Angor Thom - Bayon Temple- An ancient city and a sculptural masterpiece in Combodia

In this video, we visit a temple city in Cambodia which is built depicting the Hindu mythological story of Samuthra Manthanam. The towering gopurams of the main temple in the center of the city have the faces of the king who built it. Just like the mythological story of Samudra Manthanam yielded the Amritham he is believed that this city would make him immortal. But, did he achieve the purpose? The Bayon Temple of Cambodia is a temple which is indeed a masterpiece with beautiful sculptures of mythological figures and day to day life of people of that era. It stands at the center of Angkor Thom, the new capital that King Jayavarman built. Having embraced Buddhism, he depicts himself as Avalokiteswara, the BodhiSattva through sculptures on the towers of the temple.
