I like how in Black Ops’s universe the Russians went from using the Makarov to the fucking 1911 then back to the Makarov. Also, they didn’t adopt the AK-74 until the 90s (but started using the AKS-74U ten years before it existed).
It pissed me off the Makarov was never in Cold War. If you look closely in some character skins, you can actually see Makarov and its holsters on the characters (Both NATO and Warsaw Pact operators). Main Stitch skin has it on his chest vest and there’s even a Park one where she has dual weld Maks on here chest holsters..
Im pretty sure they existed. The AKS-74M was used beginning in the 90s which was a more modern version of the AKS-74. But funny enough i do realize that the AKS-74U used the 90s AKS-74M modern version of it. Its funny too because bo1 had exactly the older version of it but it wasnt around till like the mid 70s...
BO2's great and all, but the extremely jarring lack of sound design variety compared to games that literally came before it just baffles me to no end. They succeeded in everything else, yet dropped the ball with the sound design, being lazy AF and sharing a small selection of sounds across most weapons in each respective weapon class.
Counter argument, you could actually say that the sound design was really good because back in the day nobody really noticed it, the sounds used may be the same for nearly every weapon, but they are really satisfying and it saved the devs a lot of time, given that y'know cod devs have a very short amount of time and a set budget limit to make said game, gotta remember that the new cods have thousands of more developers and a LOT more money than before. Honestly can't hate on how well it got away with it.
The only reused sounds were for the bo1 weapons brought back in the campaign. All the other original bo2 weapons in fact have unique sounds and can be easily idintified
It never bothered me outside of the 1911 & 57 that are atrocious but the aesthetic design of the game in general is a step back, it’s just uglier than black ops 1 even though backported map will look identical. The textures got so simplistic and drained of contrast & shades to the point it’s cartoony sometimes while 1 has a nice shine to everything, did they do.
Treyarch got real lazy with the weapon sounds in Black Ops II. When they brought back World at War weapons in the Black Ops 1 Campaign, they went through the effort of using new sounds for most of the weapons, despite the fact that only the MP40 and STG44 would return in Zombies. With Black Ops 1 weapons returning to Black Ops 2, all they did was repurpose sounds created for 2025 era weapons to be used for the 1980s era weapons.
For everyone wondering why the BO2 weapon sounds were "so bad." It's not because Treyarch were lazy back then or didn't have enough resources for better sound display. Only problem is that the "cold war" era weapons in Black Ops 2 were only meant for a one and done use. So it was only intended in certain missions in the campaign to not appear again in present time missions along with Multiplayer.
That is literally a non explanation lmaoooo. They are not meant for one and done you can choose your weapon and it can be the same every mission bro have you even PLAYED the game??
A great way to get revamp bo2's sound engine would be to, instead of introducing new sounds, splice up the old ones for more customizability. Many guns had part of their ringoff sounds in the firing sound, so you could hear the ringoff even indoors. If you spliced out those ringoffs and made custom ringoffs using those splices for that weapon, you could reuse the firing sound and tie other ringoffs to it to change the sound. The ballista is an offender here because as you could hear in the dragonuv's firing sound, its the ballista, and you can still hear where the bolt action would go. If they isolated that shot more and instead used different ringoff sounds, you could have that punchy ballista sound without having it BE the ballista. They did this in Bo1 so that whenever they reused sounds, they could do it properly! You can also do this with reload sounds. Reload sounds in bo2 had two parts usually that were discernable but combined in one file, so there wasnt much of a way to customize them. If you split them up, now you have multiple different clicks and futz sounds you can use on rifles, smgs, lmgs etc!
In BO6? For me it's pretty much 2 free kills up until a person with flak jacket shows up and then I have to actually use the gun that it's attached to.
Yes, CoD has really ramped up their game in the sound and animation department. They're arguably the best in those areas at the moment besides Tarkov and Insurgency, but they're still losing their fanbase.
