The Church @ 1:26 is being worked on by the Mexican community. It's going slow but it is persistent.

Yes, it seeemd to be under contruction/repair when I filmed this last summer. At least something is being saved from the wrecking ball or mother nature!! We need more of that.

I graduated from Harrison in 1978. That building was well maintained and the kids loved that neighborhood school and teachers (Mrs. Edmonds, Ms. Okinowki (sp?) and Mrs. Ford). Thank you for showing.

My family was in the stone masonry business in St. St. Louis from 1870 to about 1960.
I'm kinda glad my grandfather is not around to see some of this.

Yes, I can imagine. It’s so sad to see all of these beauties go!

My little five year old boy said "It is sad seeing those schools empty, but this music make it even sadder" Very well done.

My dad and aunt attended Harrison during the forties. They grew up across the street from Fairgrounds Park.

Shame on past and present leaders of this city for allowing the demise of these beautiful churches and schools. And so thankful for those who have and are restoring some of them.

I totally agree, there is so much of the history of this cty that has been lost to the wrecking ball or just urban decay. When I started this video series, I thought I would have enough places for maybe 3 or 4 videos, well I'm up to 11 now and easily there is enough for me to produce another 6 or 7 more videos (which I am working on). So sad to see it all just waste away like this. I have videoed 16 schools alone, mostly in north county, and there are 14 more that I haven''t gotten to yet that are closed and abandoned. Crazy!! Anyway, thanks for watching, more to come.

@@jimlwolfe-empty-midwest spent my childhood in Walnut Park, we walked, rode our bikes all over the place and I always loved and was amazed by the old brick buildings. My grandparents lived in the city as did many other relatives. So many wonderful memories. Thank you for your time and dedication in making and sharing your videos!

The city is not the blame for these churches falling down , the Catholic church has down sized over the years from low attendance and other churches have tried to keep them but couldn't for the same reasons the Catholic Church let them go. They are to expensive for the small membership to keep them up. I have a 137 year old house that my family is constantly working on to keep it up, and if the city is going to shell out money on old buildings, they should step up the help for people that are keeping buildings on the tax roll. Now they do have programs that help home owners, but it is an obstacle that make people not even try.

@@sthpac69 I understand the upkeep in 100+ year old homes. If you and I fail to keep our property up to code do we get a pass from the city agencies/entities? Apparently Catholic Church Real Estate and whoever else owns the churches and schools does.
