I have been using this system for three years. Recently, the claw slipped off the break pedal during setup and the actuator arm extended to its full length getting stuck. It started making loud clicking noises. I tried to figure out how to get the actuator arm to return to normal position, but It wouldn’t. I had to pull my Jeep without the Patriot II installed. Please tell me if there is an easier way to fix this issue without having to send it to Patriot for service.
I recently purchased a Blue Ox II braking system for use in a Fiat 500 towed vehicle. The unit required a special locking brake claw for use in a Fiat 500. This brake claw is almost impossible to install on the Fiat brake pedal (even the dealer struggled to install it) and when it is finally installed and the "locking" mechanism is applied it becomes unlocked - even in the "set-up" process. I have confirmed that it is the correct brake claw. Is the brake claw simply (1) an incorrectly designed brake claw, (2) incorrectly attached to the unit (3) or ?
I have one of these and it appears to be working fine. But here's the thing. No one, not the dealer I bought it from nor any UA-cam videos I've seen tell me how the technology actually works. I just got off the phone with a tech at Blue Ox and he couldn't really explain it either. What I'm told by Blue Ox is that pretty much everything is contained in the Patriot II unit itself. That somehow it electronically senses braking and to what degree and applies the brakes in the towed car accordingly. The "controller" in the coach is primarily an activity display but does allow you to make sensitivity adjustments and has an emergency release if the car comes loose for some reason. For me, it's simply not enough to know how to install and operate this thing. I want to understand the mechanics/technology.
There is an accelerometer inside the unit that senses the rate of slowing when you are braking in the coach. It initiates braking in the towed vehicle proportionally.
There was not a lot of discussion of the remote monitor, other than the rubber mounting pad. I was waiting for its connection to the CAN bus to receive brake codes, or some other connection of the system to the coach's brake lights.
I'm going to order one of these tomorrow for my Jeep Wrangler. My question is what makes it work I can't find any information on that. I know you have a controller in the cab of followed this video quite closely but what makes it activate? Nobody seems to have that video
I have a hard time getting this gadget to work!! Followed everything in it’s literature but once it’s hooked up to my motor home, I cannot feel that its working/breaking. Any good advice from experienced users will be greatly appreciated.
The in coach monitoring system should let you know when the brakes are being applied in the towed vehicle. You may not feel it in the coach significantly, but you also may need to increase the gain on the brake unit. I'd start with testing to make sure the brake is actuating in the towed vehicle and getting enough pressure to press the brake pedal. You can increase the gain on the brake from there or make adjustments if you need the brake to have a better surface to push off of. You don't want to have your RV dragging the car while braking. You simply want the auxiliary brake to reduce the total force that the RV brakes are dependent on stopping. This will create a safer overall towing setup, save your brake pads, reduce your stopping distance, and stop the towed vehicle in the case of a tow bar failure.
I'd guess most customers have no idea what a "live" v "hybrid" braking system is.

What do you do with a towing car to get connected with patriot 2

Good question. I was going to ask the same thing, then I saw you already asked.
Finally someone asking the really important question. I was also trying to understand how this unit knows when the brakes need to be applied.

Very thorough. Thanks.
How do you pair the remote monitor
How does it work with power brakes on tow car
Sorry I neglected to say that its hooked up in my towed vehicle. Thanks

Do you have to undo the negative battery cable on your car. How do you keep the Patriot 11 from draining your car battery?
Run a charge cable from the coach to the toad.
