    The Rep Deep Knurl Power Bar EX is the latest barbell from Rep Fitness. Rep has been known for creating (for the most part) budget-friendly gym equipment for the home gym owner. However, as of late, they’ve started to offer higher-end equipment and in all honesty, the best-quality imported equipment we’ve ever reviewed.
    The Rep Power Bar EX has all of the features of a top-shelf barbell focused towards powerlifters which we’ll detail further later in the review, however, it’s most unique characteristic is it’s end-cap to end-cap stainless steel finish. You can keep reading to figure out why this matters, but this is one of the only fully stainless barbells on the market and without a doubt the only fully stainless steel barbell under $500 (likely under $1,000.) At $379 not including shipping, it’s quite impressive that a bar as good as this can be so low, however, this must be countered with the understanding that this bar is not made in the USA. Does that reflect on the quality? Not in our opinion.

      Ohio Power Bar. At the end of the day it's still an import bar at a US made price. Plus I like the grip on the OHP. It's my go to bar. I do like my Ohio Bar for deadlifting. A little bit of flex is a nice thing. But its not as extreme as a deadlifting bar. And if you watch the Boneyard you can get a deal.

    Always happy to impress you Coop! This is a great barbell - but why did we make it? Our fully stainless steel power bar matches well with our AB-5200 or FB-5000 benches and PR-5000 v2 or PR-4000 power racks. As a complete package, the innovation, customer service, and value is unbeatable by several hundred dollars when comparing us to competitors. We always have the the garage gym guy in mind when rolling out our gear.

      I would have to say that this is unfair for REP to say this is only a $20.00 difference. If the Ohio power bar had the sleeves as stainless as well then the price Difference would be much more than $20.00. I would choose the REP if they sold in Canada but they don't so my choice is limited to the Ohio Power bar. Not a bad thing but I wish more competition on these products came up my way

    I don't think MSRP tells the whole story. After shipping/taxes, the Rep bar is about $15 more expensive for me. That being said, for the quality of the knurl and the stainless sleeves, it's def worth the price difference. In the end if someone were buying other equipment as well (racks/weights/etc), I'd prob suggest going with whatever brand they were already purchasing from to cut down on overall costs. However if you're talking bar to bar, it's really a toss up, which to me is a HUGE win for Rep! I think I just spoiled my own video that I have to make on this one lol.

      Thanks Brandon! The bar we wanted to offer was a fully stainless steel power bar. We could have gone cheap on the sleeves with chrome or zinc... but we felt like it would devalue the barbell (even though it would reduce the cost) for someone who truly wants a stainless steel power bar.

    • @NickSiekierski
      @NickSiekierski 3 роки тому +4

      The problem is that it's not honest competition, the Chinese manipulate their currency and intentionally dump prices to damage US manufacturers. If you want US workers, our fellow citizens, to have a decent standard of living, it's going to cost more than the Chinese stuff that subsidizes some other guys standard of living. Nothing against someone trying to support their family, but Beijing is looking out for #1 at all times, they don't just want to beat us on a level playing field, they want to bring the US to its knees and they're pulling every trick in the book to do it. We shouldn't be doing business with them, they consider us enemies. I'm trying to avoid Amazon now and will be buying US-made gym equipment whenever possible.

Nickel is SUPER HARD and even though eventually it will wear away, by the time it does, one will have owned this bar a very, very considerable amount of time. Nickel can only be stripped off steel with nitric acid so it will take sweat a very time before it will take that coating off. I don't want to be bias against plated barbells because metal finishing is a beautiful and wonderful thing. One must realize though, that it won't last forever. Thanks Coop!

    Love your reviews, but you should understand that tensile strength does not affect stiffness. For bars like these, it’s modulus of elasticity and diameter that matter for bar stiffness. The modulus for all these steel bar are effectively the same so it’s all about diameter for stiffness. The tensile strength tells you how much stress the material can take before being permanently deformed. That’s obviously important for heavy lifters, but it doesn’t affect whip.

    • @GarageGymReviews

      It's hard to say. Both have a lifetime warranty, but who's going to be around to service that lifetime warranty? I'd say Rogue is more likely. Hopefully both do. However, I really like the stainless sleeves. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Rep right now. However, I'm going to wait a bit so the shininess of the new object wears off and I can provide a true recommendation.

      If you can live with no center nurling I like my Rogue Ohio Bar. I use it for deadlifting. But my Ohio Power Bar is my go to bar. Or look at the B&R bars. Center nurling and less aggressive than something like the Ohio Power Bar. Grippy but not over the top like the Ohio Power Bar or the Westside Power Bar. Watch their Boneyard. Their 28.5 mm bars are what you want to watch for. 29 mm would be their power bars. 28 mm would be their Oly bars. Might be able to score a 25mm Bella bar for the lady friend and a power bar for you. Depending on what your budget is. My 20 kg Ohio Power Bar was a Boneyard buy for $250. Black zinc/bright zinc. Saving for a training bar since I can't afford a high end Oly bar with bearings. An Elite FTS SS Yoke is also on the list. As well as an Elite FTS multigrip bar.

    I'm no Rogue fanboy, but there is no denying a USA made bar is a better built bar compared to a imported bar made overseas. Just because a bar is "stainless steel" does not mean its a quality built bare. The steel in china is different from US steel. Put both of these barbells in a commercial heavy use gym environment for a year or two, then evaluate them. I'm sure you will have a clear winner.

I do prefer SS, as all my other bars are SS and easy to care for in the humidity. Still like to hold the raw steel. And dislike coatings, too slick.
