Megan, sister of faithful whisper, I bet the Lord hears your hope, and will answer it with glory and beauty some day. There really *are* prince charmings. It’s not a myth. 💛🙏🏼
Growing up in sports like boxing, motocross racing and others I learned that a man should be strong, fast and overcome fear. Now, being married and having a brand new baby boy, I can tell you that the aspects of being a man discussed in this video are the most important!
We need borh aspects, applied each at the right time and circumstance. Generally speaking, outside the home the strong aspect is more important and at home the providing and sacrificial aspect.
Perhaps, instead, he wanted to her to be able to maintain her self worth and self esteem by allowing her to continue to be a productive member of the family, rather than cause her to feel helpless by doing the work for her. Never underestimate the value of work in helping a soul feel valued.
I may be a Church of England christian but our belief in our Heavenly Father Jesus Christ is something all Christians no matter their denomination will unite us all God bless.
I am surprised by judgmental comments on this video about a husband's sacrifice for his wife. I cannot imagine any woman I know being content with not being able to contribute to their family. We should not morally indict others who had different understanding of parental roles during their life back then, than you do in your life today. The message of this video is beautiful for any woman, and that is a man has a role to give of themselves to be a loving husband.
Thank you for your comment. This message has brought me to tears multiple times and has inspired me in ways I cannot even describe. I feel sorry for those who miss the point of this message because they got caught up on a meaningless detail.
He just listened to her crying and didn't offer to help her or comfort her. If she wanted to do it then that's fine but he didn't try to help. My husband does all our laundry. Why would a husband not offer to help.
@@kaydiangel2445 Probably because, by hiding herself to cry, she was making it clear she wanted to cry alone and wanted to do the laundry to retain her own sense of self worth.
When I watch this I always think "There is woman" aswell. Im always so impressed, by her. One that she still wanted to do the iron and everything, but even more so that she didnt complain to him about the pain. I think most people would cry and complain to their spouse about the pain. I love that she didnt want him to know it hurt ironing and although im sure he was hungry going with out lunches, he obviously didnt complain to her about it and try to make her feel bad about the medical bills. Thats true love and comitment in a marriage on both sides.
+Zack Deering I wonder if it was a generation thing. No point in making your spouse worry. Says A lot about how they respond to responsibility. Imagine my surprise of watching a video and seeing your picture in the comments. :)
Nothing wrong with seeing that side too since the role and value of a woman is certainly under attack these days, but I think his point in highlighting the “man” is the desire to debunk the worldly notion of what being a man is. Rarely is that definition challenged, and so most just assume that it’s correct to measure the manliness of a man by his emotional and physical strength, his verbal and comedic chops, and his mental and spiritual power. Men in the church view those all as well to be the definition of a man, and they then set aside fatherly things as the definition of a father or husband, but this lesson here reminds us that to be a man is to be a selfless and loving father and husband, and that all other attributes are ancillary.
Oorah! That is the manner of man we all should strive to be, even like Jesus Christ. Hopefully I can get there someday sooner rather than later. I'm trying. I guess that's what being a man means, choose your course and stay true to it despite the setbacks, trials, and variables. It is doable!
Christ truly was THE exemplary man. I think Elder Christofferson and the other Apostles are great examples of how over time we can become more and more like Christ.
I'm a former Mormon, and although I no longer believe in the church, priesthood etc.., I still appreciate values like these. remember that how a couple/partnership decides to divide up their gender roles is up to them, and try not to pass judgement if they choose to live their lives differently then yours.
If only the whole world could be this kind and giving. But if you look, you can find many kind people. They may not be Mormon, but they are as kind and thought full as anyone could be. I know, because I found a few of them myself.
And those that gave this video a thumbs down... what don't you agree with? Elder Christofferson, you nailed it 100%. We all need to stand up and be men like Jesus Christ. Lets all never dishonor or priesthood or our sacred covenants.
I am so grateful for stories like this from our apostles. It is inspiring to me, and gives me hope and an example to be like his father someday; a gentle provider and loyal protector.
Such a good message! Many today don't understand what a true man is! He is certainly not one who takes advantage of women or wonders if he is getting his share... he is one who respects all people and walks uprightly before God. Think if what a wonderful world it would be if most men were like the father in this video!
As i look to propose I am looking for counsel from the prophets and the Lord. This was perhaps some of the best counsel. Let us Be Men. Let each and every one of us sacrifice, to love all of our eternal companions so they know that we love them.
"He lives content in the approval of his Heavenly Father." Powerful stuff and an indispensible teaching in this world of money, power, and constant pleasure seeking.
