It's 11:30 pm in NYC but I went to my garage had to try it . Put a zip tie to hold the lever down and it came on after 3 pulls . Thanks a million didn't want to make too much noise so I cut it off . Took out the plug and air filter to air out overnight. Will see how it runs tommorow. Thanks a million !!!!
Thanks for the advice! Was struggling all morning getting my MS170 started to clear a downed tree in my driveway. Replaced the air filter, gas, and spark plug to no avail. The technique in this video got me up and running in minutes. Thanks!
G'day. Absolutely brilliant. I drove 3 hrs with a hired Stihl chainsaw out from Sydney Australia 1 hr in to cutting up a big eucalyptus tree, I flooded the chainsaw. Your you tube clip worked perfectly!! You are a legend. 💪
Worked perfectly on my Stihl MS250! Thank you! And I saw on another comment and thought I would reiterate - thank you for being so concise and not making at 13 min video with 10 min of nonsense. Subscribing now!
Started on the FIRST PULL! Amazing. Cleaned the parts (plug, top of the piston, let the air filter air out a bit). Thanks for the education. My dad and I used this method on Father's Day and I think he may have learned something too.
Thank you for this. Ive literally started saws 10000+ and i bought a new MS271 and fought to start it for several hours. It constantly flooded. Couldnt get to burp once. I tried drying out the cylinder and plug, like 10 times. I followed this technique exactly. I was skeptical it would burp on idle. But it burped first pull after doing this. It blew out some smoke for a few and is running good now.
Saw arrived yesterday ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and today I cut about 3/4 cord of wood with it. Make sure you get an extension chord that is at least 12 gauge wire, minimum. This is my first electric in about 10 years, and things sure have improved. The self-sharpener works great, and it just kept cutting through some pretty decent logs. Wear your eye protection, and ear protection. Excellent saw.
Great video mate it worked on my MS170 too a few weeks ago when I happened to flood it for the first time. However ever since it doesnt start like it used to before flooding incident and I end up with a flooded stihl everytime I have used it since.....???? Any reason why this is happening?
Worked like a charm ! And thanks for being so concise. Really appreciated that you don't need to listen to yourself talk for 3 minutes before getting down to business.
Thank you for this! Same thing happened to my MS-271. Thankfully, I didn't have to push the switch down to the choke position to remove the cover, and one round of chain pulls did the trick. But everything else was just like you explained, down to the white smoke at the end. I was back up and running within minutes.
Thanks for the advice. I got a new MS271, it started fine. I took a break and went to lunch and I must have flooded it when I tried to restart it. Any how your trick work! Awesome thanks.
Thanks for the video I was able to get my chainsaw running, I had already pulled the spark plug but didn't know to give it a bunch of pulls I was getting frustrated ha!
If its flooded it probably means it was just recently used and probably has to be on idle/warm start up again instead of cold start/chocke like you would do normally if it was started for the 1st time
What about the smaller Stihl models like the 14" inch, any ideas/advice for a similar flooding problem? I think the filter is different, haven't got that far yet. - Thanks
Dumb? Can you start from idle all the time. I can get no satisfaction when doing it the factory way, full choke, partial choke then idle. Thought? Thanks
Just put the chainsaw down and crank it at full throttle with the switch in the run position. Btw, you need to put in a new plug if you took out the old one.
The MS-170 is the worse chainsaw I have ever owned. The carb died with a stuck diaphragm on it already and it had to be replaced under warranty and it's less than a year old. The Stihl choke setup sucks. I'm going with an Echo or Dolmar as they actually have primer bulbs and run. Stihl can have their overpriced crap chainsaws for good.
Lifesaver! I had flooded my brand new chainsaw and with this video I saved myself a visit to the hardware shop.
Quick, simple, to the point. Thank you. Too many videos are fluffed out to 8 or 10 minutes and are full of unnecessary comments
You are right

Short, clear and to the point. Excellent synopsis.
Whohhhh, slow down there young feller. Is that how you treat a lady?
Worked!! With first try. Plus i cleaned spark plug with metal brush. 🎉

Thanks this saved me a trip to the hardware store
Excellent advice, every other video just mentions the “burp start” procedure. Nobody ever talks about the spark plug.
This video was really helpful when I had no idea what to do

It is a great video. Short and straight to the point.

Most useful information for a ms170 owner. Just an extra pull or missing the timing on the switch on the choke and the damn thing floods.
I've been scratching my head for a week on this. Changed spark plug and filter, fuel too. Nothing. This video worked perfectly Farm boss 271
Great to hear!
Followed your instructions worked perfectly...glad I found you and didn’t waste $$$ taking to the shop...THANKS
Worked like a charm! Thank you for this straightforward and clear tutorial. Well done!
This was the trick that worked for me. Saved me from going back to the dealer.

How do you do this on the 172, since its switch is spring-loaded and doesn't lock in the off position?
Thank you, your advice turned frowns into smiles.
Thanks for the tip it saved my 170 from going to the rubbish dump.
Worked like a charm ! And thanks for being so concise. Really appreciated that you don't need to listen to yourself talk for 3 minutes before getting down to business.
I have the same chain saw will try it today. Thx for the video brother
Exactly what I needed! I was really struggling to get my MS 290 started and this worked on the first try!
Much appreciated. Saved me from a 40 minute drive and a sore ego

Thanks for the video I was able to get my chainsaw running, I had already pulled the spark plug but didn't know to give it a bunch of pulls I was getting frustrated ha!
clearing pulls with the throttle wide open gives max airflow, hey?
How can I start my saw left handed. I have right shoulder problems.
You only need one hand to pull it, the other holds the saw on the ground. So just switch hands.
Thanks. Had to follow the procedure twice but it worked. The saw had not run for a while.
So I gotta start on the idle position instead of the choke ?
If its flooded it probably means it was just recently used and probably has to be on idle/warm start up again instead of cold start/chocke like you would do normally if it was started for the 1st time

Since I do not choke it after I run it, what is causing my stilh 021 to flood after a 15 min break and try a no choke start.?
Thank you for posting this video. It really worked! I have a older saw and it floods occasionally, great technique.
Yea I did this and it worked !! Very good! And yes the key is putting it on the “I “ position !! The choke messes it up
Works on Stihl concrete saws too. Thanks!
Brand new 2023 271 farm boss. Flooded first two days I had it. Found this video day 3 worked like a CHARM.
Man thank you so much!! I almost had a heart attack dealing with mine. This video was fast and simple.

This worked perfectly for my two Stihls within 5 minutes.
Dumb? Can you start from idle all the time. I can get no satisfaction when doing it the factory way, full choke, partial choke then idle. Thought? Thanks

Man, anyone noticed on hot days these ms Saws get flooded or something from the gas expansion?
Great video! Thank you so much! God bless you sir
Worked perfect!! Excellent!!
Just put the chainsaw down and crank it at full throttle with the switch in the run position.
Btw, you need to put in a new plug if you took out the old one.
Didn’t work for me and my Stihl is new

Didnt work. Tried it 5 x. Got any ideas
Maybe your saw is broken. It worked with me.
Don't use the choke, give it full throttle by hand and try again
That was great!!! Thanks so much.
