    Hi Henrik!
    I rode a cr250 for 10 years. Undeniably a light bike, only 213 pounds. Lighter than most of the new KTM models. I just replaced that Cr with a CRF450X. I honestly can’t tell that it is any heavier than the 250. I don’t know why people are so obsessed over a few pounds. The reason I don’t have a KTM is because they have a longevity issue. You know when a bike feels heaviest? When it no longer runs...think about that.

    Awesome review! I definitely want to see more on the 2019 crf450x. As far as the wheight goes I don't think it's that bad but I coming from a 500lb Sportster converted for dirt.

    Yes, it is 30lbs heavier but its frame or swingarm etc, does not break like ktm. You can jump with this bike without fear.

    I'll choose the Honda over the KTM any day because I don't like to fix something broken after every ride and deal with obsolete parts after a few years.

    Wow that's quiet! Also I find it interesting that the bike is heavier than the previous model 450X despite not having a kick-start. It seems to me that Honda designed this bike to be more of a true trail bike vs the old 450x which was a desert racer, while the new 450rx has taken up that mantle.

    The CRF450X is an improvement over the last generation carb, 5 speed model. Honda released the CRF450RX to compete with the 450EXC. The CRF450X with its twinspar aluminum frame and pro-link rear suspension is a lot more bike than the single backbone steel and non linkage rear suspension. While Honda touts a heavier crankshaft/flywheel and even a relatively low 12:1 compression 3-ring piston is obviously going to have much longer service intervals with less vibration, much opposite to the special website mention of a super lightened crankshaft flywheel(wrong place to save weight) of the EXC that doesn't have pro-link rear suspension like the Husky FE450 and SX450.(wrong place to save weight again). Their radiator fan also happens to be an optional powerpart, another wrong place to save weight. Barkbusters are cheap. And they always try to mislead by declaring no gas weight.

    Honda also came out with the CRF250F for US import, which replaces the CRF230F. Unfortunately it has the same primitive suspension and is even heavier. 265+ lbs. But you do get EFI and front and rear disc brakes. It’s probably near indestructible though.

    I just got a 450L, I see no full system exhaust for it yet, but in my research I found people are using exhaust systems for the X model on the L model. Is that okay to use or is it going to do some damage in the long run because is not for that particular engine.

    • @jonathondavis170
      @jonathondavis170 3 роки тому

      Your local Honda dealer should have a good answer, check at the parts center since that's what their job entails. I imagine it would be fine since the R & L are not so dissimilar when compared.

  • @jonathanhamilton7607
    @jonathanhamilton7607 5 років тому

    The XCF isn’t a good comparison. It doesn’t have the lights or computer display on it. The EXC450 would be the best comparison for weight. I’m sure it’s still lighter but probably not by much.

      Daniel C do yourself a favor and get a Yamaha. WR will probably be my next bike. I’ve ridden the 450f and it feels so small and light. What does it for me is the tuning ability (mapping) stock suspension, handling and it really does feel (450f I rode) very very light. I currently ride Ktm 17 250xc and 12 500xcw. Here’s a great review from an Aussie legend

    Is it fair to say the main difference between the L and this is the street legal equipment? As much as I would like the 300 tpi I am really looking hard at big red. I get the impressionthe Honda's are just as capable but not as high strung as the Orange or white bikes. On the other hand that 2 stroke Is much easier and cheaper to maintain. Is that a fair way of thinking? Thanks for the reviews. My old Harley is about to get a new stable mate and the old jeep a break from desert duty.

    • @jarelnomeh2345
      @jarelnomeh2345 5 років тому +1

      4 stroke KTMs are great. EXC-F will get you less weight while being street legal. And they are detuned compared to the MX counterparts (SX line). Either 350 or 450 is a good choice. Most people see no valvetrain or piston issues well past 200hrs.

    The green sticker is selling me on this bike. It’s that or a YZ450FX, I really miss the 450. I don’t care about weight cause when I had an 09 450X, the weight didn’t matter cause the power made up for it. I’ve heard that despite the weight on paper, these bikes feel light

    Why do EFI bikes still need a manual fuel enrichener? My street bikes never needed to be "choked" to start up.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому +2

      It's just the set up they used on this bike. This bike uses a pretty basic throttle body system that runs off a programmed map so it's not taking inputs from O2 sensors or coolant temp, like cars and most street bikes that are adjusting their air/fuel all the time based off those other sensors. The "choke" is just a way to essentially trick the system to have a more rich mixture on cold start ups. Hope that clears it up a little bit!

  • @AverageVetRider
    @AverageVetRider 5 років тому +3

    Why did you compare the weight of the CRF450X to the KTM 450 XC-F?? XC-F counterpart in Honda’s line is the CRF450RX, and the CRF450X is the counterpart to the KTM EXC-F 450. That would be a more fair comparison based on weight given the EXC-F has a headlight like the CRF450X, where the XC-F does not.

    • @jarelnomeh2345
      @jarelnomeh2345 5 років тому

      EXC-F is street legal. This isn't. And the EXC-F is still lighter with all of the DOT gear. XC-W would be the off-road bike with headlamp.