Love is the sacrifice of the SELF. To carry burden and hardships with joy and happiness. Not with self pity and resentment. To ignore ones own discomforts in order to bring comfort to others.
Many people are saying that the Elder Christofferson, his brothers and their dad is at fault here for not ironing their own clothes. Look at it like this. Despite the fact the mother was a victim of cancer, she probably didn't want to appear as a burden. Elder Christofferson's father was a doctor who was now having to pay huge medical bills. Who even knows if he had alot of time to be home? I know some doctors that basically work for over twelve hours, go home, sleep, and then head back. And then also we have no idea how old the boys were. She was probably a housewife watching over Elementary school aged boys all the time. The mother probably was also the type of person that would have been unhappy if someone tried to stop her. My mother is the same way. Whenever I go home from college, she insists on doing things for me that I am more than capable of doing on my own. Sometimes we just gotta grin and bare it when people we care about help us. Even if it is inconvenient for them. Isn't that one of the greatest points of the Atonement?
Man, oh, man. I havn't cried like that in ages. This message really touches the Spirit. Teaches a great lesson in gratitude and faith. Thank u so much for contributing to me and my investigation into LDS as my path in life.
This made me cry and think of my wonderful, kind, loving boyfriend and how one day I want to go to church with him and however many kids we decide to have and feel complete ♥ =)
I think this is a great story. He doesn't say it directly, but it sounds like his mother had breast cancer and a radical mastectomy. I can imagine without reconstructive surgery at that time, and unknown to him, his mother had deep feelings of inadequacy. On top of that she wasn't even particularly useful. Small children who weren't capable of ironing and I'm sure long hours of work for him, the guy went without lunch for a year to show her how much he cared and wanted her to be part of their lives. That is being a man. Some guys today would walk away from both her and the kids. Real men would not.
Wow can't we all lean something from this? It made me tear up! To those 54 people that pressed dislike, how can you do that? This is charity to it's fullest!
Great video. I think that this is what being a man really is. Being giving to our families is what men should be. And being content in our purpose as husbands and fathers.
What a profound message. I have so much to improve upon. He's right you know. A man does everything he must to care for his family at all times. Sometimes we forget this. I know I value my relaxation time a bit too much. Making the family sacrifice because I don't want to work harder. I love my family. I need to work harder for them.
we got to remember that life is a time of learning and time of prove ourselfs to our father in heaven. as long as we do our best in keeping the commandments and do all we can do. he will bless us and help us to overcome lifes trials. we all need to follow the greatest example who is our savior and redeemer JESUS CHRIST. and we will be crown with eternal life and be in the precene of our father in heaven once more to go out no more.
@BlackHurricane714 Sometimes the real gift isn't taking away the work from the person you love, but instead enabling them so they are strong enough to do it. I think that's often the way God helps us. :)
I remember my mother spending hours at the ironing board. This was before permanent press fabrics. It was tricky work and very dangerous for young children to do. My Dad was a farmer and had long exhausting hours in the fields. Different time and different circumstances. . . . just sayin. :-)
I never wish to detract from the inspiration of powerful women. I do not wish to consign their separate roles to being seen as something lesser to that of men. But in the same way, I do not wish to diminish the inspiration of righteous men, to whom God has charged with certain sacred responsibilities. It is given to men the power to inflict force. Where women are given to growth and encouragement, men are given a hammer, capable of destruction or construction. The man who learns how to eagerly seek out opportunities to build, and resorts to the need to destroy with reservation, is a man who thinks, and draws closer to God.
Just one thought and I ask that you think about it deeply. Why did you feel the need to first acknowledge the power of women before mentioning something positive about men? I very rarely hear a woman in church say a single positive thing about men. I can literally think of maybe ten times and I have children in their mid 20’s.
I second the mentioned comment, I pray I can to the same standards. This individual is truly priceless. Thank you for sharing your inspirational story.
It's like a self confidence thing. My grandma has been blind now for maybe six years. When she first went blind, she still tried to iron her families clothes and would not let anyone else do it. I don't know why... guess that's how girls work :)
What a beautiful story! :) Made me feel the spirit SO strong :) I thought at first his father was thinking that she'd be happier if she could serve (by ironing shirts) & then I found out that the mother was making a painful sacrifice to iron even after such pain. Then we find out the father was sacrificing his lunches it shows what good relationships should be about too, sacrifice & teamwork, overall love. Reminded me of the movie 17 Miracles where the man gave up his food for his fiance.
CASFRM> Neglect to be such a man, and you will really cry. I have recently lost my family, because I did act as a selfcentered boy, instead of the man I dreamed of becomming... Use this as an incentive to act and work now, - before night falls and you can work no more. :-(
I hope someone loves me like that someday.
