development program for young new starters, which was a great idea, but was only made available to people who ticked any of the following boxes: female, person of colour, LBGTQI, disabled or a veteran. So the ONLY cohort SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED were able-bodied straight white males who had no time in the military! This was blatantly illegal yet they promoted this as a wonderful new initiative. Just one of many of their woke initiatives which resulted in me choosing to make them by EX-employer!

Several years ago working for a company called Independence Matters (I no longer work for them!) I was in a training session and asked a question to do with self identification around trans issues and I was also vehemently attacked. My collegues in the room were aghast at the 2 trainers who had reacted so.

Very few would like to join the Forces as they are averse to deference. Too much discipline and taking orders from superiors is not part of their DNA. "HR" is a nightmare. We used to have a 'Personnel Department' (manned, and sometimes womaned) by people who were just another section of the workforce. I remember when the "HUMAN RESOURCES" concept arrived in Britain from the US, the new HR Departments would employ more people and become more and more partisan. That is, siding with the Employer against the Employee in any dispute. And That's Before They Became Politicised! Now look at what we have... HR they are now called People! 😂 They are not for the ‘People’ they are are the company. Look at their open door policy. They encourage staff to bring problems to their door….once staff do. They approach the line manager, stress them, ensure the line manager has crossed their Ts and dotted their Is, cover all bases. They then investigate and usually find in favour of the Line Manager. Seen this happen on many occasions
