  • Threw some corn to see what would show up on our perimeter road. The next day I got a beautiful S.F.S. Ten days later she returned.
Florida Fish & Wildlife lists the Sherman's as "a species of special concern" due to habitat loss. I see them surprising often around our property but hey, that's why we named it "The Preserve!"

That's so awesome we saw a fox squirrel the other day and thought they were got due to Micheal. But I'm glad to see them coming back.

I'm afraid people don't know what they are and that they're protected. A hunter may just see them as a big squirrel but yeah, great seeing a comeback!

I saw one for the first time today, outside of Atlanta, GA. It walked by fairly calmly, as i was working in my garden. It was so big and the tail was so long, i didn't believe it was a squirrel at first. I had to Google "Black and gray animal that looks like a big squirrel". Eventually, it brought me here.
Beautiful animal. As cool as it was to watch it walk by so slowly, i wish it was more wary of humans.

Cool story and congrats on seeing your first!
Hopefully they will now make more frequent appearances.

They are severely threatened in Florida due to urban sprawl and loss of habitat I was lucky to see one recently!

Good for you, they are beautiful critters and a treat to see. Luckily we have a strong population here and they only have to worry about their natural predators.
